1. Prélude
2. Allemande
3. Courante
4. Sarabande
5. Menuetto I/II
6. Gigue
I don't get why people are complaining about his interpretation. Anner Bylsma can do whatever the fuck he wants because he's a master. Bach also left very little information on exactly how to play the suites (and many other things). I don't think Bylsma's interpretations are romantic at all, they're very free and rubato indeed, but they are not dramatic and grandiose like the typical romantic manner. I think his interpretations are pretty baroque, I mean he specializes in baroque music. This interpretation of the 1st Suite, and the others on youtube from this performance, are very different from his 1979 recordings, but I think he's discovered a new, more mature and unique way to play the suites.
“Anner Bylsma can do whatever the fuck he wants because he’s a master”. This.
Wonderful. I saw Mr. Bylsma in concert and he autographed my CDs of his Bach suites.
All through life Anner Bylsma never stopped hearing Bach sing to him. Every recording, every performance - he never stopped listening to Bach’s own voice and making his instrument bring it to full life.
The best. Simply the best.
An essential and delightful interpretation the depth and vastness of feeling transmitted is hardly paralleled Thank you Master
I love the changes in tempo, I particularly like the slow tempo at the beginning even in comparison to his earlier recordings.
Exactly!
Love this performance so much. May he rest in peace.
bylsma is the only who can surpass bylsma... we are lucky to have different recordings from him! he is absolute.
Entre tantos intérpretes desta suíte No.1 Anner Bylsma expõe algo ainda desconhecido e maravilhoso. Há interiorização e amor profundo ao tema. Salve Anner!

In a deep thought, walking in the woods……meditating effects ❤
there is little information, but he studied it. His goal is to try to stay as close to the way bach would have wanted it
Gracias Maestro!!!
I really like this rendition!!!!
unique, personal, and elegant in its own right. Salute!
Superb!
this is great playing sir!
Great magistero.
The best!
This Is Amazing
I am an amateur horn player and I play Sarabande of this suite on a single B flat horn. It sounds mush better in a high register. I use more appoggiaturas, thrills are subtle, shorter and at the end of A I play pedal tonic in multiphones, basically 4/6 accord. I avidly watch cello performances of Bach where I learn a lot about accentuation and bowing, it helps with air and articulation on horn. Cello and French horn are two beasts, taking us to endless, daring and totally personal ventures, rewarding at each tone played.

Foda pra caralho!!!

Why the huge fluctuation on tempo, esp the prelude?? latter is too slow in beginning and then somehow speed up a lot at climax and then really slow. He is using a baroque cello, with what I believe is a late baroque bow but playing style sounds quite romantic, lots of rubato, and old school at times but still some quite nice moment
You have to imagine that there is a pedal 'D" sounding while he plays a "fantasia " over it. Fabulous!
@c na That's nonsense, you would have zero justifications for such tempo changes in larger works like a symphony. The prelude here is no different, radical tempo changes are simply not a part of Bach's language, in fact this would be radical even for most Romantic era pieces. When Bach's music is played with a steady tempo, the relationship between tension and release becomes clear. Rush and slow down drastically kills the inherent tension Bach is designing in the piece. IN fact Byslma did not even recognize he sped up when he was asked in an interview about the end of this prelude.
@paul w He recorded it much younger and he was doing the same thing
@@s.l5787 You seem clueless when it comes to baroque preludes. They would generally be played quasi improvisando, for which there is plenty of evidence in literature. This Prélude clearly is divided in three parts, which justifies the three tempi - it needn’t be „taken down“; such was the practice.
@@chrishimmelmann Bach wrote improvisatory preludes when he was young since that was the traditoon of the time, here the organization is extremeley methodical as well as virtually all of his preludes after 1720s. Please don't spread your ignorance
I'm no expert but I can play the suite. For me this interpretation was too erratic. Still enjoyed the listen ;)
