Denton Williams yeah because if a song that somebody writes offends somebody then fuck them, song-writers shouldn't have their artistry stifled because somebody gets their fragile feelings hurt
Roxane Hedge umm... what does that have to do with anything. she meant because of the voice he uses in his songs. lots of people dont know he speaks normal. also broken english is kinda hard to understand too
Interestingly, shaggy sand in Patois on the song but speaks impeccable English without a trace of a Jamaican accent. On the other hand, RikRok sang in English but ordinary speaks Patois with t a very typical Jamaican influence. I guess music is just like acting. You get into character and do your part flawlessly!
I wish all the songs had a disclaimer such as this to make sure that the youth isnt getting the wrong message like some of the recent songs we have now
If you were a real shaggy fan you would know how he sounds.. And majority of Jamaicans can speak proper English.. Jamaica was previously own by the British so they can speak proper english..
when he talks: Hello my name is Orville, nice to meet you When he raps: Blablaba Goobi loopy lay, shaggy lapy floppy grungs jlobleflex I don't understand that at all. when he talks hes American but then he turns Jamaican again...wish I could do that....
That's what's up. People think artists just decide to go one way, but the truth is, art changes direction as it gets created. The end product is either loved or hated. In this case, it became a international jump-off and I know, from my experience, that that double meaning played well with us "player' of the day. Tight track, and thanks TTS and JF and Shaggy for the hook up. I know that most of us true playaz from back in the day always wondered, "how he got it so right?". Now we know, it was just as simple (and complicated) as we were back then. I love that the track has taken on a life of its own and, like most good art, can be viewed/understood from each person's own perspective. Thanks to the artist, and the show, for that bit of knowledge.
Probably the only one who thought this but "It Wasn't Me" and "You're My Darling Angel" are the only songs I ever heard by Shaggy and I always thought Shaggy was the person singing that he got caught not the guy giving the advice. I feel dumb. Edit: I'm 19 btw
I love the fact not mentioned. Shaggy, tel them that the "shaggy voice" came from calling cadence. :) Too many people don't know where that voice came from. :D
Michele Gomes what's even more funny is telling a female "it wasn't me" actually works-but i don't lie anymore and keep it real nowdays with all the ladies it's not worth losing someone you care about over a "booty call"
I'm not surprised that "It Wasn't Me " was inspired by Eddie Murphy 's movie "48Hours". Does that mean that "Angel ", was inspired by "Coming To America ".
Love your song in my head it has a whole different story. Of the government screwing us all and how we keep on saying - it wasn't me.😂😂😂 As long as we keep on playing along we will have a enjoyable journey 😂
Shaggy stop twang.Guys this is the I'm trying to speak so that the average American can understand. I'm Jamaican...his yardy (Jamaican) voice is more similar to his stage voice.
watchingandwaiting Shaggy never does interviews speaking patois...even when he's in Ja. He may drop a few words/phrases in but he goes with English most of the time.
wrote a song about being a playa, strategically turned it around so ladies wouldn't think he was a playa.. well played. playa
Swedish House Mafia hahaha
i love how he changes his voice that easy
Fix your vocabulary
Fix your attitude.
@@redhawkrobin I will... I apologize
@@digital4987 talk that don't apologize
its kinda nice that shaggy was actually concerned about the lyrical content. I mean a lot of singers don't care if they offend somebody.
Denton Williams yeah because if a song that somebody writes offends somebody then fuck them, song-writers shouldn't have their artistry stifled because somebody gets their fragile feelings hurt
That's true
He should've said, "I didn't write it. Nope. Wasn't me."
it wasn't him
He sings like a voice actor!
Thank you for explaining how that song was created. It's one of my favorite Shaggy song and it was funny too.
I was expecting to not be able to understand a word he said...
Roxane Hedge umm... what does that have to do with anything. she meant because of the voice he uses in his songs. lots of people dont know he speaks normal. also broken english is kinda hard to understand too

I love how they put thought into making this song and somehow still be respect because of the ending. That's why it's such a fun song to listen to !
wow, who knew there were so many layers to the song
I wish all the songs had a disclaimer such as this to make sure that the youth isnt getting the wrong message like some of the recent songs we have now

I wonder what it sounded like if he recorded an album rapping with his normal voice and singing like @ 1:52
And now I must go play it.

You edited your comment just so you could add that your 19?nobody gives a fuck how old you are.
You're not the only one.
Very cool video :) learned more about my favorite song by him!
And yet everyone keeps forgetting that last bit at the end that basically tells people flat-out "don't actually do this, this is stupid and hurtful".
This is like how to get away with murder when you are a player.i love the song still listening to date
shaggy is a hustla. lol got u thinking he got an accent
Cyprus The Great he does have an accent. the american accent is very easy to copy bro, most Jamaicans can do it.
Nancy Drew i know. so? many people have dual citizenship
and that is how you make a hit song
Great set on the J. Fallon show.
impressive 👍🏽 glad that you've said last part was for winning ladies back, i wasn't know that
When he talks to other Jamaicans you would hardly understand a single word.
I live that man... that song was epic

Michele Gomes The official language of Jamaica is English. Google is your friend, sweetheart.
Machiavelli Im talking about his voice, fool.
Michele Gomes what's even more funny is telling a female "it wasn't me" actually works-but i don't lie anymore and keep it real nowdays with all the ladies it's not worth losing someone you care about over a "booty call"
YOU WROTE A BAD SONG!
"Wasn't me"
This played at my senior prom in 2005 lol

Basically the theme song of NPD.
This makes me like him more 😂
so hes faking the Jammy accent huh? Interesting.
I'm not surprised that "It Wasn't Me " was inspired by Eddie Murphy 's movie "48Hours". Does that mean that "Angel ", was inspired by "Coming To America ".
I KNEW IT!!!!!
It's funny, his accent is thicker when he sings rather than when he talks. Usual it's the other way around with music artists with accents.
lisalmf123 the american accent is very easy to copy, he's just talking like that on purpose
Very cool
I like Shaggy
I never comment on anything, but...YES
Love your song in my head it has a whole different story. Of the government screwing us all and how we keep on saying - it wasn't me.😂😂😂 As long as we keep on playing along we will have a enjoyable journey 😂

As if it came from Raw 😧
Shaggy stop twang.Guys this is the I'm trying to speak so that the average American can understand. I'm Jamaican...his yardy (Jamaican) voice is more similar to his stage voice.
Sounds nothing like him
Who else watched the music video after watching this?
He doesn't need ears to put on his sunglasses,
The transition to his deep jamaican voice wasn't really smooth.. 1:31
This video is awesome, but why is he in a closet with a mag lock lmao. Has an arrest/hostage video vibe lol
