I so love this song and am grateful to know the story behind it... I was blessed to spend a weekend in Kalaupapa and to meet some of the residents and talk story. It was one of my most memorable and beautiful experiences! 🙏🏼❤️
Whenever I hear a Jerry Santos or Olomana song .. really reminds me of being a kid, playing in the streets of homestead in Waimanalo 😢. It was a rough childhood and all I wanted was to leave bc I felt so trapped in struggle after struggle. I have long since moved away and now in my adult years - I find myself longing for my home and music like his makes it more so true.

Grew up with this song, my aunty & uncle lived there at kalaupapa of course they passed away but I did get to see them before......
Still so beautiful in 2021 as it was in 2008. So beautiful. Glad I now know the story of the birth of this mele.
