I don't know why Lexus sends this ultra luxury trim to every reviewer and then looks bad in value. There are well equipped trims for less than $100,000 and similar off-road capabilities.
Just a little over 100k I picked a 2023 GMC YUKON DENALI ULTIMATE XL. Let me tell you it was a Disasters decision I made. The engine seized at 6000 miles with only 6 months of ownership. This happened on the highway. And I almost got rear ended when it happened. It is now in the shop for a brand new engine replacement. I am now looking to get something more reliable. Bye GMC
1K - 100K does not matter. What matters is, what is your long term ownership plans? Lease the Mercedes. Repeat if you like it at the end of the lease. Or buy it and trade in at the end of the warranty and repeat if you like it. Where as, the Lexus, I think it is fair to say, you can do that plan as well, but if you want it as a 1 and done purchase that will last you 20+ years with minimal maintenance and or repairs, it is the smarter choice. Mercedes can be just as reliable, but the service fees are more frequent and more expensive to keep it in good shape. And yes, I speak from experience. Along with my folks and relatives and have done my online research homework. IF I were spending that kind of $, I would have the kind of $ to flip the Mercedes on a lease plan or ownership during warranties. And it is what I would pick.
What no one mentions is that this isn't even a true mercedes. It's built in Alabama, which means that its quality is nowhere near as good. In contrast, the lexus is still made in Japan. The German built mercedes are a lot better, but of course they wanted to be cheap and even chose to build some of their high end models in america. If you were spending that much for a mercedes, the least you'd expect is it to be built in Germany. Even some of their amg models are built in America
The Ultra Luxury package is always a ridiculously overpriced package so you just have to disregard that, no one gets that. I will take the Lexus everyday over the Benz. they are bulletproof.
Toyota/Lexus as been number 1 in reliability year after year for several years. In a huge part because they don't innovative much, unlike Mercedes. Toyota decided to change their ways a couple of years ago and they have had turbo problems and other issues with their Tundras and NX models. With that said, I bought a 2015 RX for my wife and it has been the best vehicle she has owned. Still, as you mention, Lexus doesn't come close to the quality of materials and attention to detail put into the vehicles. I have owned a 2010 Mercedes E350 with 230,000 miles and counting and they cannot compare. With all do respect, Lexus is a Toyota with an ok tuxedo on. From the materials used inside to the material used in the engine compartment, Merc wins. No car, other than BMW (and probably Audi), has double hood locks. I have never seen a Lexus with a hood that can open 90 degrees. Everyone knows Toyota brakes are terrible, especially when hot. That doesn't happen with a Merc. Tranmissions? Toyota transmissions, even in their IS 500, have been said to be a slow trans. Yes, they can last, but so can a Merc. P.S. No Lexus is in the top 3 of most driven miles. Merc is.
I personally think this is a sly way of Lexus trying to see what market is out there for very expensive cars. The days of "you can fix/repair Japanese cars for cheap versus fixing German cars" is gone. They now cost the same.
if Mercedes and bmw focused just a bit more improving their build quality/ longevity, they definitly would be top choices, but given the current financial climate, anything less then toyota quality is not really an option
Bmw is now 3rd in reliability just behind Toyota and Lexus according to many automotive industry analysts… I owned a 2021 x5 and it was pretty great … still sold it before 60k and kept the 10 year old Lexus lol 😅

Why don’t you compare apples to apples the base LX is only 3 to 4000 more than Mercedes and basically everything is the same same except for some creature comfort inside
So the LX600 starts off at 93k and the GLS isn't too far off from that amount. The top end Ultra luxury LX has captains chairs that in itself, tacks on a hefty price to its base model variant. The overall vehicles are comparable but given the difference in trim, you really should keep the price out of scope of this comparison.
The LX is such a pointless car. Out of all its competitors, it clearly looks the worse, handles the worse, even its updated interior looks thoroughly outdated compared to the GLS or even the Range Rover, has the least amount of power compared to all these cars. There's only so much that rEliAbIliTy will get you.

In 7 or 8 years, when you are approached with "Hey, would you be interested in selling that?" You won't be the guy or gal in the Mercedes. Call it how you see it, but that's the truth. Other than a lease and dump it's hard to make a case for the Mercedes value. I did not hear any discussion of build quality, I think at 100k that is relevant, perhaps not to a reviewer, but to a buyer.
So this is a MB sponsored video one may say given the horrible bias this guy has in favor of MB. There is nothing more distasteful than to hear the personal opinion against one side when it isn't called for. Or maybe there is something more distasteful, perhaps it is the entitlement taken here to bash one brand based on the personal views. Never watch this guy's videos for more than 1 min. not worth it.
That brilliant drivetrain in the Merc will leave you stranded by the side of the road. Ask me how I know...and confirmed by other GLS owners. That alone makes this comparison a slam dunk for the Lexus. YMMV.
I hate watching these guys when they have European cars on: they seem to lose all rationale. Remember the Land Rover(s). They were day 1 trash heaps, but these guys never admitted it.
Lexus all the way, it’s more reliable so it will last longer, can be used in anyway and more luxurious at the same time. lexus kills it on the interior luxury all the way and leather colors are perfect . for the mercedes it’s basic and looks the same like every other one, the value will depreciate almost down to nothing in 5 years and it’s not reliable at all they focus on “innovation” more than reliability!!
Call me weird, but imo, conversion vans are way under the radar and you get far more luxury for less. As Hoovie says, they are private jets for the road. Yeah, the outside won't impress your friends, but who cares?? I'm not out to impress people I don't like anyway. If full size conversions are too big for daily use, AWD minivans are an option. Yes, I sad the "m" word, but has anyone seen the Pacifica Pinnacle lately? The interior is nuts! Add the fact that you can turn the keys over to an upfitter for more luxury craziness and I'm sold.
If you don’t go off road Lincoln Navigator is bigger, more powerful, cheaper and less expensive to maintain. If you actually need off road capability and don’t use the 3rd row the LX.
Nathan, if you want the best third row and more usable cargo area, the Lexus TX is more comparable to the GLS. Granted its around 20K less expensive than the LX and GLS, the LX third row really lacks headroom and also your knees are in your chest. The TX fixes those issues and has a better third row than both of them.
Thanks for share 🙏🏼, I think that Lexus is better for its reliables engines and also in this case for the comfort size and safety size comparison with the Mercedes that are medium size and worts engines in comparison with Lexus.
