Ah perfect, a new video. I will make some food, get my robe, a 24 year old whisky and light a candle. Chill at 1am to watch this adventure for an hour. Just to relax before having a nice nap before having to get up early. The zen I need! So thank you for your videos. It makes a depression day end with cozy comfy '0 f given' relaxed state. I am rambling, because I'm tired. Let's sip, snack and watch.
Your humor is not lost on me!! I just love the intricate care that you put into your videos. Even better is your complete respect for nature and the land and fish and campsites that up care for. Then your choice of music is clearly well thought out. I am iced in tonight as I watch this- you provide great joy and comfort! Thank you!
That was a special spot with the wolf, truly magical. Reminded me of some of my own November trips that had surprisingly good conditions, such peace and tranquility at that time of year. That is the winter weight sleep pad right? Did you fix it further or did Amok replace it for you?
Your moose hunt demonstrates a principal I’ve found to be true throughout my 71 years: The harder I push to make something happen the less likely it is. Stop pushing, relax, and there it is! The scenery on this trip was great. I can’t believe you caught the eagle that shamelessly assaulted you with a pike. And don’t you think for a minute that was an accident. If you had been a predator, would you have captured the eagle or been distracted by the pike? Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for another memorable trip. I had a great time. Your films just keep getting better. Sincerely, Dave Purkerson.
The shots in day 5 were breathtaking, I actually had tears in my eyes, water and sky melting into one. Earth is both hell and heaven, and that moment really looked closest that I would Imagine heaven to be.

We just finished watching your latest video. It is a GREAT photographic journey and well narrated. The eagle dropping it's catch and the wolf sighting was quite a payoff. My son and I while snowshoeing in northern MN in 2006...sighted two wolves and we all stopped and sized up one another before they ran off into the woods. It was truly a fortunate moment and I recall saying how we might never experience that again...and we haven't. We always enjoy your videos as well as those of both you and Xander. So WELL DONE. Thanks for sharing.
That sequence at the start of day 4 is absolutely incredible. The music, the footage, the atmosphere it creates, it's all just overwhelmingly beautiful. Fantastic video as always!
Like many of your subscribers I savor these presentations. I literally save some special time when I can view them undisturbed in order to do them justice. You have a real gift. Thank you for sharing. I live in Maine and see an occasional moose and I have been chased by a bull once. I am puzzled why you don’t have millions of subscribers!

It's so stunning to see a wolf, especially that close, when you're not expecting it at all. I had it happen to me last year in a provincial park. The same words as yours came out of my mouth when I saw it. Was very cool!
Jon if you are soloing on a lake that large you should consider having some sort of spray skirt for your canoe. I was thinking if you flipped out there. I know you have to balance taking or not taking certain gear. You can also add ballast rock to help you track straighter and then dump it later.

I found this channel a few months ago and have been enthralled. Growing up in Florida with bass boats and motorized aluminum boats I seldom got the chance to properly slow down and enjoy the travel that comes with great fishing or an on the water camping trip. So being introduced to your relaxed style of solo tripping long distances and casting along the way with such a timeless classic mode of travel like the canoe, I felt embers of inspiration rekindle within me. I was told at a young age that "luck is the preparedness for an opportunity" and maybe that's starting to make some sense now, as I meticulously planned my first solo canoe trip I was missing one key piece.. the canoe. Up until yesterday that was my only limiting factor, a 1975 Old Town Chipewyan appeared just down the road for the oh so friendly price of $40. So now mere months after the grand film making and overall message of your videos struck something within me, I am going to be setting off on my own adventure through the Kissimmee chain of lakes. I know I'm not the only one who has a story like this but I'll just speak for myself when I say thank you, Jon.
The last few videos you've released are near perfection John. Sure everyone's been commenting about how much your editing has improved, and for good reason, but I want to point out the impact your music selection has had on the quality of your filmmaking. Especially the calming Satyajit Ray-esque cinematic music. I've been repeat viewing simply to experience those moments over and again. Just brilliant...
I used to hunt with a 12 Guage and slugs. Then my 300 Savage lever action. Then I started hunting with my MINOLTA XG 1 SLR 35mm and then NIKON Digital. At some point hunting lost its appeal. You know Jon there are quite a few bushcraft channels, but yours and LONEWOLF 902 are just so well done. I am not sure who is better...both you and Jeremy do so well. My wife and I enjoyed your background music with the video 📹 footage. Your back country trips are just so great to watch.
I truly admire that you can be so at peace alone for a week. We were hiking up a creek in the Yukon many years ago, came around a bend and there were 3 wolf cubs playing on the bank. Its the small brilliant memories that come back to me over 50 years of camping trips and hikes.
I understand Carol. Lot's of memories myself after 45 years of camping on the westside of the Cascade foothills. Still do it now and then. The old bones say no sometimes.
Jon wow, what a terrific vid. At one point in the middle portion, it seemed like there was one amazing scene after another even better one a dozen times! Thank you so much for taking us along.
That wolf was simply incredible!! Not too many folk can say that they had a wolf enter the campsite!!! Far more rare than a Moose any day not to mention the chances of Eagle dropping a pike bomb on you. Beautiful video, Jon.
Ive been blessed to be born, raised, and have children in an area heavily populated by moose and endless wilderness. This video really does capture the essence of moose territory and adventure.
Love getting a new video in the dead of winter from back when you still had open water and blue skies. A nice reminder that all this snow and cold outside is temporary. Cheers and thank you, Jon!
Thank you John for your wonderful and exciting video’s. I love solo canoeing in the BWCA Minnesota but I have never in Ontario. I did moose hunt in northern Ontario with no success, but it was beautiful. Keep up the great work, you are excellent!! Thanks again…Timothy Hughes 9:53
Several years ago on a once a year summer trip to Wyoming it was so exciting to see a Mother and baby moose drinking out of a puddle next to my camper as I watched from inside. They have to kneel down to drink because their legs are so long. Another day or two passed and again, from the safety of my little camper I saw a Bull with his sweetie passing by within a few feet. I was so shocked and amazed that I was even seeing what I saw I didn't think to document the event with a picture I guess because another camper had just stepped out for a walk with his dog seconds before. I will never forget those moments.
Nice adventure, our modern times David Thompson comes through again.. In Central Idaho a wolf walked right into my camp and looked us over then lickety split it was gone.. No kidding, within ten feet of me, sitting on a pack box having coffee. That was 2008. I had something of interest though, two horses two mules.. Thanks for sharing this awesome journey Jon..
It may be unscripted but the amount of wildlife you film feels like you there is one. I enjoy how these adventures turn into their own narrative becoming great stories. Thanks for another great video. MTO
Excellent late season trip Jon, not too much longer now until we can enjoy the open water season again. In the past 2 weeks I've accepted a new job and purchased my first home to relocate to Sudbury. Thrilled be be closer to nature and I have you and your videos to thank for the passion for canoeing your videos introduced me to. Looking forward to your next season of canoe tripping videos, take care for now.
Love your videos…the optics,narration,music..it all comes together in a magical way. Needless to say I’m living vicariously through your videos and several others like you and I’m sure you are acquainted with many of them. I’m 71 and thoroughly enjoy seeing places I’ll never visit or see on my own so thank you for sharing your videos and adventures.
Day 6, the paddle, the campsite and the view ... WOW! Just speechless at it's beauty. And then to see a Wolf during breakfast. I thought the fish drop was going to be my favorite moment (altough it was epic) Day 6 was perfect. I disagree with you about this trip not being thrilling. These kind of trips are what I'd die for, an Eagle sharing it's meal with you, catching the odd fish, breathtaking scenery, a Wolf encounter and the inner peace all of that brings .. to me, those are the most thrilling trips of all. Thank you for sharing this one.
Glad to see you post. Finally get to scratch that Lost Lakes itch! Was a bit confused about the lack of snow until you mentioned it was November. Not sure how you slip some of those jokes in without cracking up… cow moose pheromones indeed,
I must say that I search and seek out your channel with great anticipation!🦅 The content of this video is superb and I believe you’re close to acquiring a National Geographic contract. Love the humanity and humour you add… 😊. Keep up the fabulous content…🙌🏻🙌🏻
I found your channel only a week ago, and I've been plowing through your back catalogue ever since. I have to say, I'm really enjoying the videos. Thanks!
I would love to see how you choose to store your food from the bears. As a child I grew up back country camping but the adults always took care of taking the barrels away from camp and storing them up in the trees. So I would love it if you would teach us a little about the safety and process involved in using the barrels and where you select to tie it up away from the bears and such. Your videos really inspire me to get back into these types of trips as they were the highlights of my year during my adolescence! And I love your storytelling and humour !
Thanks a lot Hannah! 💚 I don't hang here in northern Ontario because hanging limbs are very hard (almost impossible) to find in the boreal forest and even the two-tree method is very difficult to pull off here. Thankfully bears are also very wild up here and rarely habituated to human presence so they generally wouldn't associate a human camping with a food source (a human camping is more likely to scare them off). There are no guarantees though and minimizing scents that would attract a bear in the first place is important. But in a busier park and/or where suitable horizonal branches exist where there are more hardwoods, it's definitely important to hang
Spotting wolves in the backcountry remains one of most memorable experiences. Just wish I had a better camera at the time. Another great video! So nice to get to watch a new canoe trip in the middle of winter!
What you choose to film and the pacing of your videos is near perfect. Just what I needed to see in the dead of winter. Love it! Thanks Jon great video.
I don't always comment on every new video you do, but they are always much appreciated. Especially the nighttime sky shots. As a younger man, I would walk away from the light of the campfire and just look at the stars. My friend and I always would ask each other, "Are we alone in this giant universe?". Sleep, and on to the next days adventure.
Time for new pad. I’ve lucked out several times bushwhacking in the Quetico and wolf encounters. How lucky you were with the camera to capture that! The eagle bombing you as well. The wolf encounter proves how often that must happen and we never notice it. Just a beautiful trip!
Yahoo! Finally, a great vicarious canoe trip to enjoy! I'm taking a break from summer trip planning to watch this trip now! Thank you John! This video arrived just in time to answer my exhaustion with winter and feed my anticipation of another canoeing season.
I laughed so hard when the raptor dropped his fish at you, and your surprise. In fact, I laughed twice, when you mentioned it at your summation of the trip. Thanks for another excellent journey, and for your strong but gentle spirit!
That eagle was pike bombing you, Incoming!! Such a beautiful place, I miss canoeing and camping.Really enjoyed the background music, matched the lake and skies so well.
Hi Jon, I've been watching your videos for about a year now, but this is the first time I have left a comment. I've been a bush pilot and guide in Alaska for many years. I quit hunting a long time ago, but I really love watching Dall sheep, grizzly bears, mountain goats, and moose in their natural habitat. When I see you drinking in natural beauty, I totally get it. Your videos are very relaxing and motivating. Keep up the good work, and I know it is work, but enjoyable (most of the time). 🙂
@@LostLakes Jon, When you have time, check out the video I posted of takeoffs and landings. These are the places I go hiking and they are all within about 20 minutes (by air) from Palmer, Alaska where I live.
As per usual this was, once again, a stunning video to behold. Your editing skills are second to none and the way you just let certain scenes speak for themselves is an underappreciated quality. Also can't help but think about you mentioning the rough week you'd had so just want to say that I hope you're doing well now and that you've been able to leave whatever it was that gave you stress behind.
Nice video Jon , You always manage to capture the beauty of where your are, pretty cool seeing the eagle drop his catch. such a spectacular capture of the sunrise through the fog. so awesome when one can catch a glimpse of a wolf i was lucky to see two ,, years back was awesome and as yourself it ran off. a very special moment. thanks for bringing us enjoyed the adventure
Awesome video John. Thank you so much for sharing . So glad the eagle missed but hysterical to watch. Your commentary is hilarious. As always your shots are incredible. So glad the wolf came to visit and how fitting that once you and Erin were together you caught your moose . So looking forward to your next journey. You are a true explorer. 😎
Jon! You honored your Natural Intuitions following the inner drives to reach for what you were truly put on this Earth to do. Thank you for being your True Self, and for having the generosity to share with US - truly reliant Earthlings. I grew up spending much time out in Nature, and it is where I feel my best. The "City Life" or working in offices, takes care of the bills. Most of my free relaxing time I spend with Lost Lakes, lately. Jupiter my cat is obsessed. hehe. Now, every time I cross the Colorado River, and all the creek bridges on the way in, I not only dream of how I would love to be on the water again, I am planning. Thank you for reminding US that care for this Great Outdoors, that it is still or could be, just a well planned journey away. If not, we continue to journey here to Lost Lakes, to see the most incredible views and wild life encounters, delish fixins, and rather amuziing adlib extra content. I have been rolling thru your videos - Congratulations on a Beautiful Wedding. Sending Best to you and Erin 🌎
I loved this so much! Little bits of magic in everything you capture. Wolf was kind of ethereal. Happy for you, Jon. (PS I cried (quiet) happy tears the first (and only) time I saw a bull moose < last year at Glacier National Park. He was very gracious about allowing me to admire him. Thanks for your awesome videos!
Just epic. The placid lake scenes were incredible. You've got an incredible eye for capturing such vivacious scenery. Bird wise, the two ducks at 8:06 are likely Scoters (according to the Cornell bird app). Taking the time to share those Ruffed Grouse cameos was glorious. What a lovely creature. THANK YOU. As exciting as it was to see the wolf and moose, I always wonder what you think about being THE solo human in these places, in a world of literally billions. The feeling must be awesome. Great video!
Jon... your film-making/editing just grows and grows and grows.. Thanks for sharing with all of us as you journey on in the Canadian wonderland, bro. So enjoyable. Magical.
When I saw your leaning tree water collection , I was reminded of being similarly positioned with an 8mm vid Sony observing mama and calf bottom feeding in a shallow Isle Royale bay. The calf tired and came to my shoreline on right side of my tree. Mama continued to feed a bit UNTIL she checked calf and observed me in tree with cam. She quickly charged to shore (yes heart pounding) and shored on the opposite side of my tree. Both paused and recognized their seperation and hopped up on the bank at the base of my tree….knocked noses and headed into the bush. Yup a good video!!! One of those “moments” similar to your dropped eagle fish. Thanks for the memory spark.
Jon, I love your goofy sense of humor almost as much as your quiet storytelling and appreciation for nature's glory. Thank you for doing what you do and sharing with us. 💜
Enjoyed watching you discover the wilderness and experience it with appreciation. Being able to check out a new area without having to rush and choosing to stay, even with a deflating mattress, seems like the perfect way to travel through a trip. It is a thrill to be able to observe this and thank you for sharing with us. You have a gift for showing us your adventures in a breathtaking and real way. Look forward to your videos each week 🙂
I stumbled upon your channel over the winter, and it's become a favorite. The strange site you stumbled upon with the barrel, box and the old stand is a bear bait sight. It's likely accessed via the water, which explains the flagging and rough trail.
I've been watching your videos for years and just wanted to say thank you for doing what you do. You do a magnificent job of sharing the quiet, majestic beauty that northern Ontario has to offer.
Lovin the Artlist tunes. That’s such a cool experience with that wolf encounter and the fact you got it on camera. Little camera chat, gun selection, and wildlife. Awesome way to wrap up the paddling season. Really enjoyable video to watch and glad you had a successful hunt. 🐺 🎥

Thanks so much Will!
Always a good day when you get free food from the sky.
Ive been blessed to be born, raised, and have children in an area heavily populated by moose and endless wilderness. This video really does capture the essence of moose territory and adventure.
Wow 😳😳😳 this is current one...❤❤❤love it...thank you for uploading new video...I really love to watch your beautiful videos...❤️from the 🇵🇭...
Just wonderful. Great end of my day to sit and watch this video. Beautifully filmed and edited. Loved the music too. Thank you!
Thanks so much!
Love getting a new video in the dead of winter from back when you still had open water and blue skies. A nice reminder that all this snow and cold outside is temporary. Cheers and thank you, Jon!
Almost there!
Thanks so much Timothy!!
Such beautiful scenery. Watching the sun go down as it throws its reflection on the lake. Beautiful, absolutely stunning
So great! I loved it. Thanks Jon and Jimmy. I needed some soft water tripping about now. Ready for spring. Great story!
Hahah thanks a lot Flackee!
Priceless memories!
It's so crazy how far you've come. Your videos were always enjoyable but your new ones are like movies. It's nuts.
Thanks so much Sam!!
Epic drone footage! A nice change in the beautiful wilderness! Thank you Jon!
Thanks a lot Daniel!
Amazing. Thank you for joining me!
It may be unscripted but the amount of wildlife you film feels like you there is one. I enjoy how these adventures turn into their own narrative becoming great stories. Thanks for another great video.
MTO
Nature spoils me :) Thanks a bunch MTO!
Jon, the joy in your eyes after you saw that wolf! Love it!
😍
Excellent late season trip Jon, not too much longer now until we can enjoy the open water season again. In the past 2 weeks I've accepted a new job and purchased my first home to relocate to Sudbury. Thrilled be be closer to nature and I have you and your videos to thank for the passion for canoeing your videos introduced me to. Looking forward to your next season of canoe tripping videos, take care for now.
That's awesome Josh, you're going to be a happy camper! Adventures at your doorstep. Thanks a lot man 💚
Love your videos…the optics,narration,music..it all comes together in a magical way. Needless to say I’m living vicariously through your videos and several others like you and I’m sure you are acquainted with many of them. I’m 71 and thoroughly enjoy seeing places I’ll never visit or see on my own so thank you for sharing your videos and adventures.
Thank you so much Rebecca :)
Thanks so much you guys! 💚
Gold. Keep being who you are and what you believe in .
It comes thru in every video .
You're becoming one of the best adventurers because of that !
Thanks a million Scott!!
Unbelievable moments seeing the fish dropping from the sky and the wolf passing through. John your videos are amazing. ❤
Thank you so much Sandra! 💚
Glad to see you post. Finally get to scratch that Lost Lakes itch! Was a bit confused about the lack of snow until you mentioned it was November. Not sure how you slip some of those jokes in without cracking up… cow moose pheromones indeed,
Hahah thanks Philip!
I must say that I search and seek out your channel with great anticipation!🦅 The content of this video is superb and I believe you’re close to acquiring a National Geographic contract. Love the humanity and humour you add… 😊. Keep up the fabulous content…🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thank you so much Cynthia! 💚
Lovely trip and well filmed loved the “shooting” tease. The wolf was amazing, what a piece of luck. Thanks for the excellent film of your adventure.
Thank you! :)
I found your channel only a week ago, and I've been plowing through your back catalogue ever since. I have to say, I'm really enjoying the videos. Thanks!
Much appreciated Vince!
So special. Thanks a lot Kevin!
What you choose to film and the pacing of your videos is near perfect. Just what I needed to see in the dead of winter. Love it! Thanks Jon great video.
Really appreciate that Bry!
Such beautiful scenery and solitude. Good for the spirit and soul. Lovely video.
Thanks Jason!
Fun to explore our wonderful planet but on those nights you realize we're not even scratching the surface of exploration. Much appreciated GB!
I would say it’s a successful‘hunting trip’, with the crazy eagle shot and then wolf , wow!!! Great watch Jon!!!
I think you're right :) Thanks so much Ed!!
Time for new pad. I’ve lucked out several times bushwhacking in the Quetico and wolf encounters. How lucky you were with the camera to capture that! The eagle bombing you as well. The wolf encounter proves how often that must happen and we never notice it. Just a beautiful trip!
I know, I always wonder how many animals must see me without my knowing. Thanks Kevin!
Yahoo! Finally, a great vicarious canoe trip to enjoy! I'm taking a break from summer trip planning to watch this trip now! Thank you John! This video arrived just in time to answer my exhaustion with winter and feed my anticipation of another canoeing season.
🤠
I laughed so hard when the raptor dropped his fish at you, and your surprise. In fact, I laughed twice, when you mentioned it at your summation of the trip. Thanks for another excellent journey, and for your strong but gentle spirit!
Hahah thanks as always Kit!
That eagle was pike bombing you, Incoming!! Such a beautiful place, I miss canoeing and camping.Really enjoyed the background music, matched the lake and skies so well.
Thank you!
Jon your videos are beautiful. You capture the moments so well. I love the peaceful moments. What a life.
Thank you so much!
Both of those encounters were amazing. What a beautiful trip.👍👍
Thanks Jason!
Greatly appreciate that Danny!
Truly appreciate that Roy! 💚💚
So awesome. Thank you as always Sue! 💚
Hahah thank you so much Lisa!
Hahah many thanks to you and Jupiter!
Oh wow that wolf was so amazing to see!!! What a fun and amazing trip you had. So jealous.
Much love
Thank you! 💚
Thanks so much Beth! Such a special moment, very worthy of happy tears
Thanks for saving one for Feb. Getting excited for open water again. First time I've heard of someone getting bombarded by a pike. Then two bulls wow.
Hahah thanks Henry, almost there!
This is the channel I will come to at 2 am on a friday when I come home while 🍃🍃
beautiful view just amazing good work keep it up
Thank you!
The morning of Day 5….amazing. Your camera work is so good and left a breathtaking few minutes of enjoying the scenery around you.
Much appreciated ej!
Thank you so much!! It is an amazing feeling and such a privilege
YES that was an awsome😄👍good times shug. Tommy✌️
I'm guessing this video autoplayed while you were watchin Shug :)
Jon... your film-making/editing just grows and grows and grows..
Thanks for sharing with all of us as you journey on in the Canadian wonderland, bro. So enjoyable. Magical.
Thank you so much Andy!
Always a thrill isn't it. Thanks Thomas!
I will say you're getting really good at this editing that's a great talent
Thanks a lot Rebecca!
Jon, I love your goofy sense of humor almost as much as your quiet storytelling and appreciation for nature's glory. Thank you for doing what you do and sharing with us. 💜
Thank you so much Sue! 💚💚
Always an amazing adventure watching you. Love the wildlife!!!
Thanks so much Patricia!!
Agreed, best to have time to smell the roses :) Thanks so much Kathy! 💚
I stumbled upon your channel over the winter, and it's become a favorite. The strange site you stumbled upon with the barrel, box and the old stand is a bear bait sight. It's likely accessed via the water, which explains the flagging and rough trail.
Makes perfect sense. Thanks a lot Paul!
I've been watching your videos for years and just wanted to say thank you for doing what you do. You do a magnificent job of sharing the quiet, majestic beauty that northern Ontario has to offer.
Truly appreciate that Eric!
Your video presentations are exemplary
Thanks a lot Terry!
Lovin the Artlist tunes. That’s such a cool experience with that wolf encounter and the fact you got it on camera. Little camera chat, gun selection, and wildlife. Awesome way to wrap up the paddling season. Really enjoyable video to watch and glad you had a successful hunt. 🐺 🎥
Thanks a bunch you guys! Got an Artlist license a couple a months ago...finally free of the confines of the youtube library lol
YAHHH buddy
