    I always liked what Noah Antwiler AKA The Spoony One pointed out in his review of the film: ''What were you expecting?'' Its a game about girls wearing bikinis with big jiggling boobs fighting each other with occasional breaks in between to play beach volleyball. Its plot was always just an excuse. And y'know what? This film absolutely succeeds at that. Its one of the more faithful videogame movies out there. If anything, its biggest flaw is that it takes itself a bit too seriously.

    Holly Valance the girl with towels was the prototype Margot Robbie, she was Australian actress who used to be in a Soap Opera that became popular in Britain like Margot Robbie did. She was said to be one of the hottest actresses of the late 1990s and people felt she had potential to be a an A-list Hollywood star. But she took the easy money because she was a sex symbol and big in the UK, she started doing the lad mags that were popular at the time in the late 1990s like Loaded and Maxim where up and coming young actresses would do nude photo shoots to boost their profile. She would always do naked photo shoots all the time because she probably the most in demand young actresses, but she started to be more known as the model who took her close off than a serious actress and basically only got cast in things where she takes her clothes off. It is shame because she was a decent actress outside of her looks. Margot Robbie clearly learned from her mistakes.

      @@nichescenes honestly, playing the games would only add more confusion to plot points in this film( like hayate and ayane being a couple). I'd say this film and the 2021 mk movie are middling in different ways. That movie does its best to avoid going in any one direction that could upset any group of people. The result being a pretty underwhelming story. This movie doesn't fully commit itself to being faithful or original with its ideas, so it stands as a fun but ultimately forgettable experience

    • @nichescenes
      @nichescenes Год назад

      @@fightingmedialounge519 Yeah. The movie wasn't exact, but I couldn't help but notice while listening to them, oh that sounds like ___ in my mind, and then they'd say the character's name, and I'm like lol they kinda tried...fighter movies are always hard as they have so many char from different locals and stories, unlike the games where it's told in several episodic-like plots. I think knowing the games lets you push away the idea that it's all trope garbage the movie made up but really just them trying to be close to the spoofs the game was playing on sincerely and not as a clutch. For reviewers, it seems like poor creativity and copying. It is technically, but it's also akin to calling out Street Fighter for having a world of fighters, it's not weird if you understand that was the hook at the time.

    • @nichescenes
      @nichescenes Год назад

      @@fightingmedialounge519 DOA at least has the benefit of coming out when you didn't expect much from these movies. MK original was campy fun and stays in people's minds as actually good or decent for what it's worth and the budget and time it was made. MKremake was after tons of good adaptations from cartoon material and with the self-serious way it plotted along the only good thing I remember was the intro first scene maybe Jack's because double toasted and a few one-liners...i mean when the highlight of your fight starts with that fight at the trailer park...we lost the thread. At least DOA was not taking itself seriously and yes it's forgettable and a lot of bad acting and too many cuts in the fights and by today's standards or then yeah it will piss off more prude or touchy about the taboo or risky glaring it does on people. Eh maybe I just have a soft spot for DOA as I think it gets crapped on as not a good fighter and the company messed it up by leaning too into sex appeal and is considered a joke even if the graphics were good for the time and the ideas solid like the counter system to stop combos and adding cool knockouts and tag moves and a simple pickup and play feel for newcomers along with smooth animations...mk is good but too stiff for me.

    The irony is the black Zack character being so goofy and racially offensive was kinda accurate to the game. In the game Zack was the clown of the game, doing dumb things in the game and was the weakest character. The Japanese game makers were accused of being racist because he was the only black character in the game and was made to be the clown character compared to the others. It is only when they realised that black people buy games and sales dropped, did they make the Zack a cooler, more slicker character in later versions of game, finally realising making the only black character in the game dumb and so offensively stereotypical, might not be helping sales of the game.

    The first time I heard of this movie was when Chris Stuckmann did a Hilariocity Review on it, talking about bad video game movies like this, House of the Dead and Doom, leading up to Assassin's Creed. And yeah the movie is bad, but it's one of those "so bad, but fun to watch" types of movies. I mean your 2 biggest stars are Jaime Pressley (Because she was on My Name is Earl at the time. And damn she was the OG Margot Robbie back then) and a pre Dark Knight Eric Roberts.

      What's funny is that Itagaki (the creator of DOA) hated Tekken. 😆😆😆
      I think DOA's fast fighting system is more fun and easy to learn, hard to master. Tekken is more of a game you have to sink more time into in order to even be somewhat decent, usually prior knowledge from previous games could get a person by in Tekken.

    I’m a woman and yes, this movie is very exploitive, but what did anyone really expect? Movies based off video games are generally very “what you see is what you get”, for better or worse, and this is no exception. The fact it’s also such a product of its time is also a factor. It simply is what it is and you might as well grab a snack and have a laugh.
