  • How to Repolish a Cabochon Garnet Gemstone - With wear lots of gemstones will get scratches or lose their shine. I will show you how to get rid of scratches in a garnet cabochon gemstone and bring back the shine. You don't need complex, expensive lapidary equipment, just some simple things like a nail and dop wax, a spare piece of leather, water, aluminum oxide powder and elbow grease.

    I love all of your jewelry work. I feel like you are such a great teacher. It seems like your bloodtype is A Bloodtype?? I say that because I am A and you seem to have an A body type, plus yeah I just 'hear' you so well! It is my dream to come take a class with you at some point. You seem like an allstar when it comes to jewelry smithing.

    Hello and thank you for the heads up on how to repolish, I have a Cabochon Garnet with inclusions, I'm also looking that maybe 800 ish is better for a high polish rather than going deeper and causing more problems than just a repolish, many many thanks "H"

      @@JewelryArts hiya, it did .......However! the uk seems to have a problem when it comes to supply, ive been asking around for a small amount to buff up my large Garnet ring, so far no one has any to offer...... Bummer! 🙄 I did originally try 1200 wet and dry, then found you, 😃with promises of Aluminium Oxide 800..... just to try and find the darn stuff over this side of the world..... 🤔may be one day all will become clear. many many thanks "H"

      @@citizen8650 I didn't realize this could be hard to get! I assume you have been in touch with lapidary supply companies? I wonder what they are using instead?

    Do you have a chart that indicates which compounds to use with which stones?

      I don't but there are only a few you use, so you can always google when in doubt. :)

    hi! i'm so happy to see this video!! i need to get a scratch out of the table of a garnet. i looked up the aluminum oxide and see grades between 40 and 200. what one do you suggest? thank you!

    • @JewelryArts
      @JewelryArts  3 года назад +2

      I am so glad this came at the right time! :) 40 is quite rough so I would definitely be looking at 200-400 to get rid of the scratch and maybe 800 ish for a high polish.

      @@JewelryArts thank you so much, i just ordered some! out of curiosity, did you use different grits for the garnet cab, and what does the timing look like from start to finish?

    • @JewelryArts
      @JewelryArts  3 года назад +2

      @@jobrien2991 I had rather deep scratches so I ended up using a 220 to get rid of the scratches and then an 800 for a high shine. :)
