Hello beauties! Welcome to Maple Monkey Homestead! We are at the tiny 12x12 for another episode and so glad you could take some time out of your day to see what's happening around the homestead!
I have been attacked! Predators are at the homestead and have taken a toll on my chickens. Thats the thing with homesteading, your going to have all kinds of things that arise and you have to just take it in stride, learn from your mistakes and try to better for next time.
Ive been lucky with the predators at the homestead so far so it was only a matter of time before one stuck around to try and get some chickens and unfortunately, they were successful.
I started with 8 chickens at the homestead, lost one last episode when I left the door open and in this episode we lost some more as well, I'm not sure if i'll order more or if I will see if the predators are still hanging around the homestead.

Just hoping I can get them all done before the winter starts to hit, stay tuned to see if I can get it done and make it happen!

It's a epic cabin. What are you going to clad the outside in?
Try making a snare for them, can you or a dog eat a racoon? Or is the fur worth anything, convert it back into replacement chicken.
Plan C: 3D print chicken combat armor.
Extra chickens are always good for when some go off laying.

Might pay to keep a bit closer tabs on your plastic waste. It'll get lost in growth and soil. Microplastics, leaching, all not good stuff. It'll end up in plants grown in that soil.
There was a study that people that drank water from plastic water bottles have far higher levels of microplastics in their system. Luckily water is safe here as long as it's not below farms or tourists. With higher temps some areas are starting to grow toxic algae.

Yea damn raccoons! I like the idea of the chicken Armour, they'd look pretty sick then!
Thinking about vinyl siding or doing a board and batton for the exterior cladding.
I want to try raccoon, I know it's edible plus then I'd get a hat out of it too. They haven't been back after they received a few pellets on their hindside.

Yea it was a downer but completely understandable, just gotta learn and keep going :)
Sorry, but you know this will happen and you should be responsible enough to make sure it didn’t happen. To top it off you had to tell how you had to get your hatchet to finish them off. Will not be. watching again!
