Thanks so much for watching our FIRST Review of the 2023 Honda HR-V! As always, stay tuned to the channel for our SECOND review with full information, driving impressions, and all the detailed specs and figures coming 6/21 at 9AM EST! We appreciate all the support :)
The lighting makes this look much more premium than the price/spec suggests. Most important: it looks like Honda are trying to make their cars better. Kudos!
We just bought the 2023 HR-V sport with all the trim and we love it, roomy seats are very comfy and drives/rides very smooth. We are getting 35 miles to a Gallon HWY out of the Gate and should get better with break-in. All in all great vehicle and ours is an AWD and not really a power issue.
I think it's exterior and interior design are best in class. But it's lacking in power, fuel economy and tech vs the competitors. Value proposition is poor with this HRV in terms of features.
Is the color Urban Gray Pearl? I’m on Honda’s website and that’s what it is stating but it looks more like the Optic Gray that’s on the 2022 Passport Trailsport.
Hr-V has enormous modding potential. Just look at all that space in the engine bay! I see turbos, cold air intakes, +exhaust mods making this a sleek little sleeper, once your warranty expires.
If you can modify a 2.0L Civic Sport, you probably could do most of it on the HR-V Sport. You can start with a K Tuner or Pedal Commander, both for $300, but you can install and remove the later easily and use it without affecting the warranty, since it does not alter the CPU programming, just the throttle response. If the added body roll from the higher ride height is not to your liking, you can get the moderate stiffer and lower coil springs like the Eibach Sport Kit, which may be the same as for the Civic. Of course exhaust mods after the cat. And whatever other performance mods. Maybe a cold air intake, but I would probably just get a K&N replacement for the stock air filter element. I may mod the exhaust after I get all the other things I want. A front strut tower brace would be nice. I'm not sure if the Civic one would bolt bolt in, if the under hood dimensions are the same. The Sport has privacy glass tint, so I don't need to do the back windows, but I may get legal tint for the front door windows. I already know what factory accessories and aftermarket items I can add. Not intending to do radical mods other than the exhaust and Pedal Commander and maybe the Coil Springs.
Good luck finding a Sport trim anywhere under 30k. Went to four dealers near me and all were 31k. No budge what so ever. Also none of the dealers had the Sport trim in stock, obviously the most popular trim.
If the price around my area was that price I’d buy one tomorrow but I’m not paying almost 5 grand over so I’ll just fix up my used car rav4 v6 and get another 5 years
Definitely waiting to see official driving reviews. There were a couple of folks who recorded their drives of dealer demonstration units and the 2.0/CVT was quite a bit noisier than the 1.5/CVT in my Accord, but that may have been just a bad review. The sound was very much like my 2.0/CVT I had in the Civic in 2016. This and the availability at MSRP are my two reservations towards updating from my 2019 Accord LX.
Great review video. This will replace my planned next car that was a 2022 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback, because it suits me better for what I want, need, and fit my lifestyle better. I believe the Sport is the best out of the available trim levels for equipment, looks, performance and price in FWD in this Urban Grey Metallic. I am pretty much satisfied with how it is equipped, and what I would expect similar to the Civic Sport Hatchback. I liked the previous HR-V Sport, but wish it had this engine, and now it does, in a much improved package. But the Civic Sport Hatchback was much better, until I saw this. Btw, now roof rails like the previous HR-V, but the new one has all the same roof mounted racks and accessories that attached to the roof, clamped onto the roof above the side windows. This is a demo, some orher videos have the HR-V Sport with all black emblems. Like the Civic, they are available accessories with the Honda H Mark and HR-V emblems in one kit, and the black Sport emblem sold separately. They have an HPD package, and other cosmetic and protective add ons that are also sold separately, with front, rear and side add ons that would be best suited for the AWD and similar to typical Off Road accessories exterior pieces. The Build Configuration feature on Honda's automotive website shows all the typical accessories and specialty items available via Honda. Many commenters on other vehicles stated they like the looks and drivetrain of the Hybrid HR-V available outside of the North American market. I prefer this reliable N/A 2.0L engine and this model over the other one. This is exactly what the HR-V buyer would want. The power is sufficient, but Honda may offer a Hybrid and Sport Touring Option with the turbo engine later. Aftermarket performance company, K Tuner mod for this engine for about $300 that results in non Si 1.5L turbo power levels. A popular automotive reviewer on RUclips stated that it seems that these seats on the Sport are more confortable than those on leather seats on the EX-L trim. I like the no sunroof and the more reliable manual adjust seats, steering wheel, and the turn signal lights on the exterior rear view mirrors, but my favorite feature is NO Auto Start/Stop! I can upgrade the stereo with aftermarket stock replacement speakers and amplifiers of choice, etc. I like the orange stitching accents and black trim on the steering, and such. The center console design is innovative, and I wish it had the Magic Seats, but know there was good reasons not to carry it over in this redesign. Also, the EX-L has a few more Honda Sense safety features. I was surprised that they downsized the tire width from the previous HR-V from 235 mm to 225 mm, bit the engineers must have a reason for it, probably for better maneuverability. I still like the Civic Sport Hatchback, but I believe I would like the higher seat position and more visibility in the HR-V Sport, and added cargo utility to carry my equipment also to take things to/from my storage units. I know Honda put a lot of effort into this new HR-V, as well as the coming new CR-V and Pilot. Overall, I think this HR-V is a winner in quality, comfort, and reliability.
Love this review. ! Drew -- Really got me excited ! ---- It’s awesome and hits all the spots that I was needing to know. ---I’m getting mine soon. 😬😋 - one question -// at around 7:50- u spoke of “ torque distribution “ ---Could u please just tell me a little more about that? U guys are so thorough, - helped me out so much, and I really am so grateful for your review.-- it helped me with my final decision making 👍🏼 Just something that my previous vehicle had,,, that I didn’t realize this sport* model does not have but learned after having it for a few days now - (very minor and are not dealbreaker) - but may help some of your viewers, like: *a button to sync to open your garage door -Last-- even without having your phone plugged in- the Bluetooth sync works great with stuff like linking your 📞 phone for calls and playing music (iTunes) one last question maybe u guys can help me with regarding the Apple CarPlay - Once plugged in - it shows the HondaLink icon - but when I push it- it doesn’t do anything. - I checked on my iPhone - followed as it asked- the instructions to register it with the vin# and it’s all good on the phone - but once plugged in- touching the icon on the screen does absolutely nothing. - apologies for asking such a trivial question- but I just wondered if you guys may have been asked this before, or encountered it yourselves.(?) -- thanks again for your time 😉
My wife and I were hoping the US version would look like the European model. The EU model is amazing and it is also Hybrid. I hope Honda will get closer to that design in the future.
Why didn't Honda offer a Hybrid HR-V? This is competing with a Corolla Cross, but that one offers a Hybrid trim with better performance. Feels like a missed opportunity in my opinion
I went to see both 3 days ago. Sportage is way roomier and nice looking. This is ugly from the front. It's not roomy (although pretty decent if you are not planning to put 3 people in second row and not more than 2 medium size luggage in the truck). Other than that, I liked the interior. But the Sportage is nicer definitely.
I’m gonna respectfully disagree with the previous review. I was the same - on the fence between sportage and the HRV sport. I honestly think it depends on where u live and what the mark up price is. - I like that the 2023 has so much standard and only 3 options Whereas the Kia Sportage offers so many add- ons that jack up the price after u get all that you want. That being said - I feel like it depends where you live and if there is a $$$ price bump up or not - cause in the tri-state area -- there is still such a shortage and price bump on everything , which is so messed up cause it turns into a factor on what u want / vs/ what you can afford - Especially when they are kinda comparable in original price. - 2023 HRV- gotten many compliments on the front grill (sport version) and it’s plenty roomy inside) Not taking anything away from the Sportage- as it’s also a great lookin vehicle.
The current CR-V has 32 more horsepower and torque plus better fuel mileage. Standard rear air vents. For the price of the EXL hrv I can get a ex CR-V.
This was a much needed improvement to the HR-V considering it hasn't been fully redesigned since it first came out in 2015. Sure, it may not be the most innovative crossover in terms of technology but the Civic-inspired design makes it a much more appealing choice. I am disappointed that it doesn't have leather inserts like in the Civic. Not a big deal but for the cost it should be standard. I do like the clean, sleek design both inside and out with the premium headlights/taillights for such a low price. This will be a great seller but really, what isn't a good seller nowadays? Everything's getting snapped up thanks to the chip shortage. You go to any Honda dealership and there is absolutely nothing there except for a handful of used cars. My dealership hardly has anything new, just a couple of Ridgelines and one Pilot. That's it. No CR-Vs, HR-Vs, Civics, Accords, Insights, Odysseys, or Passports.
The dealership that I purchased & service maintenance shop. Has a very limited supply of vehicle's to choose from know color choices if you have a specific model in mind
Hankook tires at 2:18 :( . Honda used to be known for putting put Michelin (or other top brand) tires on their cars (which if you purchased through a tire store would be an extra $200-400 a set). I guess they are making the customer buy an Acura to get premium brand tires from the factory.
Given that the new 2023 HR-V is 9.4 inches longer than the 2022 model, it's no longer in the "sub-compact SUV" class. (like the CX-30, Kia Seltos, Corolla Cross etc). So...it's the same length as the Mazda CX-5...in what class does the HR-V compete? If you were to do a comparison test, what models would you match it against?? Hmmm...
The 7inch screen is too small for a 2023 model. The 9 inch should come standard or have an option to upgrade to a 9 inch on lower trims at the very least. No wireless apple carplay/Android either on 7 inch. Huge turn off. Idk what they were thinking with that... They should have just made a tech package option. Also there seriously needs to be a hybrid model.
Took it for test-drive today, so, I'm was not impressed. Not enough acceleration for me (but it's ok for a quiet retiree ride), a lot of motor noise from high RPM because of CVT (there is some soundproofing under the hood), rather unpleasant vibration throughout the car when you stand at a traffic light - in my opinion this is unacceptable. The car made in Mexico, don't know about quality and reliability, also the load on the engine and transmission due to more weight and AWD will increase compared to the Civic... The dealership in Colorado asked for $31.115 for Sport Trim with AWD (they add $1654 to price) which is a lot for car like this I guess. So, fair price in my mind for this Car should be no more than $25-28 at the exit with all taxes. There was no desire to buy (especially for this price).
Corolla Cross gas and hybrid models both beat this 2023 HR-V in terms of horsepower and fuel economy. Plus as you stated, all Corolla Cross trims come with rear air vents and rear center arm rest with cupholders.
So here's my dilemma I run a private chauffeur service full-time. Usually in a Benz or Tesla. I put about $30 a day in the Benz or have to charge maybe twice at supercharger. Im looking at the ioniq 5 but I feel since it's less range I'll be charging even more. Time is 💰. I want to excite my clients with the EVs but sitting at chargers is like damnnnnn. So idk what to do. Stay electric or keep gassin up...? Help, thanks!
There is lots of cost cutting going on in the HRV Sport. That would not have bothered me so much if Honda had also offered a 6-speed manual Transmisson.
i just like reliable cars lol honda is my choice im 39 trust me i will get another car thats faster one day lol speed scares me lol i had a sport 2016 fast

The lighting makes this look much more premium than the price/spec suggests.
Most important: it looks like Honda are trying to make their cars better. Kudos!
Back in the 80's/90's you could get Honda Civic SI's for $13.000 plus tax. That's why I bought so many of them!
Boys…y’all hit 300k! Fantastic!! Congrats!!
Thank you!!
We just bought the 2023 HR-V sport with all the trim and we love it, roomy seats are very comfy and drives/rides very smooth.

@Jack Hoff Sad and true
@Jack Hoff paid 27,000 for mine, we Love it.
@Jack Hoff no roof option --in any* model but the EXL. that’s the only one with a moonroof
@Jack Hoff I did a ton of homework and test drove the sport and EXL before my final decision. Plese let me know if you have any questions
2023 Honda HR-V Sport huge improvement over previous generation ! Slainte' ! Cheers !
Big volume mover. First gen CR-V owner here but the new HR-V definitely carries its spirit. Even based off the Civic this gen
Wish the tech was a bit better though
I think it's exterior and interior design are best in class. But it's lacking in power, fuel economy and tech vs the competitors. Value proposition is poor with this HRV in terms of features.
But it's best in class in terms of interior space. And passenger room for it's size
Is the color Urban Gray Pearl? I’m on Honda’s website and that’s what it is stating but it looks more like the Optic Gray that’s on the 2022 Passport Trailsport.
That's the one 👍 Urban

Solid comment!
The sense that Honda are trying harder is the best part.
Please somebody can explain how put the emergency lights like blinking please.
These tail lights are much better looking than the civic’s…. I’m jealous
Just spent 30k after taxes and everything out the door in a base lx model, definitely prefer the sport but couldn't find it in white
Love this review. !

- one question -//
at around 7:50- u spoke of “ torque distribution “
---Could u please just tell me a little more about that? I’d really appreciate it. Thanks 😉
Thank you! That gauge just shows which wheels power is being sent to. In the HR-V the front wheels will be the default because that helps fuel economy
@@CarConfections thanks so much
U guys are so thorough, - helped me out so much, and I really am so grateful for your review.-- it helped me with my final decision making 👍🏼
Just something that my previous vehicle had,,, that I didn’t realize this sport* model does not have but learned after having it for a few days now - (very minor and are not dealbreaker) - but may help some of your viewers, like:
*a button to sync to open your garage door
-Last-- even without having your phone plugged in- the Bluetooth sync works great with stuff like linking your 📞 phone for calls and playing music (iTunes)
one last question maybe u guys can help me with regarding the Apple CarPlay -
Once plugged in - it shows the HondaLink icon - but when I push it- it doesn’t do anything.
- I checked on my iPhone - followed as it asked- the instructions to register it with the vin# and it’s all good on the phone - but once plugged in- touching the icon on the screen does absolutely nothing.
- apologies for asking such a trivial question- but I just wondered if you guys may have been asked this before, or encountered it yourselves.(?)

My wife and I were hoping the US version would look like the European model. The EU model is amazing and it is also Hybrid. I hope Honda will get closer to that design in the future.
I like the car but in this day and age it really needs a hybrid and plug in hybrid option..especially with gas prices what they are now 🙄😁
Disappointed that the rear window wiper arm is not hidden on the top. This feature is a no brainer for me.
I have a 23 hrv spot how do I engage sport driving mode?
Every trim of this car is literally impossible to get rn bc of the chip shortage 😩
Amazing video!😸
Hard to give up my fit that is averaging 38.5 mpg for 10 mpg less! I'm still impressed with the new design so still wrestling with my desires!
I wish Honda offered tech packages instead of pushing you to the highest trim with leather seats.
Why didn't Honda offer a Hybrid HR-V? This is competing with a Corolla Cross, but that one offers a Hybrid trim with better performance. Feels like a missed opportunity in my opinion
Heck even the Corolla Cross gas model has better performance and fuel economy than this 2023 HR-V.
Love Honda, i drive an Accord but not having wireless charging available in the sport version is just silly. I don't understand these decisions...
Awesome video
Thank You Almighty God for blessing me and showing me that I will buy one for myself
I have a 2020 Sport and this is better in every way. The new Civic like interior looks fantastic.
The problem is it goes 0 to 60 in 5 minutes. No power! (Gutless)
This sport trim, has remote start correct?
Yes, and smart entry as well
@@CarConfections cool!
They need an ex-l sport trim.
Awesome 1st Review For The All New Redesigned 2023 Honda HR-V Sport Trim Level. What's The Exact Difference Between The LX And The Sport Trim Level?
The new HRV has the AWD badging similar to the first gen CRV. That’s why it’s in the rear window.
Been looking at the sportage, after seeing this review I’m leaning more towards getting the sportage lol
I went to see both 3 days ago. Sportage is way roomier and nice looking. This is ugly from the front. The current CR-V has 32 more horsepower and torque plus better fuel mileage. Standard rear air vents. For the price of the EXL hrv I can get a ex CR-V.
Maybe for now if you can find one. With the redesign of the CRV coming you can bet it is larger and more expensive.
And for Brazil this is a medium
SUV, and this model is called ZR-V we got other desing for HR-V

Needs a trim with 1.5T engine
The 2023 Honda HR- V looks alright,
25k, but try and find a dealer to start there right now.
Hmmm...
FIRSTTTTTTT I LOVE THIS CARRRRR
The 7inch screen is too small for a 2023 model. The 9 inch should come standard or have an option to upgrade to a 9 inch on lower trims at the very least. No wireless apple carplay/Android either on 7 inch. Huge turn off. Idk what they were thinking with that... They should have just made a tech package option. Also there seriously needs to be a hybrid model.
Corolla Cross gets 8 inch screen with wireless carplay/android auto even in base trim.
Honda needs to do what the Koreans do. 8 inch displays with a 10.25 in upgraded display. 7 and 9 inch displays are a weird and cheap choice.
What paint color is this?
Urban Gray
The Toyota cross hybrid is a better buy in my opinion. More powerful engine and made in the USA.
The tail lights of the acura mdx now in hondas expect the pilot to be look a like!! LoL
What paint color is this? You just keep saying “this paint color” but did I miss where you actually said it?
It's called Urban Gray
Thanks! Does it have as much of a light blue undertone as it looks in the video? Sorry. I’m trying to decide between Nordic Forest and Urban Grey.
Gloss black wheels are going to be SO out of vogue next year. I don't understand the fascination with them.
Although this is a pretty car, I think the Corolla cross outdoes this generation. Especially with rear vents and the upcoming hybrid.
Corolla Cross gas and hybrid models both beat this 2023 HR-V in terms of horsepower and fuel economy. Plus as you stated, all Corolla Cross trims come with rear air vents and rear center arm rest with cupholders.
@@braetonwilson4296 exactly. This car is the epitome of the saying, “looks can be deceiving”.

It kinda looks like the small version of mdx
There is lots of cost cutting going on in the HRV Sport. That would not have bothered me so much if Honda had also offered a 6-speed manual Transmisson.
i just like reliable cars lol honda is my choice im 39 trust me i will get another car thats faster one day lol speed scares me lol i had a sport 2016 fast
Honda is milking that sonic Gray color on everything huh.
Beaten easily by Crosstrek in fuel economy, performance, and utility.
This vehicle is far more grown-up looking than a Crosstrek, inside and out.
The crv is way better. The trunk looks non existent. I mean you’d almost be better off with a civic hatchback
I like Honda but this design looks awful especially the front grilll...Europe gets a much nicer version!
I would still choose the corolla cross hybrid.
Good for you.
I'll just stick with my 2021 hrv . in my opinion. looks soooo much better.
Keep telling yourself that
people are buying this instead of civic because honda is hardly making any civics. Heck, honda is hardly making any cars.
Why didn't Car Confections test drive the new Sport HRV? B-o-o-o-o H-i-i-s-s-s-s- and more......
