    Not a bad looking little car. Although it sounds like an extra 20 HP and another inch of ground clearance would benefit the car greatly.

    A 180-200 HP hybrid powertrain would go really far. They'd have a best seller overnight. The only reason I can imagine why they haven't given it more power is they're afraid of cannibalizing CRV sales.

    I'd still be hard pressed to trade my cx30 for anything else in this class. Much more power, even with the non-turbo. Better interior, and no cvt. The price of this one gets you pretty close to a turbo which would run bus lengths on this while still getting similar mileage.

    The Fit is the Jazz in Britain. We ordered the Crosstar version, which has the much needed, by us, raised ride height. The following day the dealer told us our order was cancelled and it would now be an eighteen month wait unless we would accept the standard Jazz. No. So we tested the European version of the HRV (no relation to the US version) , and loved it. Not as powerful as the American car, but still a very enjoyable drive. We ordered one, and still a six month wait. The European versions of both these cars have Hybrid engines, identical except for slightly enhanced performance for the bigger HRV. No relation to any engines available in the US as European regulations are different and no pure petrol or diesel cars are allowed to be sold new after 2035. The HRV was a lovely drive - but not really comparable to the American car.

    Drove one and LOVED it, BUT unable to get one within a reasonable amount of time (waiting two months and still couldn't even get one on order), so I went with a new 2022 CRV. More power I guess, at least. Looked at Corolla Cross as well, no demo to test drive, I was just able to sit inside an already sold one, and there was very little space for back seat passengers, and I don't like the interior design. I test drove a Subaru Crosstrek as well, but ultimately liked the driving and comfort of the CRV better, the Cross Trek Limited I drove felt every bump imaginable, and the interior seems very dated.

    Toyota econocars for efficiency. Honda or Mazda for sportiness. Subaru for leaving pavement. Nissan for low entry price.
    My 2016 Crosstrek still has better clearance, 40+MPG with cruise @55-65MPH, sturdy roofrails, 1500lb towing capacity, surprisingly-high receiver hitch, and ever-growing aftermarket support.
    For a Crosstrek, I can find skids, rockers, a rear locker, siped AT/MT tires, winch mounts, a turbo, exhaust, adjustable coilovers, adustable anti-swaybars, tire swings, etc.
    For getting around in terrible conditions, living an active life, the other econocars may NEVER catch Subaru, and the serious 4WDs are ridiculously expensive to buy/own now. The TJ Wrangler debuted with an MSRP under $10K USD, and gas was under $1/gal then. A broke college student could afford a TJ by waiting tables and having a few roomies. A base JL is now $30K, and gas is over $5.50/gal. College? You'll never be able to afford a habitable house on your own. $100K/yr income is still unobtainable for the masses, unless you work 80hrs/wk. Then you have no time for enjoying life.

    • @bwmclaurin
      @bwmclaurin 2 года назад

      I get what your saying, but after you do all those modifications to the Crosstrek, you could afford a decent used wrangler and actually go off-road or trow some AT tires on a used wrx and actually go off-road the same as the Crosstrek (but fast) and still pass someone on the road after all the mods.. 👀🤷‍♂️

    • @RKmndo
      @RKmndo 2 года назад

      @@bwmclaurin Used Crosstreks tend to be WAY cheaper than decent used Wranglers, and the MPG difference from most Wranglers is about double or more.
      I have a 50-mile commute each way. A $10K-$15K Crosstrek is fine for exploring off-road. I'm not competitively rockcrawling or rallying, so it's pretty affordable to get just skids, boards, and a multi-mount winch. A rear locker is only $400-$450.

  • @andrewsphone84
    @andrewsphone84 2 года назад +6

    My partner has a 2016 HR-V and other than AWD this has changed everything that made her buy an HR-V over any competition. The only contender at the time was a CX-3 which she though had a better driving experience and she went HR-V anyway because it was smaller and had the amazing cargo space for carting trees and bags of mulch and soil. The flip up seats made for a tall cargo space that no one else had. We need AWD for our driveway in the winter but she wanted a very small car, it was perfect. This new one looks like Honda photo copied a ford escape and changed just enough to not legally infringe on their design right down to the front grille. I actually thought it was an escape until I read the title and looked a bit closer. I know they are catering to the market but they already have the CR-V and Passport that are in the small AWD space, they really should have kept this as a compact.

      Hahaha! Omg. Yes!
      I hate what Ford did to the Escape after 2012. Going from a boxy, off road suv into a bubbly, car-looking hatchback. :(

    • @DRayL_

      For the Crosstrek, you could get the 2.5 and still get pretty much the same MPG. And IMO, it looks better. Sad to say this because I've been a Honda person for many years. When it comes time to buy, if I had to choose between both of these, I'd go Subaru. Having said that, I'm sure others would have a differing opinion. Best to drive both and decide for yourself as such things are quite subjective.

    • @bettysmith4527
      @bettysmith4527 Год назад

      I test drove both, and HANDS DOWN the 2023 HRV was MUCH nicer, with a better ride and handling, and a MUCH nicer interior for less money. I did have a hard time getting an HRV, so ultimately I ended up taking home a 2022 Honda CRV yesterday, as I felt that too was much more comfortable, with better everything when compared to the Crosstrek. You have to make your own decision after you test drive both though, everyone has a different preference.

  • @DRayL_

    I might have considered one of these if the EX-L came with the 1.5T. The engine in this vehicle is quite anemic. I currently have a 2014 Civic EX-L, and this new HR-V would be slower. It might have more horsepower, but in this vehicle, it does nothing but have less 0-60 times and fairly poor MPG.

    As mentioned before, for the “Sport” model, it should have the turbo engine from the sport hatch. Maybe an option for the EX model. Until then, I’m on hold from ordering one.

    Let me explain, I have a V-6 4Runner 4x4 and a 4-cylinder Matrix AWD. Since the Matrix is only a 4-cylinder, the bottom end is where most of the power and higher-revving RPMs are. So it always seems as if the first two gears are exhausted way before they shift. And as you can hear from this Honda that is a common problem with 4-cylinder heavy AWD cars.

    Honda made a mistake in 2015 when they stopped making the C-RV flat towable. And the H-RV is no different. I used to see all the RV crowd flat towing Honda's, and now its not an option. They were all forced to switch to Jeeps and Mini's.

    Why would you get this over the crv? since it's larger than the last generation of hrv and gets worse gas mileage with no magic seats.

    hmm I think this is a completely different car, not comparable to the old one. from the price point and size, this looks like, it is sitting between hrv and crv, the new hrv is supposed to be the one in europe and asia market. honda is leaving subcompact suv and small hatch market in north America??? wow, I thought they sell those like hotcakes there.

    Honda, put in the 2.0T 252hp from the Accord and....... bring this to Europe also 🤐
    Although, I prefer the exterior of the new HR-V e:HEV (2022) we get in europe (1.5L NA Atkinson Hybrid, no gearbox, no CVT!)

    I've wanted the old HRV with AWD, in a hybrid with 45 + mpg since 2016. The new one has nothing I want. If you want a bigger HRV buy a CR-V or a Toyota. I'm extremely disappointed in Honda.
