  • Join me this week as I change the AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION fluid on my wife’s 2018 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. I will show you how I drop the transmission fluid pan, remove and replace the transmission fluid filter, replace the transmission pan GASKET, and work through finding the CORRECT FILL LEVEL. I hope I can relay the new information to YOU for your future projects. Additionally, I talk about the process for cycling the NEW TRANSMISSION FLUID through the transmission to ensure the fluid level you read is accurate. LEARNING always ENGAGED! Finally, I take the van for a quick spin where I do some quick acceleration and climb some STEEP HILLS. This fix is simple to do and will bring your transmission back to its original performance level with some time, elbow grease, and a little know-how. I am SO EXCITED to share this information with you so you can take the power of fixing your vehicles back into your own hands!

    Good video, it worked on my 2010 dodge grand caravan with 185,500 miles. Just follow the steps like he shows and it works like a charm. After buying the transmission fluid, transmission filter and gasket, it cost me $90 (the fluid was $12 a quart and I needed 6 bottles so that is what cost the most). Thanks for posting the video, made it easy as can be....

    I do all my own work, paid a shop 3x in my 40 years and had to payand fix every repair ive paid for. I used to deliver pizza and if you want to make money doing it, you must fix yourself, helps to have a 50 year mechanic as a father as well.

    If anyone watching this is planning on changing their fluid regularly, take the time to add a universal drain plug if you are confident in your modification skills. Also the best way to make sure you’re putting the same amount of fluid back in is to add a quart, then pour the old fluid in the empty bottle, and repeat until you’ve emptied the old oil from your catch pan.

      Pans with drain plugs already installed are available on Amazon or Autozone.

    I know this video is 2 years old. But for anyone that has this year caravan with no dipstick..you can use your engine oil dipstick. It's a little bit of a process but worth it in the long run. Just need to figure out where the level should be and use a scribe to mark the back side of the oil dipstick so you can use it on both engine oil and tranny. Mark the dipstick at 5mm for the minimum mark and 15mm for max. This is for the 62TE tranny.

    This is a really great video! Very detailed yet moves quickly with all pertinent info!! Only think that might have been helpful is to see the bead of RTV and applying the gasket. But it was pretty obvious what you did there. :) Thanks so much.... sub'd and liked just cuz such a great vid! Cheers.

    They make and sell an aftermarket drain pan that has a drain plug installed. I installed the pan on my first fluid change out on my 2017 GT and I do a fluid drop every 20,000.

    You can suck a little more than 3 quarts out of the fill hole, measure and refill with exact same amount. Do this 3 times while driving 50 miles in between going through the gears and a highway drive. 3 times is sufficient to equal nearly replacing all the fluid.
    The filter can go probably 150k before needing changed if at all.

    I've owned a couple 90s celicas and the upkeep on those is tremendous', lots of wheel bearings and weird stuff gone wring with them but I had them rubbin good lol, now we have a wrx and I usually change the oil on it, did sparkplugs Nd recharge the k&n airfilter it came w, as far as gearboxes and harmonic balancers, ive done a drivetrain swap on my 91gts and have a special technique for removing harmonic balancers involves drilling tapping and special HB remover tool lol they used to just come right off but I had to get one after my gts wouldnt become unstuch

    If there is no leaks, you can also measure how much fluid came out and put the same amount back in.

      That's a great idea. Unfortunately, my catch pan is not ever fully clean so there would be on way for me to accurately measure. I could probably get close though.

    I would really like this question answered:-):-( I have just bought a 2013 Dodge Caravan and I heard you say that the RPMs were revving and the transmission was slipping a little bit. That's exactly what's happening with mine I'm getting a transmission fluid pressure sensor code already flush the transmission and change the filter paid $200 for that and a month later my transmission fluid was non-existent and it started revving again. My first assumption is that sensor needs changed!!! But I'm curious of what happened in the end of you changing the fluids and if you had to make another repair to fix the revving

    • @leisars
      @leisars 28 дней назад

      I'm literally taking it to a transmission shop to get checked today I have a feeling they didn't put the pan on correctly and it was leaking you're supposed to change the bolts to new bolts to make it more secure I'm sure they didn't do that why else would I be missing transmission fluid after just having new put in come on

    Thanks for the video. However, my problem is the hole cap is right under very thick and rigid wire harness and the harness is right against the cap and I cannot even turn the cap to open it. Even if I open it, it's going to be very difficult to even stick the dip stick in there much less pouring in the fluid. You are lucky that you can access the hole without problem. What a bummer!

    • @BeShift3d
      @BeShift3d  2 года назад

      That's unfortunate. Are there any clips on the wire harness you can disconnect to create some slack and get to the cap?

    2017 Grand Caravan GT here with 131.000 miles, bought a year & a half ago with 93 thousand miles.
    Now has over 131.000, getting ready to have my 2nd fluid & filter change.
    One oddity I've noticed, with in a drive through stopped w/ van in drive, I've noticed a clicking noise that takes place 4 to 5 times in a row.....ever 30 seconds or so.
    Anyone else have this issue?
