    Saw Yes Aug. 24th, 2014 at Greek Theater, Los Angeles. I would recommend this line-up to any Yes fan, they are playing great this year. Two songs were performed from this new album in between the complete "Close to the Edge" and "Fragile" album sets. Glad I went.
    I don't know what all these people are so angry about with their negative comments.

    I loved that new album, Yes has always come out with good music. Its some feel good music, which I think we all need more of. Besides they are 60/70 something. Plus Jon Davison wrote most of these songs.

    This is my favorite song on "Heaven and Earth". Thanks for sharing it. I decided not to go to a tour from this show -- Thank you very much for sharing this. The close-up is better than what I would have had. I fail to understand why so many yes people get more and more negative as time goes by. Personally, I don't need to hear CTTE, TYA, or Fragile songs for the umpteenth time. Therefore, getting the new CD was enough for me!

    Why are you focusing on the Person instead of the music? Hey, we all want Anderson but Yes wanted to follow through with another singer who can do the job extremely well. Davison has great respect for Anderson. If you cannot appreciate their new endeavors, then you can save your $$$ and not attend any shows.

    Listen - when I first heard the new album I really didn't like it -- I mean I kinda did...but didn't...but then I kept coming back to it..I'm actually starting to like it...it's weird. But anyhow, gotta admit the new singer is doing pretty good. Would love to hear more progressive music from Yes - but this is kinda nice.

    When Jon Anderson left, a problem given to YES was playing tracks live in the original key. That has meant finding somone not entirely unlike Jon. The original is what people tend to love though. Is Jon Davidson as bad as is being said by some? If he were not competent then Chris Squire would not have had him in the band. Should Jon Anderson be allowed to return? He had been saying YES nearly killed him, and had been blaming them for his illness. There has always been more to the story than his side of it. Jon Anderson needs to have a rethink about the things he was doing at that time and set things to right. Let's not forget too that Jon Anderson had also let YES down previously, going back to 1979. Steve Howe and Alan White might not be original members but they are original performers and composers of many of Yes' numbers. So too with Geoff Downes with his contributions. YES has always been a progressive band. Always moving on to cover new ground. What YES was can be found on CD's. Those that want YES with Jon Anderson can still listen to them. This is part of the YES progression and remains the one and only YES. They might lose fans just as YES lost fans when the Buggles joined - but the band is picking up new fans too. This is nowhere near as bad as the biased ones are making out.

    You know, to be honest I quite like this one because well quite frankly it can relate to the real world everyday, it just depends on how you see the song's meaning

  • @MegaDafrog

    Not the first time YES has written a pop song there are few of them scattered throughout their career. I suppose they could just rearrange the cords from the early albums to create some 'new" prog but the haters would crap on that as well. There are some good moments on the new album. From interviews it seems it was matter of time and money, they didn't have enough of either. As Chris said these days they loose money from new CD's.

      Can't imagine why.when half their music sucks and is uninspired . Attempting to please everyone and pissing off more people than not . People get sick of artists that are egomaniacs and act like potsy hairdressers that can't get along.....and who wants to shell out good money for a disc that only has one decent song on it ? The public is not as stupid as bands like Yes would like to think . They were my favorite band for years...and I believe the best band on the face of the planet ,,,then .. Not sure what they are now .

    Subway Walls, Believe Again, and Light of the Ages are better songs from this album, but this is a nice pop tune. The album isn't so "impressive," but it is very musical. I find the tunes get under the skin and sound better and better with repeat listening. They don't try to be complicated just for the sake of it. It's just music that feels good. Acoustic version of "To Ascend" is very nice, too.

      The singer is Jon Davison, the second replacement lead singer since Jon Anderson got very sick in 2008. Jon can no longer sing 5 shows a week like the band wants, so they carries on without him. Here's the whole story: www.bondegezou.co.uk/wnja.htm

      Jon Davison is STILL a member in his original band, Glass Hammer...he's just doing this Yes-thing for now and doesn't tour with G.H.....part of me wishes he had said "no" to Yes, but you can't fault him for fulfilling a life-long dream.The songs on the other hand....ehh, you can fault him for, he wrote or co-wrote most.

    • @cyradragons
      @cyradragons 8 лет назад

      Lifelong dream? Not sure how you mean that...as a pseudo Jon Anderson or a singer in his own right? He knew nada of Yes until 90125. I hear a vast difference in the quality of his voice when he sings something he had participated in creating compared to when he's just doing karaoke versions of classic Yes. I can actually appreciate Davison doing Davison whereas I loathe him attempting, and failing Anderson.

    Jon Davison looks like Jesus H. Christ. Good singer BTW.

  • @Retroscoop
    @Retroscoop 8 лет назад

    OK, let's first take into account that the recording quality is but so so. Next thing to take into account is that Yes had the courage to explore new paths, and not become something like the Rolling Stones, who has degenerated to the level of a Greatest Hits band. Third thing is, these guys are of course no longer 40, let alone 30 or 20 something....Having said that... How convincing is this live show ? Do you really have the impression these guys, except the singer are enjoying being there ? Squire looks grumpy (no, definetely not "concentrated"), Howe a bit like a nutty professor, White very reliable as always, but also not particularly cheerful. How do you want to get some chemical reaction of your audience that way. Davison seems to enjoy himself, even if he doesn't sound 100 % pure and spot on.I don't know, I really get somewhat depressed seeing this once phenomenally vibrant band just playing without gusto their playlist. It reminds me a bit of the Police reunion tour, with Sting clearly enjoying it, but the two other members looking even grumpier than Squire here. I don't know, not exactly the bands you'd expect to imitate grunge attitudes. OK, I'm sure there will be once again the eternal die hard fans who will see my comment as blasfemy towards their gods and feel an IS-inspired urge to bend my ears for this, but well, the small prints didn't say you were only supposed to leave positive comments or shut up. We're not in North Korea, are we ? I'd LOVE to see a more enthousiastic Yes, but with shows like this, I'll stick to the studio output for now...

    I think this is the second best song from the new album, after Subway Walls - wich barely means anything. If it had a great sound, with, say, Phil Collins on drums and, say, a singer with some character, it would have been a good pop-song, i think.

    This is a really good Yes song with Jon Davison, not Jon Anderson. So you can't criticize in terms of comparing it with classic Yes. This is not classic Yes. Chris Squire approved it and plays on it. Would this song sound better with Anderson? I don't know. Right now, THIS is what we have, so get used to it.

  • @liverawkstar

    The creative well is dry, or was all Jon (Anderson),,, as a long time YES fan (Im 51), It sickens me that they even would title a song with as trivial a title as *"THE GAME"*, how fuckin used, tired and just plain reuse of rock and roll hash (the "left-overs" definition, NOT the mind altering stuff),*WHICH* YES never was... god damn, Im driving to see them in Mesa Arizona tuesday night, sure hope they drop these shit (new) songs from the set list.... YES will always be great musicians, but the creativity ran dry a long long time ago.. and musicianship prowess has NEVER replaced creativity, just look at shit fuckin Dream Theatre and all those "prog" bands that think "prog" is all about musicianship! (PROOF girlfriend ? Pink Floyd, it was always simple music with great creative concepts)

      Like to know what you thought of the show...They WILL be playing these new songs because..well, Jon Davison wrote most all of them and he's a creative "force" in the band now. Check him out with his original band Glass Hammer:

      Aug 20, I have seen YES at least 25x, not including the 6x I followed ABWH around the West Coast on tour:
      When I saw them in Mesa on the 12th (8 days ago): it was THE BEST Ive ever seen them, EVER! They did these two songs I hate, and it sounds like crap that'd come over Christian (rock) Radio here in America, not like Im anti christian or anything, but that music sucks... Jon Davidson's performance was STELLAR.... and of course as always STEVE HOWE stood out as the best,,, Geoff Downes STELLAR: although his love of digital keyboards leads a bit to be desired, like on the lead line of "and you and I".
      They did 3 encores..
      shortest YES concert Ive ever seen, aside from 90125 tour, but that was horrifying anyway...
      just around or under 2 hours...
      I think the thing that really pissed me off the most has nothing to do with the music: but was the comments I heard from people filing out of their seats saying "Steve Howe looks depleted or gaunt etc etc" as a life long vegan myself this pissed me off, because really Steve Howe ACTUALLY looks great for someone nearing 70... the rest of the band members, other than Jon Davidson are fuckin FAT ASSES, especially Chris Squire, if he did that little ballerina stance he used to when he was younger all the time, the one leg he was standing on would crumble..
      I hate Glass Hammer, Im an artist, and art is from the heart and unique: and frankly: I dont get the point of a band that "sounds like something"....
      *Steve Howe is a bad ass mother fucker*
      he was constantly putting slight variations on his parts, to show you he is still a master, not only techniquely, but creatively. No where was this more obvious than the very last track *Starship Troopers* where he kept fucking with the cadence of the simple 3 chord pattern of *Wurm*....
      In case you think Im a guitar fanboy or something, Iam totally the opposite, Iam a synth fanatic and drum programmer,,, and I for the most part IMHO think guitarist "in general" are idiots...
      Steve Howe was the first musician I ever worshipped,
      and he is still worthy of that praise today...
      Oh btw, amusing as fuck to me is the fact that Alan White on youtube and at the show I saw appears to be having nothing but problems with playing "Five Per Cent For Nothing", the Bill Bruford solo from "Fragile"...
      On that note , it is the first time Ive ever heard "Fish" done as it is on "Fragile" (*BADASS*), in times past that has always been the biggest most self indulgent pile of crap ever....
      They do "We Have Heaven", and stuff is either on tape (which i dont care) or Geoff Downes is doing something with Electronics..
      "South Side of The Sky", long time my favorite YES track ever (other than material on "Tales.." and "Relayer")... that was *spectacular*
      my friend and I that I saw YES with, on getting back to the car to leave, made a pact that we always would see them from now on everytime they tour.... with their age and all, possibly being their last show..
      YES is without a doubt the best band ever,
      and that is a major compliment coming from a guy like me, since my taste in music tends to synth-only stuff....
      *I HIGHLY recommend seeing this version of the band* before one of them is replaced by some sad fuck like Trevor Rabin...
      and on that note they did "Owner Of a Lonely Heart" in encores, which Steve Howe played on a bright red strat, and constantly fucked with notes and cadences to make it his own, Ive seen numerous times in print and youtube him saying he hates that song...

      liverawkstar Thanks, glad you liked the show! Still don't see how any show without Jon Anderson could be better, but that's your opinion. Steve Howe for me was always one of the best live performers (right there with Wakeman). I do think this version of the band with Jon Davison has some life left in them. Hope they do one more album that is not as insipid as this one...they deserve to go out on a better "note"...if they ever go out! haha. One thing is for sure..the classic line-up with Anderson and Wakeman deserve to be in the RR HoF. If Genesis made it, so should Yes. Someday probably... maybe.

    • @Tsnore

      Don't you get it? The Game is fat guys in Hawai'ian shirts that hide their huge guts and can still play decently enough, making money off fat middle-aged codgers, seniors, and a smattering of youth, the latter two hiding their guts and butts, and with most cheering wildly like it was 1977 or 1984 or even 2002! Each must earn a cool million on every annual tour (US, Americas, Europe, Asia, etc.), some to cover excessive British taxes! And we still want, nay need, more!

    • @dabull136
      @dabull136 10 лет назад

      Tsnore Well, clearly it's about the money the can still earn on the road. The don't HAVE to keep touring like they do...they just love doing it and make more doing that than they earn on any residual checks. And WHO CARES who their audience is...I just went and saw King Crimson kick ass and the audience was filled with "middle-aged codgers, seniors, and a smattering of youth" and so what? Good music is lost on today's youth...they are too addicted to iphones and texting to sit down for more than 5 minutes and LISTEN to what is actually going on in a song. Speaking of which...it was the damn youth TEXTING during the concert!!

      Raelspark We are focusing on the person because we are discussing the person. Is it forbidden to discuss Rembrandt or his imposters if we discuss their paintings?
      It wasn't "Yes" who wanted to leave Anderson behind, it was Squire-Howe-White who chose to (1) dump him, and to (2) not get him aboard once he had recovered. Besides, everyone is entitled to discuss or judge or vilify that choice, in spite of your not having problems with it.
      It is your personal opinion that Davison is "doing extremely well". To me, he is not doing "extremely well" at all. To me, Davison is to Anderson like a Nightwatch cookie box is to the original Rembrandt painting. It may be a nice cookie box, but it is not the Real Thing. As said, you can't replace Mick Jagger with any other 'capable singer' without losing the core of the Rolling Stones.
      Yes, I am well aware that I can choose to not attend concerts, thank you. I can also choose to say what I want to say in public fora such as this one.
