- Live at the Rainbow Theatre, London, UK.
15 & 16 Dec 1972 ('Close to the Edge' Tour)
Yours Is No Disgrace
Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face.
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human race,
On a sailing ship to nowhere, leaving any place,
If the summer change to winter, yours is no disgrace.
Battleships confide in me and tell me where you are,
Shining, flying, purple wolfhound, show me where you are,
Lost in summer, morning, winter, travel very far,
Lost in losing circumstances, that's just where you are.
Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face.
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human race,
On a sailing ship to nowhere, leaving any place,
If the summer change to winter, yours is no,
Yours is no disgrace.
Yours is no disgrace.
Yours is no disgrace.
Battleships confide in me and tell me where you are,
Shining, flying, purple wolfhound, show me where you are,
Lost in summer, morning, winter, travel very far,
Lost in losing circumstances, that's just where you are.

The more Yes I watch, the more am I amazed by Steve Howe, and find myself wondering how he is not routinely mentioned as one of the top guitarists of the 70s. The application of jazz and chicken picking inflections into prog was utterly unique.
He is!
Yep. so underrated, it's sad
actually, back then he was mentioned as one of the top guitarists of the 70's.
Steve Howe is the best guitarist ever; I'm a Hendrix/Clapton fan, too.
Howe was voted "Best Overall Guitarist" in Guitar Player magazine five years in a row (1977-1981) and in 1981 was the first rock guitar player inducted into the Guitar Player Hall of Fame. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Howe
Steve's playing is magical there. No gimmicks, no cliches, no string bending. His own unique speedy beautiful style. Such a maestro. My favourite guitarist. Underrated surely. One of the best.
Agreed. Steve Howe single-handedly pushed just about every song Yes performed.
@@stargate1555and Asia following that!
now, at the age of 63, i have Finally came to the conclusion that Yes is the best overall
About time.
Many many great Rock and Roll artists during those days! Best of times for me.
For me, the best ever since The Beatles. A beautiful and brutal blend of classical, fusion and rock 'n roll. No one else compares.
*YES*, indeed....and I bemoan so much of the pop cr@p I mindlessly preferred in previous years.
I agree, at 62 & almost 63, as well.
5 musicians who didn't just say it but also played it. Thank you YES
The whole band is magic.
It was a magical time to be alive.
@@somedumbozzie1539 Yes it was I was 18 years old then now I am 70
@@BillBadMule123 Now not so much.
Those vocal harmonies on top of that beautiful music ... and Capes !!!!
Guess What Rick Wakeman (Keyboards) is still playing live, his music and no doubt some of YES is touring .PS Don't know about the cape.
Squire and Howe had an incredible stage presence
Yes, one of the finest bands ever to evolve.
Elaborate.
People tend to forget that the name of this genre is Progressive ROCK! Yes live at this period really showed how exciting this could be.
YES 100% so prog rock
Steve Howe is an absolute beast from the guitar planet
From the beginning Steve Howe showed less gain was more rock while crossing so many styles in his improvisation. No Marshall stack, no Les Paul. What an amazing musician and approach.
I agree, cheers from cologne 😀🎉🍷🇩🇪
Never get tired of this.
These guys were simply amazing! RIP Christopher Squire!
This song is such an epic jam session start to finish. They are all amazing. My favorite song off this album.
Steve Howe is a gift from god.
Steve is God
from 7:58 on he was playing some other music from anthor plane
indeed.....and underrated, he's never mentioned as it is beck, hendrix, gallagher, blackmore, page or any other classic mate
They all are
@Aeryn Sun Rolling Stone didn't even acknowledge him as being in the top 100 guitarists of all time. One of the reasons I would never take a ROlling Stone poll seriously. Steve Howe is a precision artist extraordinaire.
Steve's guitar had a mind of its own: amazing!
Steve Howe deserves to be one or the best guitar payers ever.
Judging by his huge guitar collection, he's surely one the the greatest guitar 'payers' ever. Lol
No question.
@@MatheusManzano exceptional payer! Haha
He really was at the top of his game in 1972
Guitar Player mag's best overall guitarist 1977 - 1981 consequtively, no mean feat
Yessongs still mind blowing 50 years later nothing comes close!!!
Jon has a beautiful voice
The voice of an Angel!
I was there at this show when they recorded this album what a great show
it was several nights.
I'm 65 and I still love this band and their music. They had such an impact on me in my teenage years. I was 16 when Yessongs was released. A couple of nights ago a thunderstorm blew in. I told everybody to relax, it was just Chris, Alan and Peter jamm'in. May they all Rest In Peace. love and "light" to all....
63 year old here this music is programmed into my soul so I can take i with me when I leave this place.
@@somedumbozzie1539 Me too. I'll see you up there
Me too best time of my life
@@somedumbozzie1539 OK with you all the way..I am 71 don't plan on going anywhere soon. live and love life. Great Music is timeless
Eh oui camarade, c'est vrai aussi de ce côté de la
Yes fan from Philly
Greatest band of all time
Yes fan from San Antonio
I agree 👍
Alan White RIPS the drums up !! Do you think Yes was going to put an average drummer in their band? Bruford is a phenom and genius..but ALAN WHITE was an animal drummer...world class !!
Michael, Alan White is my favorite of both. Brufford is a very serious drummer, Alan enjoys playing drums.
@@sergioamayajr.5868 Have you ever watched Bruford play? He looks like he's having the time of his life every time. I agree he is serious about his work, but that doesn't mean he can't enjoy playing
Travis, as you probably know, William Scott Bruford, was a member of King Crimson an Genesis, both very serious prog bands. Without a doubt Allan White is my favorite drummer and was a member of my most favorite group, Yes.
@@sergioamayajr.5868 Yes I know that, and I didn't mean any animosity in my first comment. Bruford happens to be my favourite drummer, and King Crimson my favourite prog rock band so I am aware of my bias. Yes couldn't have chosen a better replacement for Bruford, he is a fantastic drummer
Travis, FYI; Christmas eve my friends and I will be listening to ''YesSongs'' (Lp) on its entirety while we smoke American made Macanudo cigars. Happy holidays!
This band is so unique in there own way that they were put on this earth just to jam for all of us
I have to say something - these guys were my first 'introduction' to what I recognised as musicians. They played as good, if not better, than their recordings, which at the time of this video was a big thing. Groups like Genesis moulded themselves on them. Chris Squires and Rick Wakeman along with Jon Anderson and Steve Howe became ledgends in the same vein as Eric Clapton. One must recognise talent for what it is, and these guys had it in abundance. 45 years later, I still enjoy their music.
Amen.
Carol Anderson couldn't sat it ant better
marry me!
I don't agree that Genesis moulded themselves on them. They both started about the same time. Genesis had a Pythonish sense of humor, and surrealism that Yes would never have. Not taking anything away from Yes. Yes rocked harder than they get credit for. If you said they both moulded themselves after King Crimson, I might buy that.
Rick Wakeman is the funny man of the band. His Grumpy Old Rock Star bio is hilarious.
steve is coming from another galaxy.......
YES...THE BEST PROGRESIVE ROCK BAND OF ALL TIME..Thanks for share... Great performance...great arrangement
Can you believe they didn't get into the R&R Hall of Fame right away ? What a crime !
But they were in rock and roll hall of fame ! In 2017 👌
Yeah, it happened decades late, but critics of that era hated prog. Great video! People complained that Yes never improvised, but Steve’s solo here is almost entirely improv.
The rock hof is the actual disgrace. Why anyone cares about that nonentity is beyond me.
@@mysterirhys rick Wakeman ALWAYS improvised and so Steve Howe in this record. The critics heard another band then.
LOVE YOU! ALAN WHITE , ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS . Rest in PEACE
Greatest prog band of all time. Oh, for a time machine to relive one of those nights!
I have a Yes bumper sticker on my car and I get somewhat embarrassed about it but, then, when I listen to Yes it always reminds me to be proud to be a fan of the best band in the world! Spread the word!
Jon Standing peacefully amongst all that surrounding violence. 🇬🇧
I miss these concerts
When this came out in the movie theaters I was 16. I cut school all week. The theater opened at 11 am and would stay and watch it over and over.
Yes songs then Led Zeppelins song remains the same.
I will never forget when it cane out in the theaters
at age 11 then wish you were my older sib and took me along! how awesome for you ! 🎶
& ten outta ten would agree, it was a much more efficient use of your time.
Me too, crazy….
Steve Howe is impressively shining on this live performance !
Oh Lord. Thank you for these guys. Blessings to all who were there. i was there!!!! The absolute joy.
The essence of Rock n Roll, of the 70’s, of Prog, Of Guitar playing,of analog synth culture, of vocals. Yours Is No Disgrace is mankind rock anthem milestone as much as Close To Edge is the pinnacle of human art rock standing forever after we will be extinct.
Wow, I’m just blown away…..
A great time for Yes! They sounded SO great during this era!
The term 'underrated' is thrown around a lot (especially in the world of progressive rock), but Steve is literally the most underrated guitarist of all time.
Steve Howe is the no. 1 rock guitarist, but he is nevah number one on any online survey of 'expert' opinions.... WHY?.... BECAUSE HE IS MUSICAL - not raunchy! WE YES FANS KNOW HE IS NO. 1.... !!
Yes are a very popular group
He isn't showy, and yet is doing the most insane lines. Sometimes it comes across as just a little fluttering detail, but insane hard stuff.
Underrated by who? He’s widely regarded as one of the best and he’s in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Steve Howe’s playing is not exactly a well kept secret or anything. You can hear Roundabout on the radio still like 3 times a day.
You absolutely right. See my post above.
What a band! These guys are great! I've loved this band for years. Mine is no disgrace!!!
The best live band. This is stupendous.
Saw them in Newcastle City Hall 1972. Was so lucky to have been there! fantastic!
Flippin brilliant! Best line-up of the best band ever! ❤
UNCLE~MR.STEVE HOWE IS A SHOW UNTO HIMSELF...
ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL GUITARIST 🎸..
Steve went complete beast mode.
And the addition of Wakeman was so next level. The missing link
Humanity is lost.We have peaked as a species. They dont make humans like this anymore.
LOL!!! What a Great comment! I laughed my Butt off at this! But you are absolutely Right!
lol I agree. Humanity peaked in the late 60's and early 70's with just the music and moon landings alone!
All on my watch. You're welcome.
Will Robinson : Relax, there is hope...?.Steve Wilson and The Tree......etc...keep trying.
Tool: hold my beer
YES was a "supergroup" right out of the gate.So unique and original and wonderfully inspirational and uplifting. There is an abundace of extreme talent on that stage! All that sick instrumentation...then the aural beauty of Jon Andersons voice and poetic lyrics.Amazing art!
Outstanding
Steve Howe my Hero!
He's really KILLING it 😎😎😎
First saw them with Jethro Tull at Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, 1970? I was blown away and 53 years later I still am!
Chris REALLY loved being in this band!
When Steve came into the band they took off to a new level.
Chris Squire R.I.P. If they gave out an MVP award for rock and roll bassists' he would have gotten it!
Amen!
5 angels came for ca 7 years together to bring a piece of heaven down to earth...... 🌎😇🎶🌞
Legendary!
I love Yes!
.
... Excellnt ...... Yes is Yes Forever and ever.
.
this coud be my favorite live version of any song ever
Definitely one of my favorite Yes tunes. I always thought this song was the best tune to use when introducing a newbie to Yes. Great way to get your feet wet...or rather "ears wet" :D
If I had a time machine, I'd go back to see this for myself.
I have been a Yes fan since the early 80’s, this is great!
What a bunch of brilliant musos and tech song writers. I saw them live seems like a thousand years ago when "close to edge" came out. Even way back then they blew us away. I had been playing Guitar for 10 yrs solidly in bands back then and they just about made me want to give up. I still listen to them a lot. Love them. So sad Chris has gone. He was SO unique.
Chris is absolutely beautiful, his clothes are so shiny... He looks like he has colourful fish scales!!! Fitting for his nickname
My favorite Alive songs ✨✨✨
beyond roundabout this song reaches the infinite...a time and space we will all hopefully achieve.
Hard to believe........ The only member of the band that played on every album and went on every tour.
And also seemed to be the most joyful... Hmmm
The Mighty Chris Squire.
His voice worked well with JA’s, he is overlooked as a singing part of who they were.
E um dos melhores solo de guitarra ate hoje feito, na hora em que steve Howe abandona o mundo e somente e ele a e guitarra( so alguns vão saber ver esse momento no video) e a perfeição de um solo....e somente a Guitarra e você, nada mais importa....
Fabulous...What a Band..
Amazing. Just pure genius
Wow! An absolutely amazing performance!
WHAT A BAND
This is one of those Yes songs that sounds SOOO much better Live over the studio version. Wow. Incredible.
They’ve always met or exceeded studio performances #IMHO; the audience is part of the magic - d’ya hear the baby at the beginning of this?
Concidering that the studio version is one of the best recordings ever made by anyone until the date it was released in 1971.
So young....and such amazing talents. Amazingly, they all kept getting better at their individual crafts. Now that Chris is gone, if they really want to revitalize the band they need to bring Rick and Jon back into the fold. As it stands now, they are basically a tribute band. But wow, look at them here. Simply awesome!
there is no "YES" without Chris, Sure there are Bassists out there who can fill the spot, but to me it would just be a "cover band" at that point why even do it...for the money?
OMG Steve Howe on his classic ES-175 wow he can make that guitar sing just amazing
Fricken AY!, my Friend! YES!. Amaayzing! Wow, the Bomb! I must say that I'm blown away!
Truly awesome ! I remember doing my homework in high school and my dad unplugged my headphones to hear what I was listening to . Of course it was at full volume . Almost blew my speakers . He loved the complexity of Yes. Which strikes me as funny now . His favorite band at the time was Glenn Miller .
he must be the most outstandin' guitarist of all time
@@donnysarian Unlikely to be pristine after all the use it has got over the years, is it?
Greatest 🎸 player Ever!
Steve Howe is absolutely incredible! I saw Yes 1n 1978 - right after Rick Wakeman had rejoined the band - one of the best concerts I've ever seen
Steve's phenomenal solo reduced Rick to a mere tambourine!
Chris Squier had the best Edgy Bass Tone in all of history.
Excellent
thanx.
Thanks for posting you have made and old mad feel happy or a happy mad feel old its hard to tell these days.
In my Option.Steve.Howe is an
especially guitarplayer.For the number one.It shows it,Ehen He play :Mood for a day,or The clap.Great,with my 63years soon,I never Stop playing guitar.My e-guitar is a John.Birch 1971 build and soon ready for playing.Thank you,Mr.Steve.Howe for Great Music
This is flipping great ! It’s nice to see Jon Anderson, and Rick Wakeman back again, in the real YES !!! 2018 concert! I bought the video last night, it’s bloody great 👍
Geez. Forgot how much I loved Yes. Chris must be reaching out and touching me from the other side. Simply wow real world heritage level musicians not posers that we've had to endure since punk...
I was feeling that as well on this spin! Love it! I was imagining the joy on #SteveHowe’s face as #ChrisSquire instantly picked up on his grooves. When me Mum had said to 7-year old me: “Church Is Wherever You Are, Dear,” This Is What She Meant.
MY GOD STEVE ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
The intro to this song off the yes songs album is 0ne of the reasons I picked up the guitar in 79.its magic
R.I.P Chris :'-(
As a 15 year old teen just getting into music, Yessongs changed my life. Shortly before I heard Roundabout from FRagile and was totally blown away & had to hear more. So, I rode my bike to the mall bought Yessongs. Then, Relayer, Tales, and all the rest. 1st saw Yes in 1977, then another 20 or so times after, last time in 1991 with the Union Tour. Great memories of a truly Great band. Thanks for posting this, always loved the intro & this amazing song.
It’s now May 2021 and watching it again ! It’s just brilliant !
Pssst, was there, got the ticket to prove it... Recall it so well, wonderous
jerry Thompson I am jealous. I was 4 YO when this came out. Too young. Wish I could have been there and enjoyed it. However I did see them on the Big Generator tour and they played a lot of classic stuff. They are touring now, going to make it a point to see them in TX. Old and late but better late then never.
jerry Thompson I saw this show 11/10/72 in Roanoke Va my first concert ever. At the time it was magical but all these years later it’s still sinking in. RIP Chris...
post it.
I saw them in September of 1972. 7 of us drove 5 hours to see them in what is probably a small auditorium, the Armory building in Minneapolis. Each one of us remembers the concert as life changing. Even as I wrote that, it sounded frivolous to say a rock concert was life changing, but it was. I know those of us still alive could never attend another live concert and feel like it was the greatest ever. I attended 3 more Yes concerts, one with front row seats in 1975, but no other concert made me feel like I was in another dimension, like one with the music. They created magic
I dreamed this song last night,
played this, this morning,
& am highly satisfied
& in awe.
💖🕊
If you read guitar magazines you would se Steve Howe mentioned as one of the best guitarists of the ‘70’s.
They played without any AI only human.Great!
The reason he's not mentioned is he scarred the pants off the Clayton's, Pages and Gilmores of the time. While they were stuck in endless pentatonic blues rock, he was was playing full scales and had even developed his own eclectic style. The mark of true genius.
Imagine that you're drumming at Live Peace Toronto in 69, on All Things Must Pass a year later, on 'Imagine' a year later, and then with these guys a year later. PHEW....
Iconic live performance.
Steve can really JAM
Outstanding. I could listen to this a hundred times.
RIP Alan.
