  • I love a good adventure and I REALLY love getting lost in the woods. Some of my best adventure memories are pre cell phone times when I was lost on logging trails in bad weather with flooded roads or when I got lost in the southern California desert at night on a dirt bike. I have had more than my share of those experiences. If I had video footage from it I could start a pretty decent adventure channel.
    I thought this trip might turn into one of those lost in the woods moments but once I found my way through this ninety thousand acre spread, there was only one way out. Getting in was a little challenging though. As you can imagine this is not an address that will pull up in Google maps. Once I was in, the first person I found was a gentleman in his late seventies who didn't roll out the red carpet for me. I introduced myself and explained who I was looking for only to get a mean look and long moment of silence while I assume he was contemplating whether or not to run me out of there. He then kind pointed up the road before driving off.
    When I got to the place with the bee infestation I was welcomed warmly by a young man and his son who are recent additions to this community as handyman and caretaker. My customer and new beekeeping student arrived as I was completing the hive removal. She happily joined in on transferring bees to her new equipment. We spent a good bit of time talking winter strategy and what to expect come spring. I think she will make an incredible beekeeper.

    Hi Randy, with it being 9 degrees outside at the moment and more snow arriving, I'm so glad this showed up in my feed :) 90,000 acres? That's a Texas-Scale property! 06:21 A memory for life. 14:57 Ah yes, digging through the hive history, honey bee archeology :) 17:51 The crash course in handling bees begins. You're a fantastic ambassador for bees and beekeeping. What a great start to my day, thanks Randy! Superb photojournalism at the end... as always! You could easily work as a stringer for any online news outlet.

    I was on Mr Eds this morning, I was explaining on his channel I got interested in watching the Bee stuff a couple of yrs ago here on your page, because my Boston was attacked by some other dogs. They ate her back legs up really bad, it looked like hamburger meat. I thought i was going to have to have her put down because she was going to loose both back legs. But the vet said we have a new treatment lets try it out & see what happens. They called it a wet/sugar treatment. I had to take her to the vet like every 2 or 3 days have her badges changed along with her treatments. They were able to save one leg.. come to find out the treatment was HONEY!! So now i keep raw uncut honey at all times. About a week ago i guess she got her one leg cut across the scar area, it was swollen and bleeding. She couldnt walk she was just dragging it. So i cleaned her leg really good, put honey around her wound wrapped it up, the swelling was down within a couple of days and now shes going like nothing was wrong. I knew honey was good for you but for open wounds ect was new to me. That stuff really is liquid gold! ❤❤❤

      My grandfather on my mom's side had a 1,200 acre farm in Wayne county MS. He passed when I was a toddler and that farm land got divided between his ten kids. When I was growing up my mom had two hundred acres and the old home place. We used to spend holidays and some weekends up there working on the place and I always said that's where I was going to live when I grew up. She sold it all off when I was a teenager so that dream died. haha Other family members still have their land up there, but I only go visit once every few years..

    • @628DirtRooster

      It’s just pine forests. There is no farm land to speak of.

    • @markwelsch940
      @markwelsch940 5 месяцев назад

      @@628DirtRooster Thanks for all of your videos!! What you saw on those 90,000 acres was more than likely not what that land looked like 100 years ago. Back then there were much larger trees. Red Cedar trees up to 3 feet in diameter and 50 feet tall. Yellow heart pine 6 feet in diameter and 70 feet tall.
      If it was part of a plantation, they harvested a lot of the old-growth trees to build ships, businesses, homes and to fuel the fires of industry.
      Here is an excerpt from this website: forestry.alabama.gov/Pages/Management/Forms/History_State_Forestry.pdf
      During the years 1818 and 1819, a man by the name of John Landreth was employed by the
      US Board of Navy Commissioners as a surveyor of Live Oak and Red Cedar. The wood of
      these two species was essential to the shipbuilding industry-particularly the construction of
      warships.
      His job was to reserve for the public domain certain sections of land on which Live Oak and
      Red Cedar occurred in abundance. He journeyed to the southern part of Clarke County, which
      was then a part of Monroe County. The following excepts have been taken from his journal:
      Visited Cedar Creek;
      should be reserved
      T.6,R.4E, Monroe County, Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 and 12
      - 5,760 acres containing Red Cedar.
      T.7,R.4E, Monroe County, Sections 32, 33, 34 and fraction Section 29 should be reserved
      - 2,320 acres contain Red Cedar
      Red Cedar trees 1 to 3 feet in diameter and 40 to 50 feet in height, clear of limbs. On the
      8,080 acres, there are 80,000 tons or 3,200,000 feet of prime Red Cedar. Yellow heart
      pine 3 to 6 feet in diameter and 60 to 70 feet clear of limbs. Also considerabte quantity
      of elegant White Oak.
      Although Landreth did not qualify his estimate, it is believed that he was referring to cubic
      feet rather than board feet and to merchantable volume in squared timbers rather than in standing
      trees. The term “board foot” was not in common use at the time. Instead, “superficial foot”
      (surface foot) was used in describing the contents of planks and boards.

    Another good one man!!! I have been watching a few everyday but some have been older ones. I like watching your dad in the older ones. He is a precious soul. Keep making all the videos you can with him in them. One day you will be glad you did.
    I also love your still photography! You do a really good job composing and framing your shots. You have a good eye too. I also shoot Nikons. My current bodies are a D300 and also a D3S full frame. I got into photography back in the mid to late 70’s while in the navy shooting 35mm. Then in the mid 80’s I bought a medium format film camera and even had a studio for a couple of years. I’m 65 now and retired. I haven’t shot much the last few years but I plan to get back at it pretty soon. It seems like everybody that has a cellphone thinks they are a photographer now 😂.
    Digital is great now but something I’ve noticed and realized not too long ago…..You remember back in the day you could go to pretty much anyone’s house and the walls would be covered in pictures. Since digital cameras came out and everyone having a cell phone they take tons of pics but most people don’t ever have any prints made and there’s just not as many pictures hanging on those walls.
    Sorry, I know you are busy and I didn’t mean to ramble and take up your time. Now, back to videos!!!!

    • @628DirtRooster
      @628DirtRooster  5 месяцев назад

      I've been wanting to get into medium format. I still shoot some 35mm with a Nikon N4004s and a Yashica Electro 35. I hadn't noticed about the decline in photos on people's wall but now that you say that it's pretty obvious. Even in our house, we have a lot of art but not a lot of photography. My parent's house has more pictures (all old of course).

    Do you know what the difference is between your channel and Mr.Eds is? I have to use closed caption to understand what he is saying 😂😂😂, no just kidding love watching all you guys channels, I have learned so much about bees to the point I want to start keeping bees myself. Thank you but Mr. Ed needs to give more energy while he's doing videos he's kind of sluggish 😂😂😂😂. We know that's a lie.😂😂😂

Something like that no one could hear you scream if needed . Ya that was a good quick cut out . That was very nice of you to let that woman get her feet wet .
