Wang Chuqin is getting so much better. Ma Long seemed very slow and doesnt have any motivation. After spending energy on major tournaments, this is when his performance drops like the previous years. He needs a break instead of playing. He shouldnt even participate in Korea and Australia Opens.
Just one word to describe Wang, DANGEROUS. He was strong over the table, targeting MA long's wide forehand, outsmarting the GOAT and not falling for MA long's tricks. He even do it with an Injury and that's the most amazing part.He will be the next world champion for sure.
What a marvelous win for Wang! He played a really smart game. Pretty much a textbook match for the new ITTF ball. At such a young age, he has pretty much all the shots, smarts, tactics and mental focus. If he can keep this up, the sky is the ceiling for him. This is why he won the Youth Olympics last year over Harimoto. The scary thing is that he can only gets better.

Even though Ma long played very smart and tried all his tactics, Wang is so powerful and consistent on his forehand. When I watched Wang beat the screaming kid in earlier match, I can tell Wang is at his top performance in this tournament.
Wang Chuqin played at almost godlike level while Ma Long is a 30 year old player showing wear and tear in his physical and mental game after 4 back to back tournaments.

if the men's final could be set in the next day just like the women's singles, so wang chuqin had the chance to rest and adjust his lower chest mescle more. The men's final was kind of boring to watch, wang couldn't really full swing his forehand. the final just leaned to one side. but the semi-finals were really exciting.
Ma long is sluggish by his standard... made many errors during his signature forehand counter rally. He also lost many first set recently... which is atypical. Maybe age is finally catching up on him.. Wang moves very well and balanced on both wings.
ML needs a mentor who can chart a course to his next WC. He needs to conserve his energy for the very best. Yuppies are a plenty now and he cannot take them all all the time.
Again...ML is not even trying, and is not his age, i think is motivation or maybe is taking care to avoid injuries, you can compare the hungry dragon footwork before WTTC and this poor version of ML. In the other hand, WCQ is playing awesome, but XX with some powerful strokes and very good footwork, as usual, beat Him 4-0.
As soon as you watch him play you know he's gonna be amazing for years if he keeps working hard and is good mentally at the end of games..he's so quick and consistent, like a better version of LG
WC played great because ML took it easy on him that is my humble opinion. I think the Chinese team is grooming and building confident in the next generation. I do see that WC has become a much better player in this tournament...a lot less error.

I won't discredit WCQ, he got talent, attitude and mentality, the perfect successor for The Dragon. Regarding his lost desire, I disagree with that since from the interview after China Open, he said that he still want to fight, he hasn't reach the enlightenment yet.

It definitely looks like Ma Long has lost his hunger for the game at the moment. The truth is his playing style is probably the most demanding ever physically, and without a high degree of motivation, he isn't nearly the same player. BetterDanGaming i watched LGY since U21 in 2010, only backhand is impressive. imo he is not a very good double player too although as a left hand player.
Well the thing is the leader position is still up for debate. Last year, Fan Zhendong is on the rise, Xu Xin still stuck in a swamp, Wang Chuqin is the strongest out of CNT U-20 but he still focused on Junior World Tour, Lin Gaoyuan mentality was weak, Liang Jingkun haven't showed any good result. Now if we look at this year, FZD is falling, Xu Xin is rising, WCQ is making a name for himself, LGY mentality is getting better, while LJK hasn't got any fame. So who got to be the leader then?
