I've carefully planned out where to shop and what prices are the best. I've studied the sale ads and I know which stores have the best prices. Today's shopping comes from 10 Box, Aldi, Kroger, and Wal-Mart. Later in the month, I'll make purchases from Sam's Club and Azure Standard. Two ideas for videos - 1. What is the difference between dehydrating and freeze drying? 2. What exactly is done during the family cleaning hour done once a week. Who does what and such? Thanks, Janice!
Freeze drying completely removes any liquid from your product and allows storing for 20 years or so, dehydration eliminated most of the liquid and the product is good for about a year generally speaking.

@@susangrote3633, plus you can pulverize any freezer dried item, this will allow you to use them as food coloring and smoothies.
Freezer drying will also lead to crunchy texture of the itens been frozen.
Freeze dried grapes for example, are great to Sweet drinks and baking goods without altering the flavor.
I love how the budget is tight but you still find room for treats. That’s important I think. Life is short so finding the right balance is important.
@@werethewilsons I’m more so referring to the “extras” in a budget that has to go when things get tight. Such as Oreos, ice cream, s’mores, chips..etc.
It is the balance in this family that I really enjoy watching..eating healthy most of the time, growing food, homemade meals but also realizing life is too short to say no to Oreos. Anyway, have a great night.

When you open the corned beef can, make a little hole in the smaller end first to break the suction, then when you open it with either the key or a tin opener on the bigger end, it will just slide out!
That corned beef from Aldi's is good. I have some put away for preparedness. It is a hard can to open with the metal key. I open the large end with a regular can opener then loosen the sides to coax the meat out.😊

I noticed you don’t buy much meat or dairy or cheese and I find my budget largely goes to them and it’s rare that they are on sale. Janice, just wanted to ay, the canned con beef you bought, in my opinion is delicious!! I’ve been eating it since I was a young child and I’m 70 now. It makes the best sandwich ever!! It can also make great Ruben soup, casserole’s Etc. I think your all going to love it 💕🙏🙏

Janice i have been gifted about 2 bushels of spples this year. I now have plenty of apple products. Today as i listened to your video i was canning fried apples. Lots of work but worth it.
I live right down the road from 10 Box. I’m going to go today and get the red potatoes.
Just wanted to let you know I have been munching on my jar of pickles you said I would like- I love them!!! That is the recipe you fermented on the counter and burped every day. Next year I will be sure to make several jars of those!

You can make a pot of tomatoes and macaroni and add the can corned beef. It’s really good. I add butter and salt, pepper, and garlic. Really good on a cold evening.
We add that canned corned beef to fried cabbage. Delicious!

When I get the three colour salad mix on sale I but into bags and freeze them. Then I add it to my soups. Then I do not have to chop the veggies and this helps me as I have physical limitations.
I do that also. I have put it in the dehydrator also to add to soup.

Our family and friends love the canned corn beef....I dice potatoes and onions fry until soft and lightly browned..add the corn beef and heat throughly salt and pepper to taste. I like to make fried cabbage and of course a cast iron pan of cornbread. Never any leftovers.
Walmart has can beef for $3.00 a can. Regular price.

Kroger romance Lolol . I had forgotten about malt. My dad loved when my mom made him chocolate malt ice cream shakes. Hadn’t thought about that in years. Great video! Always love catching the AlDI sales.

Oh Janice you always have to keep an eye on the TEMP of your car you do not want to blow your engine 😩 I grew up in the country and as soon as I got my license my father got me a AAA CARD and it was the best thing that he did ❤️so we did the same when our daughter got her license at 16 yrs old and my hubby showed our daughter to always keep an eye on temp she checks her own oil and water and she changed the oil 🤣 Janice all husband’s always put more in the basket when we go to Costco my hubby is always at the TASTERS and if he likes something it’s going into the cart I loose him sometimes 🤣💙 and my husband’s favorite CANDY since he was a child is also SNICKERS 🎊🎉 So the van overheating 🥵 was a sign for you and Shawn to have a nice date ❤️👍

Hey Janice, did you know Walmart has a cheaper price for the beef sausage than you paid. The Johnsonville brand was $3.47 today at Walmart. That is usual price, not digital coupon. Usually Smithfield brand is the cheapest. Also Walmart green tea, great value brand is $2 for 40 count.
I think the Kroger tea bags are bigger in size so it might make up a little for the increase in price

Had to laugh a bit when you said you liked the frost pineapple coconut sparkling water. I like the frost water very much and a great price at Aldi, but to me that pineapple coconut drink makes me think i have downed a bottle of Hawaiian Tropic suntan oil…..😂. Have a great day!
Speaking of the Puff’s Plus tissues…do you find your family gets sick a lot less since they are homeschooled. My DIL has homeschooled my grandchildren since the schools closed due to the pandemic and there was such a dramatic difference from them being in-class as far as illness…before that there was ALWAYS 1 or more people in the household sick, often the entire household and then turn around a couple weeks later it was something new. Now it is rare for anyone to be ill.
I think you can get green tea on line at dollar tree but you have to order 12 or 24.
I do my weekly shopping on Fridays as our Kroger does 4 times the fuel points on Friday. Today I spent $192.00 and I had a savings of $93.00 so I am pleased with my weekly haul.

FYI Janice my experience , menards hands down cheaper on batteries and when 11% sale going on its win win situation sometimes $1.00 or more cheaper not including the 11% rebate
I worked for a Menards in Central Illinois for 22 years quitting in May of 2020. I don't shop there much don't need a lot but I buy my cat litter there buy 6 40 lb boxes when on sale
My sister canned a bunch of cabbage one year. It was pretty good
We make Rueben sandwiches with the corned beef. It is delicious.

my freebie this morning (saturday) was bacon.. and their ground beef was on sale for 3 lb chub for 8.97 (its not organic or anything but works for the sloppy joe, sgetti sauce kind of things) when i did my savings on the receipt i saved 47. and change on my order i spent 124 but i also had it delivered and had to do instacart.. i prefer having kroger blue truck but that was available until late tonight.. love your videos here in cincinnati oh.. and i like seeing you talk about the deals.. although the prices really are a little different from state to state lol
Walmart has their great value 40 count tea for 4 boxes for 10.72. So that's 160 count total. Has to be shipped to you but it's a good deal. Free shipping for Walmart plus or 35 dollars or more. Our dollar tree no longer carries their green tea bags. We are in West texas
I'm curious how you fix your sprouts? I use them mostly fresh and pan fry them with bacon, and add heavy cream and parmeson cheese. My mother boiled them and added a weird topping of buttered bread crumbs. I never liked them. Anyway...My husband just came home with two huge stalks of sprouts so now I have to decide if I want to blanch and freeze quite a few but not sure how to fix them then. Can you help?
If you lived closer I'd invite you to share in our Jonathan apples. We have 2 trees and always have more than I can get done. We give away a lot. But they are so good I wouldn't know what else to use if I couldn't get them.
Janice I’ve eaten canned corned beef since I was a kid. It’s not nearly the same as fresh corned beef. And the brand makes a huge difference. Libby’s or Hormel is much better than the store brand. I’m not a brand name user of most items but corned beef is one that is definitely worth paying for a national brand. They all are kind of fatty and salty but I make hash out of it with a bunch of fried potatoes, or put it on rye bread with stone ground mustard. Or I make corned beef patties. Mix 1/4 to cup bread crumbs, 1/4 cup finely diced onion, 1 egg per can of corned beef. Make into 4 patties. Fry in oil until well browned on both sides. Drain excess oil on paper towels or a rack. I hope you like the brand you bought but if you find it really fatty and greasy, try the name brand before you write it off entirely!
The corn beef we add potato like a stew and serve over rice

Dollar GENERAL has 20 count green tea bags for $1.25 :) Walmart has a great value 40 count for 2.68 so it is only .18 more than if you bought two from one of the dollar stores.
I don’t buy the Walmart chips because here in Arizona they have a cancer warning on them. Not sure if it’s the same everywhere! Just thought I’d mention it.

The canned corned beef makes good soup with some boiled potatoes with onion powder and salt and pepper.
Add some cabbage, carrots too and have a feast 😊

canned corn beef is very salty so when your making it in a meal dont add extra salt until you almost finished cooking it, cook it up in a frying pan ..... i cook up elbow macaroni and ketchup or tomatoe sauce then add it to the corned beef cook it all in a frying pan its good i add very spicy stuff to it but you guys dont like heat hugssssssss

I scored yesterday at Frys aka Kroger. Sausage spicy and jalapeño cheese 16 oz $2.49 bought 4. Meatballs 2.5 lbs $3.66. Bought 4. These were on clearance. Also had chuck roast $3.77 lb. Bought 2.
Prices are still going to go crazy because of the weather in certain parts of the country.
Such as peanut butter because Georgia got to much rain for the peanut crop.
Up here in central United States, we had and are still having drought.
Same with wheat products. The weather messed up it's production.

I am very vocal about my dislike for Walmart. A friend wanted to go there yesterday and it was first time I had been in a Walmart in over 2 years. I looked for the Keystone canned meat to put into my long term food storage while we were there. They didn't have the ground beef but I picked up a couple of cans of the shredded beef.

Add Clow slaw mix for egg roll in a bowl instead of you chopping up all of vegetables add extra veggies if you like
We have Grocery Outlet. Aldis is 20 miles away. I scored chopped green chili's 7 oz cans 2 for dollar holy cow. Dummy only bought a case. We are going back! I love a bargain!
