Hi! I just want to thank you to show this to the world! I am from Catania even if I now live in Liverpool UK since 2013. I miss my hometown so much and see this video warmed my heart 💓. Catania has got so much to offer but too often the bad reputation only comes up, so thank you thank you thank you for this! I subscribed your channel and I will share the video!
To me the most beautiful town on earth; vibrant, friendly, interesting arts, architecture, music, dance, delicious food everywhere, easy to meet new friends etc. I haven‘t been there for a few years now and i am kind of home sick...
Thanks for the great walk Pro Walk tours. I have never traveled outside my own country. It struck me that compared to here in Australia where it is getting dark about 6 pm it is so different to see how light out it still is in Sicily at a later time of night and how many people are still out walking and not even starting to settle for the evening. So interesting to see how differently people live in other countries to my own.
Piazza del Duomo is my favourite part of the city (and also the amphitheatre) It really is magical. I love to see people dancing Tango in the square. Thank you for this fantastic video and all of your videos!!

Hey, thanks so much! I have a 4-hour walk of Catania I'll be posting up next. I'm still working on the captions though. It should be ready soon. Thanks for watching.
Etnea street is not only beautiful but is also extraordinary for the scents of typical diner products coming from all the bars located all along the street
Hey, that's great. This weekend I'll be posting up a 4 hour Catania walk. Here is a link to route I walked: www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1bgFUxoU3RnHNBwjW197iYXIkEPCvUPPM&usp=sharing
Thanks for that. You walked right past a restaurant in an alley that I ate at. Great memories. I love your stuff and promote you a lot on FB and left donations in the past and will again in the future.
Yeah, this is the main street for the evening stroll. Part of it is closed to traffic just for that reason....but the rest of the city is still full of cars. :)
Grazie per questo splendido video, sono posti che non vedo da anni..... I miei genitori sono proprio originari di Catania e conoscono via per via.... Complimenti per la qualità video.. Grazie
Hey, glad you found it. I'm sure I missed a lot and it would have looked a lot different during a normal summer...but I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it.
I did a video of catania exactly like that of catania a couple of years ago, 1 hour silent walk but also of the seaside on the other side, but never uploaded it unfortunately, Great to see this 🙏🏻
Fantastic work as always! Thank you for another intriguing video tour. I enjoy learning about Italian cities. Your closed captions are also very helpful. 😊👍
O my fucking god the sound is amazing. Listening with ear phones and I swear its real I don’t know how many channels or what you use but it is soo real!!! I hear it all around me.
Hey, glad you noticed it. I'm not sure how to get more people to realize the benefit of watching these with headphones. Pretty cool though. If I record something in my living room when people are talking and then listen to the recording, you can't tell it's a recording...just sounds like exactly how it sounded originally.
I guess Catania is to Palermo as Birmingham is to London, the second-largest city in Sicily. I visited there in 1982, but with the exception of Piazza Duomo, it did not hold a candle to either Palermo or Siracusa. Of the three cities, Siracusa is the best, with archaeological sites of Greek/Roman ruins found at nearly every corner, and the Old City of Ortygia, on its own Island just over a short stretch of water from the Sicilian mainland. Definitely worth a walking tour!
I have a 4 hour Catania walk coming up next. I took a long tour of the Roman Theater. It is closed at night btw. I also filmed the Amphitheater in the piazza as well.
Hi, this was a really fun video to watch! Lots of familiar sights. However, on our TV it's a little choppy during pans (compared to the day walk). Is that due to the lower light levels? And did you boost the brightness in-camera or in post?
Hey, glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, for part of the video I added an effect to remove some of the noise from the image. it works well when walking straight ahead but does sometimes make the panning shots look less smooth. I always film in flat mode so the camera is not doing any image enhancement on its own. I do my best to make things look as close to the original look as possible but sometimes it doesn't match.
I love northern Italy, but you've shown that I need to spend some time down south too! One question - do you put in a lot of planning time before doing your walks? or do you just head out the door and get lucky with all the amazing scenery and vibrant street life?
I didn't think so....but it was during Covid and there were zero tourists so I was able to stay at airbnbs that would otherwise be booked. In general though, no, not too expensive.
I have watched many of your Pro Walks tours on Italy. I always wondered why are there so much Graffiti. I noticed the same thing in other european cities. Why is that ?
Hi I'm from Catania, the city shown in the video.. Our city is very alive and also kind of "chaotic", so it's very common to have graffiti on the street (I know, it's not something very good to have, expecially close to historical buildings)
Yeah, I almost didn't post the video because of that. The frame rate of my camera and the flicker rate of the lights were out of sync. I should have been filming at 50fps instead of 60fps.
Well, its just me and I live in Naples and right now we can't even move between towns. I'll add Algete to my Spain list of walks though that I'm planning.
You missed, or maybe just skipped, the most important monuments in Catania after the Dom, as you reached Stesicoro square on your right: the ruins from the underground of the Roman city and San Biagio Church.
I spent 3 weeks there in Catania back in 1977. Had a wonderful time.
Thank you, I lived 10 years in Catania...it is just magic...how many memories, best years of my life...I cryed now that I live in Norway...

I love how everyone is out walking instead of riding in cars like here in the US.
There are many cities in the US where people walk: NYC, Boston, San Francisco are good examples
99% of antique Sicilian (italian) roads and street are made for pedestrian only
That's because you haven't seen the rest of the city!
