I remember the time when the el/ Market-Frankford Line trains were less rounded on the sides. The were more flat, similar to the Broad Street Orange subway trains. They were just the silver color and had even less blue on the outside. The transportation has clearly upgraded in the last few decades. I am sure they looked even more different before I was born, but I do remember how they looked just before they moved onto their current design.
The Frankford side of the line was completely rebuilt between 1998-2003. Frankford Transportation Center opened in 2004 in the spot where the bus lanes used to be. Unlike the Market side that was completely rebuilt from the ground up, the Frankford side was just redocked. the decks still rest on the original 1920s pillars. which proved to be more cost effective but it caused a design flaw.
There is CCTV cameras that trigger when the train enters the station. it activates the screen in the cab so the operator can see the platform completely without opening the window. SEPTA is pretty much the only transit authority that I know of that has this system in place. 2:47 you can see the camera.

Rode the EL many times, mostly as a kid. Good job on the video!

To be honest the 7 train in NYC is more fun to ride but I do like how the El has a driver's view...

The cab is not full width. What does the driver do when the doors open on the other side?

It might be a blue city, but NOBODY calls it the 'blue subway'.
They simply call it 'The El'.
Not true. Sometimes it's called the Blue Line
It is true they call it the 'El'
The EL Train is more fun, I think we should expand our SEPTA Subways as well.
There was plans to do so but they were cut for budget reasons. It could kick start the city and give people jobs if they did though.
There's always the Boulevard extension to the BSL... That thing just can't die.
It's so quiet
