    1. Tires are 0ractically kryptonite to melee weapons. They are a web like latticework of steel cords interwoven and coated in rubber thats designed to withstand both highspeed cuts, abbrassives and flexion.
    2. All ur power goes into deforming the tire, not a true test, u wud absolutely pierce the sidewall of the tire, there is no steel wire there just rubber under pressure, the pressure will give you spear a chance to penetrate, soft rubber will just flex.
    3. Thats not a throwing spear, its closer to a javelin, a bad one. Its half a spear, twice the downsides none of the upsides.
    4. Spears are thrown in two cases, its a skirmisher throwing a javelin in offenses to weigh down defender shields, and defensively before retreat to drag down enemy shields allowing friendly archers to grt em.

    • @gideonsstuff
      @gideonsstuff  24 дня назад

      Yeah tires are super tough, but I saw one lying and there and thought "Why not?"

    420 is NOT an upgrade from 3cr13. Regular 420 only has about 0.15% carbon while 3cr13 has about 0.3% carbon.
    420HC is an entirely different steel and is similar to 5cr14 or so.
    But of course toughness is more important than edge retention in heavy weapons like spears, so 3cr13 or 420 do okay in such heavy weapons. A mid-carbon alloy like 1050 would be best for toughness with some edge retention if not over-hardened. Sort of like axe steel - 1045 to 5160 territory.

    • @gideonsstuff

      You're right. I assumed 420HC, and it's probably 420J2. A true carbon steel would be the best choice. Thanks for watching!👍

This provides a legal alternative implement for them to use as they struggle to survive in the post apocalyptic environment. :)

Soft targets would be a better choice for that spear. I feel it would be good for camping or hiking as a protective tool against bears, mountain lions, or other big wild animals. First of all, the sides of the blade on a spear are not supposed to be very sharp. Its a thrusting weapon, not a slashing weapon so the edge on it is exactly as it should be. Now I have to say that I own and USE one of these for hunting armadillos on a golf course that I work at. I can throw it about 10 or 15 yards with about 85 percent accuracy. I can throw it further than that, but the accuracy drops significantly after about 15 yards.
