oikoumenē meaning all the inhabited world, known to the writer, is a clear indication that this did not happen. Are you saying that only the jews were to be judged by Jesus in the oikoumenē (inhabited world)? This did NOT include gentiles? This would have to be the case for these verses concerning the church of Philadelphia to be true. Paul makes it clear that Christ's coming judgment includes both jews and Gentiles. This seems to be a problem to the full preterist position. Rather, it appears as a failed expectation.
Yes, according to the NT the gospel has gone out to the whole world, meaning the world they knew. The problem has everything to do with that both Jew and Gentile were to be judged. There is no evidence that unbelieving gentiles ever faced judgment! To this day, the judgment of Jerusalem and the temple have had minimal to no impact on anyone not connected to this event. In addition, rabbinic juidaism went on to survive in the Roman empire. In summary, there were many Gentiles who had no knowledge of Jesus who could have cared less about Covenants and the status of temple Juidaism. In addition, saying Jesus "returned" in 70 a.d. is just a theological belief. It has no real impact on the historical event involving the Roman conquest. In fact, because of this event, Josephus actually identifies Vespasian as being the fulfillment of the Jewish prophecies concerning the expected ruler.
Just some thoughts regarding your statement. The war was not only conducted upon Jerusalem, but throughout the region, where many people cast out the Jews in their city, decimating the region and economy when the brutality of war effects everyone whether they are fighting or not. Jerusalem was just the pinnacle of the war, showing that God had rejected the animal sacrificial form of worship, and everything that comes with that. For 4000 years that had been the accepted and primary approach to God because of Adam, and now this event changed the course of history for all mankind, removing the curse of the flesh from Adam(Animal covering/atonement) allowing all men now to approach and cleanse their soul. That was a definitive turning point In History, altering mankind’s approach and worship because of that judgment on the whole region. If we take Babylon as Jerusalem In Rev 17 and 18, then you can see the devastating effects upon the people in that time period. Do I believe a million Jews died because of this war as Josephus states? Not sure. But you have to think of both sides fighting, casualties for all, innocent bystanders who were effected, plus the last and final specific curse upon the land directed by God which is a devastating notion for those people who knew they had been cursed by God upon their defeat knowing Deut 28 and Lev 26.
In fact, this is not the place and this is not the land. The Holy Land, the Kingdom of Judea and Samaria, the sites of the events of the Torah, the stories of the prophets, the birth and crucifixion of Christ, all happened in another place and in a completely different region. History is different from what is imagined. I have important information about this and Maybe what I have could change a lot and re-read history as we know it.
Amazing truth, thkq
I'm more in the "short season" camp but I do love the discussion and breakdowns of the passages. Thank you!
