Larry could always take a good shot and fire back .... Until he met Tyson that is. This Holmes would probably have beaten Tyson. A style remenicent of Buster Douglas, who was formidable (for one night only of course)
Anyone can go down with a big punch to the head, or body. Cooper knocked Ali down, Walcott and Moore knocked Marciano down. Holmes was clearly the better fighter here from round 1.
Snipes and the crowd were understandably upset with the ref stopping the match, but after Holmes nailed Snipes with that wicked straight right, Snipes wasn't fighting back and wasn't defending himself from the Holmes onslaught. When the referee saw that happening, the match was over.
It was my 1st heavyweight championship bout and I was there (at the Civic Arena) to shoot with my Nikon...and got a great shot of Larry going down having a perfect angle (with the 7th round knockdown) and was so excited to get the shot (which I sold to the owner of a bar who hated Holmes and was happy to display it at the bar)...and Rinaldo's smile that followed the knockdown.
Massive Credit to Larry ...like the Shavers fight the knockdown was in the early stages of the Round ...lot of time remaining but he managed to survive and recover...Only the Greatests can do it...
Pretty sure that Don King had something to do with it. The match had gone on longer than he probably wanted it to, and Holmes should've put Snipes away in the 5th round. This fight was weirdly similar to Ali vs Lyle in '75, and both matches ended in 11th round TKOs.
Marciano versus Mike Tyson in is prime ! I will take Marciano Mike Tyson couldn’t go past 10 round , against Rocky will just get warmed up and the 10th round nonstop punch machine with his granite chin and that Susie Q . Of a right hand in his prime.

American audiences were always bloodthirsty and were never happy when the ref jumped in to save a fighter. Prime time Holmes was awesome!

HOLMES was a GREAT FIGHTER....but he was VULNERABLE to getting nailed "OUT of the BLUE" and going down !!!

That was a wicked knock down shot by Snipes but Larry was great in this fight.
Snipes had got the same boxing skills than Chris Bird.
I love Larry but his knees buckled he was gone!!! They only stopped the fight because of big money Cooney fight which was next!
