- from the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, NY, moderator Bud Poliguin talks with Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson about their fight together and the sport of boxing.
Recorded live at the public event on June 4, 2014 Спорт
Larry Holmes fought everyone put in front of him, unlike the champs now in the heavyweight division . 70's, 80's, and 90's those were some golden times in the heavyweight division.
The most underappreciated champion ever. Those really were golden times for the heavyweights too. If you'd like to relive those times, Id appreciate if you'd check out these chronologies of the 70s and 90s.
70s: ruclips.net/video/GVFTTtRYTYc/видео.html
90s: ruclips.net/video/q-4F5wwTKWo/видео.html
Unlike that Tyson fury mug a bum he is
Larry holmes is def top 5 … his style was just so good
@damonp357 ...The 'seventies is the Golden Era of the heavyweight division.
Larry vs foreman
Mike Tyson has done a lot of work on himself and is one of the best examples of a person turning it all around.
Yea right🤣
In every sense
Interviewer:"Mike, what was the punch you remember most?"
Mike:"The punch I remember most was the one that I didnt see coming"
As in boxing, as in life.
❤Mike Tyson
I see you on most of the Mike Tyson interviews and podcasts that I discover - even the super rare ones - and it's clear that you're a superfan like me, lol. Much love to you, brother.
@@NotebookLives Hey, exactly same to you bro 👍
Larry Holmes is a legend! Mad underated!!!
Top 2 heavyweights since Ali.
Yes
He brags about beating a guy(Ali) who was sick(parkinsons).
Yep, Larry in his day was a bad dude for real
He couldn't beat ali in his prime, that's why he was ali sparring partner, anyone could tell you larry was no ali. However, he was a great fighter in his own right, and is a legend of the division. I dont know why he carried the ali thing around for so long.
Mike is so humble now, love him more than ever
Such a respectful interview with two of the greatest names in boxing, but I died when Holmes said “ my arms got caught in the ropes and you know what I said... aw shit”.😂😂😂
Larry Holmes seems like such a cool guy.
Yess sur i can see it clarely
Mike, you've become a real class act.
Mike Tyson is so inspiring to me. a humble killer. intelligent and vicious. the code of a true warrior. the way of the samurai.
So you wanna bite someones ear
+Marcho Reyes maybe a younger mike eh? before he turned bad
+Marcho Reyes You must not know much about Mike?
+Marcho Reyes holyfield was dirty
Not dirty. His defense just involved pulling his chin into his chest (instead of raising his gloves) and walking into his opponent to cut him off. The result, a lot of headbutts.
Holmes was an amazing boxer. He's one of my favorites.
Tyson is one of the realist cats on earth.
@It's Alex You are a cornball. You don't speak the language.
@@nottherealender U r a 🔲
The coolest thing about Mike Tyson is he never gives you a bland, run of the mill answer when asked a question, there is always honesty and thought in his answers. So refreshing when most athletes give you the uninteresting scripted , predictable answers.
I'm impressed by how respectful and humble Mike Tyson is. He doesn't prop himself up or pretend to be perfect. He's real and honest. He's also one of the baddest cats to ever step in the ring. There was a time when I couldn't stand the guy, but now I admire the man. Awesome champion.
Same. I was never a fan until after he retired. Now I'm a huge fan.
why? did u get brainwashed by the media?@@ShenState
So proud of the new mike continue success God Bless 🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊
Tyson a true gentleman good heart great champion. a humble human being
haydar H Desiree Washington would not agree?
Thomas Quinn; Desiree Washington may not agree, but that’s, absolutely, not the sum of everything. Not to defend or, in any way, attempt to extenuate the actions of a young and exuberant Mike, but who knows what actually happened. Remember that he fired his promoter, Bill Clayton, who was collaborating with Robin Givens and her mother, Ruth Roper, to exploit him. Remember that they frustrated him, so much, to the extent that he was thought mental. If you’re not too young, you will remember an interview he had together with his then wife, Robin, when they, corroboratively, made him to take some psychotropic medication, to make him appear psychotic. In that interview, he appeared delusional, and rambled. It was after the ensuing divorce that he fired Bill Clayton, subsequently, firing his Trainer, Kevin Rooney, for protesting the firing of Cayton. I tell this story, to say that Mike, subsequently, filled his camp, with his Home Boys, who failed to give him enough protection and guidance, thereby, allowing the allegation, to even occur. The poor, vulnerably guy was from the rough streets of Bedstuy, in Brooklyn, remember? Such promising individuals are treated like an asset and, vigorously, protected by their camps or exploiters, to the extent that they monitor his activities, especially, when with women, by positioning themselves, even in the closet. This was lacking, because those boys were his buddies, who were not experienced enough or just not able to control, and adored him. If he, actually, did abuse the young lady, they could have stopped it, before it happened, if the necessary precautions had been taken. He could have been either set up or framed, occasioned by an opposing camp, who might not even mind, poisoning him. Some of her fellow beauty contestants stated that the girl came back to their hostel, after the date with Mike, excited. It was only afterwards, when she must have been advised, that she came up with the rape allegation. On the whole, even though the prison term spelt his downfall, as a boxer, he surely came out, a better person that he is, today - a good husband of a beautiful wife, and Doctor, a good father, to his children and one of the most loved celebrities of recent phenomenon.
Humility in spades from both of these guys, true champions both of them.
Larry Holmes was a great champion, no doubt about that; my beef with him is his consistent refusal to acknowledge Mohammed Ali's greatness, and indeed superiority, simply because he was Ali's sparring partner when he was younger. He talks proudly about beating Ali when Ali was 38, old and retired and uses that to dismiss Ali's greatness, however he uses the same age and retirement to excuse his loss to a younger Tyson when he, holmes was 38 and retired. Nobody who understands boxing would ever say that Holmes could stand a chance against an Ali in his prime. Larry Holmes should exercise some humility and give respect to whom respect is due, familiarity breeds contempt.
Adejuwon Anjoorin If Homes had to face Ali of 1967 , he would be humiliated.
Completely humiliated, my friend.
Adejuwon Anjoorin Please read Holmes book. Holmes credits Ali for allowing him to be his sparring partner. It goes both ways. Ali was not humble. Ali kept telling people that Holmes was still his sparring partner. Ali could never give his student credit. After the Holmes vs. Scott Ledoux fight, Ali started bashing Holmes to the crowd and called him a peanut on Merv Griffin. Holmes could have thrown the righthand and sent Ali to the hospital. After the fight with Cosell, Holmes cried about beating his teacher on national TV. He did not celebrate with wine and Cool & the Gang playing in the background.
Jonathan White
Holmes said that Ali never really trained that hard for his fights, and the fight in Zaire he only put a solid 2 weeks in. He said that had Ali been training like he should have, Ali would have been even greater than what he was.
As a man...I'd never say anyone is /was better than me publicly. Save that for the peanut gallery to say.
Mike Tyson is a legend above all today's fighters. And I respect him even more for the greater man his become. Respect
Love seeing these interviews of Mike looking and feeling relaxed and happy with his life in general after all the ups and downs he's had to endure early on in his life. His Legacy will go on for as long as this World continues to exist
Nice to see Mike smiling.
I think the real amazing thing here isn’t that Larry was 38, it’s that Tyson was able to destroy men like Holmes when he was only 21!!
Two amazing legends, love both these guys. Holmes was the first fighter i really liked as a kid and Tyson is my all time hero.
Great to see them as friends and both in a happy place in their lives.
bull man I love Holmes, but respect Tyson. Two of the greatest heavyweights of the 1980s.
two legends side by side it doesn't get any better than this so glad to see Mike mellow respectful and humbled in his life now in his prime he was a warrior !
its great to have the name on my record ! but everybody knows Larry Holmes was a legendary fighter ,and if he was at his best I coudn`t stand a chance he`s a great fighter!!!
Those are Mike Tyson’s own words after the Holmes fight fuckface
Thank you for the great video. Really enjoyed the full version of these two legends.
prime Holmes is a top 5 heavyweight
+ThatIncredibleJordan no hes not lol
Pablo Enrique explain
+Mario Zelda Metroid pprobably top 10 but top 5 is really pushing it
+Mario Zelda Metroid Absolutely he is. Holmes was big, clever, talented and durable. Easily top 5.
Thatincrediblejordan ever
Mike Tyson is one of the best fighters of all time . I love Tyson and I wish him the best
Just Beautiful,Memory Lane.
Two Great Living Legends.
Love It. Peace and Love!!!.
it is great to see and hear these guys to gether
Mike Tyson before a fight would lose temper and was vicious in the ring of course BUT he is so humble outside of the ring and respectful to people who he looks up to.
Two great legends.
"$3.5 million? Where's Mike at?" Lol
Such a great interview, amazing to watch
15 minutes in and enjoying very much, thanks for posting
If Tyson had been this mature when he was younger and fighting, he would have been greater, of course.
Дмитрий .Беляев That's wrong buddy. Tyson could be just as fierce with his acquired wisdom and maturity
DA Espada Tyson would've made money if he was like this! Please know that he not a great fighter not GREAT!
He was extremely mature up until he was falsely convicted of rape. Let’s see how long you keep your cool after that.....
He will remain the most famous and entertaining boxer of all time even after centuries!
billy giles exactly
thank you for sharing this special video of these true legends
The two gents who ruled 80's boxing
Mike Tyson us a great inspiration for these young guys. This has a love now not only for himself but life itself ......GREAT MAN
One of the most intelligent and insightful interview I have ever seen!
Two great guys great interview
Great interview with two legendary boxers. Awesome
Larry Holmes in his prime fought Muhammed Ali past his prime.
Mike tyson in his prime fought Larry Holmes past his prime.
Lennox Lewis in his prime fought Tyson past his prime. Then fought one more mandatory Vitali Klitschko then retired before it would happen to him.
Vitali then retired rather than face Haye, he learnt from Lennox. Wlad may also retire rather than face Tyson Fury.
WTF???Dara McC Haye never faced Vitali. He fought Wlad and lost in embarrassing fashion. Only person Haye retired is himself since 2012.
Dara McC Bitch
georgyfontaine28 lewis wasnt in his prime when he fought mike, he was coming off knockout losses not that long before and he was actually OLDER than Mike.
Mike tyson is younger than lennox lewis and please dont compare the difference of ages between tyson/ holmes and holmes/ ali, ali is seven years older than ali, tyson is 17 years younger than holmes
Am honoured to be watching great champions like Larry and Mike decades after telling the world how it all happened.
I find myself smiling with admiration for both of these guys.
My number one and two favorite heavyweight boxers. Thanks for posting this!
Thx for the upload!
To view and hear Larry's Boxing Hall of Fame induction speech, from June 8, 2008, RUclips: Larry Holmes Hall of Fame.
This is one of the finest motivational and human interest speeches I have been privileged to hear (and I attended the ceremony) in my lifetime. Larry has a wonderfully helpful message which everyone should hear. Enjoy it, it will uplift you and make your day.
And thanks again, Larry, for your inspiration.
Larry Holmes is funny as hell lol. Not a lot of guys can laugh about some of their biggest losses, that shows a lot of character
Tyson remains a fascinating character to this day.
Mike I simply love you, you are great champion
Is good to visit Africa specially Ghana they love to much..
U
I remember their fight as if only last week, ive just rewatched it again prior to viewing this, now on with the show fight fans
two great fighters an two very charasmatic dudes ,,
the thing with these two guys .. is they are just as enertaining to watch talking as they were to watch fighting .. gotta love em
you goddam right, you gotta love it!!
holmes was a great fighter best jab ive ever seen
I think Mikes life makes a great story of how a man can come from nothing to be so great and lose it all and to come back to be a far greater man than anyone could have ever thought he could be!
You are so bright and right.
Mike and Larry are one of the greatest! Definitely love them%100! Much respect for both of them! God bless!
Two great legends
2 legend.
Mike Tyson at 22 vs Larry Holmes at 28. Would've been a great fight.
for 3 rounds. holmes goes to bed.
nope, it would go all the way with tyson winning a close decision
mario perez Even less maybe...
6immob66 would have loved to see these two meet at their absolute peaks. Homes had size, a ramrod jab and granite chin, Tyson had speed, movement and fearsome power. It might have gone down to who could take the better shot.
Yes that makes sense as seeing as Holmes lasted 4 rounds when he was well past it and unready! Tyson as dangerous as he was, struggled against top quality fighters who came to fight.
The two era's of heavyweight dominance post Ali. Two of the greatest of all time. Man do I miss those days !!
Mike Tyson is a legend and has the mind of a warrior. Excuse me THE warrior mindset that's one in a million
Kings of the ring and also legends outside the ring. Tyson is champion of airplane brawls and Larry Holmes scored one of his greatest knockouts dropkicking Trevor Berbick from the hood of a limousine🤣
2 great heavyweights. Larry had a solid 2nd career after fighting Tyson. Would have loved to see him and Foreman fight in the 90s. They talked about it but it never happened.
Two of my favorite boxers! Larry Holmes is so underrated! Tyson is my favorite then Homles is a close #2. I wish we could know more biographical info on Holmes. He seems very interesting.
2 of the all time greats n boxing's great characters with lots ov respect for each other.lovely too see years later.how anyone cud say larry holmes wasnt a great fighter, obviously doesn't know much about boxing.7 years at the top n 48 straight wins speaks for its self.
Tyson is greath man
So much love n respect
Im so glad Mike found hapiness. A lot of these rich pricks that just have everything handed to them and have NO respect for the struggles and difficulties other people face, I have little respect for them, but Mike had every good reason to end up a looser, prostitute mom, missing father, raised poor, low self esteem, all the wrong friends and yet he choose to make something of himself. Just keeping your head above water is hard enough in this life, so to excel at such at high level, coming from nothing, I have nothing but respect for.........all these guys who fight their way out of poverty. Wishing you all the happiness in the world Mike, whatever that might be for you.
Mike tyson was a killer in that ring, plus a good man outside of the ring...plus hes madd funny, will have u cracking up all day....
Imagine Tyson vs Fraizer
Frazier rest in piece will not have a chance with a guy like Mike
Tyson KOs Frazier second round.
I've always imagined Iron Mike vs sonny liston
I like Tyson but he wouldn't stand a chance with prime Frazier.
frazier
Legends
it's amazing two legends come together. with no hard feelings. make peace and laugh about legendary fight they had. that's how boxing should be. what was done was just business.🤣💯
but mike told Ali at the age of 15 when he happened to receive Ali's phone call one day after Ali larry holmes fight mike was all crying i would take your revenge and damn he did
I'm amazed by Mike's level of consciousness. I liked him when he was a boxer but now I really like his cause, what he stands for. Because really he shows America how hard it's for a black person to make it. Boxing isn't the main topic really, boxing is just the mean to get from point A to point B. The main issue is the various obstacles a young black person faces in life.
Glad I looked this up after just watching the fight.
That looked devastating, glad Holmes weren't hurt and nice to see this.
Mike Tyson such a humble man. Great Man! Larry Holmes shows so much respect to all historical fighters. Legend
Lenny Jackson Holmes never had respect for anybody. He just wants to be loved and he will never be. Watch the difference and listen about the fight they remember best. Holmes said Norton cause he won and... Well you know... Mike said Buster Douglas and explained why. A classy man and an asshole in that studio that evening.
Good to see these guys doing well. Its hard to compare fighters from different eras. Who achieved more? Larry achieved more than almost any other HW. Larry had greatness and longevity. Could he beat Mike in their primes? I dont think so. Styles make fjghts, too. But Larry still ranks higher in my GOAT HW list. Buster beat Tyson, but would not make anyones top 20. Tyson spiraled down after Cus' death. His title win was basically the last influence of Cus' work. I imagine what he could have accomplished had he had Cus' guidance throughout his career.
Larry is a legend, I am a big fan and I respect him because he always took care of his family and himself. Mike is an extraordinary person.
That guy that asked Mike the question about acting. He was right,That scene with mike and robert downey junior was brilliant.Best part of the movie
I even use your story in my class room at DEAN CLOSE SCHOOL.in Cheltenham England.. and I call that module "fight to the end"
I love hearing true champs tell their stories
Can't make out a damn word, but appreciate the upload
Love ya Larry......I think about you too sometimes.....Mike......Larry is #1 on my top 10 list.....
Loved to hear these two boxing greats talk together years later. Love to hear frankly, in Larry’s case admit, it was about the money. But regardless, I’m a life long fan. Unlike other sports, which I’ve lost respect for.
Why do a lot of people call Ali the greatest? I dont want to take anything away from him but i truly believe no heavyweight from the past or the current would beat a prime Tyson.
they call him the greatest because not only of his in prime greatness but his longevity
Only because he had a loud mouth and became a public favorite, because he wasn't the greatest
Ali was so skilled and have unmatched Chen
Ali fought guys who hit harder than mike Tyson and took the hit
Ali hands and foot speed was something you probably will never see again in the heavyweight division
Ali fought the best fighters in the boxing history from Forman to Frazier to sonny Liston and the list goes on and on and he beat all of them
Ali never get knockout unlike Tyson and Holmes
You all need to learn and watch some 70’s matches before you open your mouth loud in the comment section
And now what Mike Tyson faced ? They good fighters that he faced he lost to
I’m mike Tyson fan but holy shit his fan are the most delusional fans I have ever seen in my life
delft dirk that’s true, I agree
Delft Dirk, because iron mike said he would've lost to Ali
What I wouldn't give to personally witness Larry Holmes run on top of a car and hit Trevor Berbic with a flying ninja kick. lol.
haha better than wrestling lol yell
Tyson is an amazing guy. He hadn't taken many beatings, and has turned his life into being a father, and husband. He has amassed some wealth and income. This is after losing everything, probably numerous times. He's not crazy rich like he used to be, but he has a wealth of knowledge, and a lovely family. That is, exactly what he needs, from an emotional standpoint. He earns enough to provide. IF smart , not get into tax trouble. I did some amateur boxing and was poor as a kid. Not as poor as him, or, living in Brownsville Brooklyn. Our surroundings will shape us. Kids without daddies will eventually find there own way. They see what is around them and try to be that, or not that. Many have no choice. That's why so many spend their life in and out of jail and prison. They can get into boxing clubs like these guys did. There you get direction, discipline, respect and time off the street. You become a family.
One thing about Mike....
Beung Humble by uplifting everyone that's involve
Where yat Holmes! What up Mike!
Great stuff gentleman!
No one is like mike for me no one!!! He is just amazing!
Mike just a humble man.
Tyson's humility is always refreshing. What fight meant the most to you? Larry: the fight that made me champ. Mike: the first time I lost. (Mind you, I love Holmes)
Two true champions.
I Love You Mike!
Why is it whenever we have these rare occasions where absolute legends of their field are together the person who is in charge of asking questions manages to find the most unrelated unnecessary and bland series of questions possible
ali was 38 and the intro of parkinson
I didn't know he was that young when it started
Legends.
After watching soo many Tyson fight I would have to be out of my mind to want to step in the ring with him, he was vicious, his technique was flawless until he change trainers, even at 16 he was amazing fighter an could've went pro then.
When mike said it’s all objective and that he had no mercy on his opponent because it’s not personal. Imagine if it was him fighting Ali instead of Holmes that night. That would of been real sad because Ali would of been murdered in front of the world and knocked out cold in humiliating brutal fashion.
10:21 thats very interesting and would had cause maybe an another ending of the fight. Both admit that Holmes uppercut was caught in the ropes as tyson come in.
Larry went on another run like Foreman, good thing Don King did knock on his door....
He did it in half the time-- him beating Mercer was crazy. Foreman and Holmes being able to stomp around with the best of the 90s era proved how insane their era was.
Great men.
“Imma pay you 3 and a half million dollars” “ok where Mike at” lol
