Tyson lost to Henry Tillman (twice) in the Olympic trials, not Biggs. He had lost to Biggs earlier in the year in the Super-Heavyweight (201+) division, but fought in the trials and made it all the way to the finals before losing to Tillman in the heavyweight division which had a limit of 201 pounds. He did get revenge on both in the pros. The Biggs fight in particular was brutal.

I met Mitch Green yrs. later on the W. 116th St. IRT # 2 train station @ 2 AM. I was the subway clerk & Green was the ex boxer & celebrity asking for a free ride. I was very happy to oblige & I assured him that he would someday be back on top of the boxing ratings. I called him "Champ" & told him that anytime he appeared on the station, I would be more than happy to "let him slide". I really felt that this was the least I could do for a guy who had the "cojones" to fight the great Tyson in the streets of Harlem @ 3 AM. Maybe he wasn't the big boxing pro that he had once been, but he was a person who deserved respect & support during his periods of experiencing life's failures. I was very proud to meet him & help him out.

I dont agree with Teddy Atlas. Tyson was the right character for a champion, he was simply a victim to the circumstances in his life. If Cus and Kevin were still around in the early 90's i think many experts would rate him as at least top 5 of all time, right up there with Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis and Julio Cesar Chavez.

It was just hard to watch this. Mike had unmatched potential.
But I think once out in the big world and having lost a family and the people he wanted, he needed, and truly deserved, - a criminal element - one that he really wasn't ready for, did what the most rotten do to great potential, potential that Mike both deserved - and earned - the selfish big-time criminals ruined him.
If only Mike had stayed with the real honest people and family he deserved and needed,
the sky would have been his limit.
Mike said: 'that I'm now married to all these people, and I was never married to myself'
Absolutely, Mike was spot-on when he said that.
Mike had powerful potential - and he was robbed. But personally, when I really think about it - Mike's 'potential' is unmatched by any 'reality' of any past pro.
That my opinion. So regardless - Mike will always be the greatest.
    It makes me mad.

Anything and everything about really gets me emotional. This guy worked his ass off to get to where he is. Mike is a humane and humble guy and not all this negatives that the media want us to swallow hook, line and sinker. Kid dynamite, Iron Mike Tyson to me you are still the primus interpares by miles.

Mike was always ahead of the curve. In all seriousness those mushrooms and such will make you face every side of yourself good and bad. Mike was always special mentally he was such a freak as a boxer it goes unnoticed. I love the man and am so happy he has made it through and is thriving now. I was born in 91 but it still feels like a looong journey to me.

lol Teddy Atlas first line of the film (Tyson was never meant to be a great champion"
Anyone else think Teddy is a bitter old man who is just angry that he didn't get to go along for the ride during Tyson Mania? Instead he trained that paper champion Michael Moorer who isn't even mentioned in any discussion about great heavyweights

Alvalanker Highwind Atlas never tells the whole story of Mike, only the parts that he feels are justified by his bitterness. Name one great champion, anyone who prospered and fulfilled their potential and sustained it without proper care and guidance and you wont because you cant. I dont say this directly to you but as an example. Yes Tyson lacked self esteem and behind the incredible gift did lie an insecure person but he was a boy, we we're all full of shit when we were boys of 17,18,19, 20. The reality is that Tysons was one of the greatest talents to ever grace the sport of Boxing and with the help of some horrible people, he squandered it all. There are 3 careers to that man, the one where he met D'amato until he fought Spinks. When Mike knocked Spinks out, his soul left his body, he sold out to King and never treated his craft with any respect again. He was still a great fighter and a fucking hard cunt but his skills were eroding with every week that he couldnt be assed going to the gym with clowns that could barely be called trainers let alone at the level that was required to help Tyson to continue to develop. Then there was Prison and after it, the last drops of Mike was just intimidation, power and raw aggression, the skills were gone and the desire. Money was all that mattered, The Vegas strip and all those fucking low life parasites just ate him up and he let it happen, he was a mess and Evander exposed him badly. Then after that it became a very sad joke that one of the greatest natural fighters to ever live became a club fighter at best. In my honest opinion, at his best he beat Holyfield in 8 more or less one sided rounds, too quick, too good, Douglas in 1 or two, Lewis as soon as he caught him with one or two really clean shots, he would've slipped most of Lewis jabs and barely been caught with anything heavy, similar to the systematic breaking down of Holmes and the other two Williams and Mcbride with all due respect don't even enter into the equation. I think he wouldve knocked Bowe out well before Bowe knocked him out, Bowe was a bully who picked on smaller guys like Dokes Ferguson and Evander. He was talented sure but not in the class of Holyfield who was just too small to overpower Bowe, even though the left that Knocked Bowe down was quality. Michael Moorer wouldve last as long as he did against Tua, 30 seconds. There you have it. Youre right, Atlas liked the sound of his own voice.
