TGL exists for three reasons. Promote Tiger, because he can not walk and play full tournaments anymore and to sell his new brand, Sun Day Red. And thirdly to payoff the players that didn't go to LIV.
It would be very interesting to see the player contracts. It's hard to imagine they are coming cheap, while at the same time I can't see how the current ratings justify what they are paid. It looks like basically a back door to funnel money to loyal players.
When money is the point the average golf fan has tuned out. The most interesting golf these days often involves journeyman pros who are playing for everything. The US Open was great this year because the guys were playing for something bigger than money.
As soon as takomo figures out how to make a highly competitive metal wood the whole game is over cause their irons are basically as good as anything at half the cost the wedges are halfway decent and I hear they’re coming out with butter ones.
Last year I bought Caley 01Ts. Probably the same as a 101T. Fantastic clubs. This year I just bought the Takomo 301 Combo set. I think buying mainstream equipment is a waste of money. My DTC stuff is awesome.
I have a few friends that bought Tacomo, and they say it was the best decision they’ve made with club choice. I haven’t had a chance to hit them, but I am very tempted to purchase a couple clubs just to try them out.
I enjoy it. Anything new is going to have its growing pains, and TGL has plenty of them. I like seeing the pros in this different light, my only issue is I wish they wouldn't try and convince me that the results matter. Just play and have fun. You want it to succeed, you're going to need more gambling involved. IMHO.
I was excited for their first event and turned it off at their intermission. I watched last week because TIGER was playing but yet again turned it off at intermission. Last night I didn't even bother. It's incredibly boring watching these guys hit into a screen on the same holes. I am done.
About the same for me. Tried to watch the first one. Fell asleep a couple times, but was able to finish. Second, I quit before intermission. Didn't even think about the third.
Makes you realise just how boring most of the guys are. Just zero natural interaction and the most generic 2 or 3 word answers to every question that the announcers force out of them once every 30 minutes
It's cringey (WWE announcer of players, awkward banter) and both episodes were blow outs. Over two hours is way too slow. I suspect that this whole thing is not targeted at me though. Maybe targeted at the Top Golf crowd.
TGL needs to bring in different aspects: The Ruth- Call your shot and win bonus points The Callout- Could be long drive, nearest to the pin, putt from the same point but winner takes the hole etc Forced Hand- Opposition chooses your club from a range of usable clubs (chips with 7 iron to lob wedge etc) The Caddy- Putting system that shows the line of the putt Swing Back- Play shot opposite hand (keep to around the green and on the green) Blind side- Player hits over a screen that blocks their view Use it Till you lose it- Pick a aid that you keep until you fail to capitalise with it. Like a putting grid Just a bunch of fun obstacles to add to the mates out playing vibe but still keep it a teams format of 9 holes then the individual head to head afterwards.
Great show guys!!! TGL is a train wreck. The muffled hype prior to launch got some people interested and once the wait was over, the excitement drained quicker than emptying a bathtub. The lack of enjoyment for fans once they are playing is completely evident. Crowds are paid to be there, there is limited to zero interaction with the crowd, no banta and any poking of each other are personal jokes that the public don't understand. "Throw the hammer!?!?!" Some piece of cloth?? WTF?? Get a Thor's hammer or something exciting, make it interesting. The tech being used seems incomplete. To often you see a shot land on a hill and roll 2-3 feet and stop... in the real world this rolls back down the hill and far away. The most exciting shot has been Kisners "almost socket" out of the bunker... They gunna need major modifications to this to make it work, otherwise its loosing traction as opposed to gaining..
Totally off topic, but Chris I dig that Ballyneal sweatshirt! I got to play 2 rounds in a vendor sponsored event and it was a top 5 golf experience for me! Would love to hear your story of playing there.
Here's how you make this interesting - add audience/fan participation. At the start of each hole, call up someone from the stands and allow them to play the alternate shot with a pro. Nothing would be more entertaining than watching the pros have to recover from whatever the average fan does. The callouts should be random so occasionally one team gets a good player. Most of the time, probably not. The point is, it's not real so don't even try to make it real. No one wants to play football against pro football players. People love to see how they'd do in flag football against them. Same concept.
TGL, Tiger and Rory got upset because LIV usurped them with a team event, yet they are completely different. LIV is golf, TGL is a gameshow, i enjoy LIV because in the UK its ad free on YT, lasted 5 minutes with TGL, not for me. Will it last, depends how much has been invested by those running it, including Comcast, they will try hard to milk the thing, however they are milking a dry cow.
Agree. Give me PGA classic golf with the cut and qualifiers, but LIV's presentation and streaming and I'll watch. Not watching PGA commercial borefest and while LIV is ok, I just don't care about the teams themselves. I watch a little, but not invested at all. TGL only saw some highlights and was as lame as I expected.
TGL needs a shot of Chuck to the announcing crew as it is a tough watch right now. I also agree on the equipment as you can tell the players that have missed shots are like, WTF, I just flushed it….
I would imagine that for Tiger, PGA, whoever’s actually making the calls is in a position where they HAVE to incorporate these brands in this way. That’s why I think they use simulator technology that’s able to be sold, and making interviews sounds like ads
I fully agree with you that the hardware choice for the TGL was not good at all. Even if this is geared towards entertainment and not seriousness, the hardware needs to be reliable and accurate. And I know I am only one opinion, but I knew from the start that TGL was not going to be entertaining to watch. The only thing they have going for them is that they are all together while they are playing so it’s slightly entertaining to watch them react to everything. But it’s not a serious competition, and I don’t think they take it seriously. I rather stand in freezing cold at an amateur event on one hole for five hours then watch TGL. And I love watching golf.
Should be using Trackman or Foresight. Second part needs to tie into a publicly accessible league/qualifier where the top teams then compete against the pro teams in a sweet 16 type finale tournament for real money. You can then see the pressure of competing for high level stakes on amateur golfers. Would possibly be decent tv to watch.
TGL is an exhibition at best. Wouldn’t call it real competition. And yes, using Full Swing launch monitors is definitely not where’s it at in a world of launch monitors that they could have used. In the end, TGL takes too long for the level of entertainment that it provides. If the guys were more interesting on camera, I think people could be more interested. Frankly, I’d throw in a Charles Barkley to add some humor to the mix and take some of that pressure off the talent to be something they’re not when they play competitive golf.
So ? 4 U experts..... Doesn't the 3D printing process take considerably longer than merely manufacturing cast or forged irons and if so can Cobra get enough product built to satisfy a larger audience. I'll grab a beer and wait for my answer! 😆
Somewhat enjoying it and will continue to watch BUT I think they need to kill the music and just keep the mics on all the time. Also it needs to be a competitive focus not a fun joking focus. If it doesn’t matter to them it doesn’t matter to us
Can't even bring myself to watch the 5 minutes of highlights this week after falling asleep to the first 2 weeks. The simulator not even being accurate and most of the players being dull beyond belief really doesn't help either
If the professional golf season was short then something like this would be welcome over the winter months. But it’s beyond boring….especially when real golf tournaments are ramping up already.
The Oil Can wedge is beautiful. If I got them, I would hate to hit them and would put them on my wall. Didn't see any of the TGL, but if their tech is not the best indoor monitors, they are going down the wrong road. Money is definitely not a concerns, so buy GCQuad Max and move forward. Cheers.
I love it….. granted I agree they need to get a monitore machine that is COMPLETELY accurate…. But I love the preface of the show , it’s fun…. I could do without the music playing
I don't really want to see a full blown strict competition. I'd love to see much more technology used. Have features like a green reading grid to help read putts indoors, allow teams to have helping lifelines like use the pin to funnel putts or chips to the hole, use a V behind the hole to stop the ball on a fast putt etc. Have a chance for bonus points like have a light shine on the green and if you pitch the ball and it lands on the circle you get a bonus point (player puts the circle where they want it). Just a heap of stuff like that. I'd like to see more of an onus on the skills of being a Tour Pro rather than just who can shoot the lowest score.
It’s like Bros meeting up to practice golf and play it out as a game. If it weren’t for the audience they’d be sitting in a SIM golf joint with a bar. But the tech is expensive. So they bring in sponsors and audience and TV and pay the players (who are mostly already very rich), even more money. Really?
TGL jumped the shark 5 minutes into the 1st show....trainwreck golf league.. they should have taken the original building blowing down as an omen of things to come.
TGL is not a true representation of the players' abilities. Monitors are home devices at best and that green is unputtable. These are the best players in the world and it's pretty obvious they're having a chuckle about the product. The "guessing" comment is telling.
It could have a chance to work. But let’s be honest 90% of the players on the teams have ZERO personalities. In order for this to work beyond this year, they need to seriously look at players that actually have a personality that love to engage with fans and he’s the biggest kicker which we all know won’t happen, but it needs to happen. It’s get some guys from the LIV tour and have them create some teams out that would be fun TV to watch.
TGL is worse than normal golf because it is completely inaccessible to normal golfers. I can play most pga’s courses with few exceptions. I can almost certainly never play on a screen like that.
TGL needs cooler shots fans can get excited to. 290 carries onto greens. Big ass tree in the middle of the fairway you have to hook or fade around with OB on either side. Stinger shot scenarios like why do all this and have normal ass shots, we know theyre good nobody wants to see everything they already do all year around.
Cameron Young and Patrick Cantlay both on the same day was hard to watch. Outside of JT no one was talking so I felt like I was just watching grownups play a video game…..very boring. I’ll give it one more week with Tiger and Rory but it needs to get better…..
I’m not a fan of TGL. If you enjoy it, that’s fine. I like golf outdoors. Yes, I like LIV. Yes, I watch the PGA. I also watch the LPGA, and DP World. I’m just not a fan of watching people hit balls indoors. It doesn’t do it for me. But if people want to continue to watch it, and they enjoy doing so, God Bless them. I’d rather go on RUclips and watch reruns of previous Masters, or DOD King, or Busta Jack. Indoor golf isn’t compelling to me.
Maybe this is how golf is supposed to be. It has always been an outliers sport. Almost everyone who watches golf plays golf. And almost everyone watching golf would rather be playing golf. No other sport continually talks about the importance of growing the game. Other sports grow because kids want to play, baseball, football, soccer, basketball. No one is forcing kids to play. Kids don't have to take lessons to play other sports.
If tiger has killed it out there, people would have loved it !! It's Tigers inability to compete, even at all respectably, ruins it for most ! We want to see TIGER, but we aren't seeing the Tiger we know, so it sucks to watch.
TGL I wanted it to be so good! Fun, maybe LIV vs PGA in the future. Modern way to appeal to younger viewers! But it’s dreadful, boring, so many flaws. I doubt they will even finish the season. I can’t imagine any ratings for this. How does “Boston” or anywhere else have a team when there is only 1 stadium? So stupid!
TGL golf is good for players whose A game has gone south, and it will take some lazy players away from the real game, and then watch LIV golf and it's money sneak in and destroy what's left. PGA Golf as we know it is in serious trouble.
no one wants to see a pro hit a ball into a screen. How about using a top golf type of format where they show a few holes on a screen but supplement it with skills challenges, longest drive, closest to the target/pin, hitting the bullseye, hit to different laddered targets etc. Show viewers how truly skilled these pros are instead of hitting into a screen and faking people oohing and aahing. There is no on-screen appeal.
TGL proves most of the players have no personality. They clearly don’t care if they win or lose so it doesn’t feel competitive and the format doesn’t create any excitement: needs something other than the hammer to create risks and rewards once a team goes down.
TGL is the biggest pile of trash I've seen the pga ever come out with -- and that's saying something. MERGE with Liv. Get back to full fields, more golf, not less golf. More guys having opportunities to play, not this signature event 60 man field and lowering monday q qualifiers and Q school cards. This isn't growing the game, it's an attempt to grow their pockets by appealing to the top guys so that they won't defect to liv. Merge and get back to normal golf with top tier talent squaring off and more opportunities for guys that otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity.
Tried to watch TGL. Too boring. Seems forced. City names are fake. No connection to the cities. The Tiger entrance was comical. Heard all the talking heads saying LIV was not real golf, a hit and giggle, means nothing. Now those same talking heads are falling over themselves to get a slurp of Tiger's TGL.
Tiger was garbage from what I saw. Flame away on the tech but he just can’t play anymore the body won’t give it. Do you expect him to swing perfect forever? He couldn’t get through Q school nowadays 100%. If anyone thinks otherwise they are delusional.
TGL feels like I’m watching an episode of BattleBots.
Now I can't get that image out of my head.
Watched it, liked it. Love the 40 second clock. Luckily, I don’t have the ability to test all the technology like you guys. So I just enjoy it.
Spot on....its all about Tiger.....its SIM golf, so it has major limitations
TGL is like indoor golf itself. Better than nothing, but not even lose to the real thing.
It's impossible for these guys to showcase their skills hitting into a wall
Simulator golf is to help golfers play and practice during winter months when the weather is crap. The pros can go play anywhere-anytime they want.
This TGL bullshit is boring as fuck. Can't get through 10 minutes of it. No one asked for this.
What's interesting is how boring the players are....
Liked it a lot , love the team concept still playing golf in the wintertime
It has ZERO chance to last beyond this season. It is a horrendous watch
I actually love TGL and its entertaining. I love that it's on Tuesday too. More golf during the week.
I enjoy it. Anything new is going to have its growing pains, and TGL has plenty of them. I like seeing the pros in this different light, my only issue is I wish they wouldn't try and convince me that the results matter. Just play and have fun. You want it to succeed, you're going to need more gambling involved. IMHO.

I did the exact same. I did record this last one and this morning I turned it on and fast forwarded to the end just to see who won. Boaring
Same here and I would state that I'm a huge fan of tiger going back to the 90s. This show is just way too boring for me to tune back in.
@@F_isfor_Fish Viewership dropped 30% in week 3
It's cringey (WWE announcer of players, awkward banter) and both episodes were blow outs. Over two hours is way too slow. I suspect that this whole thing is not targeted at me though. Maybe targeted at the Top Golf crowd.
Guys, will this podcast and the previous one be available on Apple Podcasts? I'd really like to listen......my favorite golf podcasts.
Influencers will be inbound to try save it
If the viewership ratings stay high, it will last. It's novel for me but at the end of the day, it's not real golf!
Genius. 😂 That's kinda the point for literally everything on TV my guy.
i love the commentary "I havent seen it but I agree with everything FINCH said"
Can we get Adam back on from time to time? Miss his takes
TGL needs to bring in different aspects:
The Ruth- Call your shot and win bonus points
The Callout- Could be long drive, nearest to the pin, putt from the same point but winner takes the hole etc
Forced Hand- Opposition chooses your club from a range of usable clubs (chips with 7 iron to lob wedge etc)
The Caddy- Putting system that shows the line of the putt
Swing Back- Play shot opposite hand (keep to around the green and on the green)
Blind side- Player hits over a screen that blocks their view
Use it Till you lose it- Pick a aid that you keep until you fail to capitalise with it. Like a putting grid
Just a bunch of fun obstacles to add to the mates out playing vibe but still keep it a teams format of 9 holes then the individual head to head afterwards.
You put waaay too much time and thought into a RUclips comment amigo
The Baby Ruth. Eat a turd, clear the building.
Yeah..if it needs gimmicks, its got problems
I'm so happy I can play the clubs that won the Masters in 2005 for around $400
I can now cash in my US Open Cleveland VAS bag 😮
They gunna need major modifications to this to make it work, otherwise its loosing traction as opposed to gaining..
Let ‘em drink
Totally off topic, but Chris I dig that Ballyneal sweatshirt! I got to play 2 rounds in a vendor sponsored event and it was a top 5 golf experience for me! Would love to hear your story of playing there.
Exactly. Even the highlights are boring. Real golf fans don't watch golf to see personalities, just good golf and good golf courses. NOT SIMS.
I barely watch the PGA Tour, maybe the highlights package, haven’t watched TGL highlights only. Overhyped sim golf, is already boring.

Just when u think things can't get worse then LIV Golf this comes along
LIV golf is very real and high quality...maybe you don't know quality....The LIV teams event is so much better and exciting than TGL
That’s a good summary they got the hard part right but some of the background stuff is annoying and the launch monitor accuracy is questionable
I feel your passion TC, lord knows if TGL lasts

Nah, this isn't enjoyable to watch.
Find it interesting that pro gets some wins and signs a big equipment deal and doesn't win. Koepka did alright quite awhile not having a club deal 🤔
Payne Stewart in his prime signed with Top Flite. Screwed him up bigtime. Probably lost out on a few majors.
So ? 4 U experts..... Doesn't the 3D printing process take considerably longer than merely manufacturing cast or forged irons and if so can Cobra get enough product built to satisfy a larger audience. I'll grab a beer and wait for my answer! 😆
Its the TIGER golf league
Somewhat enjoying it and will continue to watch BUT I think they need to kill the music and just keep the mics on all the time.
Also it needs to be a competitive focus not a fun joking focus. If it doesn’t matter to them it doesn’t matter to us
TGL needs to be Pros vs Joes = then you have people watching hoping Joes win!
Team pairings so far arent good
Can't even bring myself to watch the 5 minutes of highlights this week after falling asleep to the first 2 weeks. The simulator not even being accurate and most of the players being dull beyond belief really doesn't help either
If the professional golf season was short then something like this would be welcome over the winter months. But it’s beyond boring….especially when real golf tournaments are ramping up already.

What TGL needs to save it is the DP World Tour commentary team…
You cannot have an Indoor league based on awful equipment. The actual technology must be precise and fast
I love it….. granted I agree they need to get a monitore machine that is COMPLETELY accurate…. But I love the preface of the show , it’s fun…. I could do without the music playing
I don't really want to see a full blown strict competition. I'd love to see much more technology used. TGL Sucks

It's like watching a boozeless batchelor party.
TGL is not a true representation of the players' abilities. Monitors are home devices at best and that green is unputtable. These are the best players in the world and it's pretty obvious they're having a chuckle about the product. The "guessing" comment is telling.
They need to change to skins scoring and no teams. Teams do nothing for me. Also let's keep it to an hour.
Trackman sucks indoors also
It could have a chance to work. But let’s be honest 90% of the players on the teams have ZERO personalities. In order for this to work beyond this year, they need to seriously look at players that actually have a personality that love to engage with fans and he’s the biggest kicker which we all know won’t happen, but it needs to happen. TGL, what an unbelievably stupid idea.
I'd much rather watch reruns of Shell's Wonderful World of Golf.
TGL is worse than normal golf because it is completely inaccessible to normal golfers. I can play most pga’s courses with few exceptions. I can almost certainly never play on a screen like that.

No the "boom" covid period has ended and Golf is going through another Depression. The sport has got to figure out a way to end the boom/bust cycles
Maybe this is how golf is supposed to be. It has always been an outliers sport. Almost everyone who watches golf plays golf. And almost everyone watching golf would rather be playing golf. Ultimate insult to all golf lovers would be giving them world golf ranking points for this bullsh*t!

I think it needs to incorporate celebrities, athletes, etc. it’s a cool concept but golfers are boring and not well known, outside of the obvious.

This isn't growing the game, it's an attempt to grow their pockets by appealing to the top guys so that they won't defect to liv. Merge and get back to normal golf with top tier talent squaring off and more opportunities for guys that otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity.
Another example of Tiger/Monahan poor business acumen
TGL is nonsense! I don't know why people can't understand that this is a response to LIV golf! LIV made team golf a thing... So PGA had too! Nonsense!
There is many many faults with TGL
I thought TGL would be fun.
But it’s very very boring.
Still waiting on Min Woo Lee’s first crack at it though!
To think Tiger and Rory poo pood Liv golf and bought this crap out. Hitting off mats into a screen. SERIOUSLY.
Nope. I watched 1.25 broadcasts and will not watch again. Not even close to real golf. They are over estimating Tigers appeal.
Not enjoyable to watch. They need the RUclips personalities to make it enjoyable. The pro’s just don’t connect with the audience.
Not for me
I like real golf only
I don’t have any interest in TGL, I have not watched any of it.
Tiger was garbage from what I saw. Flame away on the tech but he just can’t play anymore the body won’t give it. Do you expect him to swing perfect forever? He couldn’t get through Q school nowadays 100%. If anyone thinks otherwise they are delusional.
I like TGL. Why does everything have to be so serious and professional?
TGL truly sucks......no womens team either.......Golf personalities are the worst....Get Michelson, and John Daly on there.
It will not
Wa wa wa. Just stop whining about technology.
Tgl = worst 2hours of tv ever
Not interested in this format at all.
TGL is a fad and will remain a fad and eventually go the way of fads.
It's absolute garbage. 2nd season it will be over.
It looks so stupid
