The way Elton John used to play piano was marvelous. It's amazing that so few notice. Wise use of chords, clear and well-modulated touch, impressive without unnecessary frills.
Agree, he invented a complete new style of playing pop piano. Actually the notes he doesnt play characterize his style more than the notes or chords he plays.
@@danielhkhk7283 I wouldn't call it pop. It's an impetuous mix of gospel, country and blues. There's something touching about it. Like Neil Young's guitar.
Just to be more correct in your title, this was not from 1972 tapes, it was recorded in May 1973. Even the first failed attempt to record, in Jamaica, was in January 1973. Thanks for posting this audio. It's great.
Interesting take. You can plainly hear Eltons' doubled over vocal. Nice back-up vocals, as usual, from Davey, Dee, and Nigel. No reverb added yet. Just a lil bit of "wetness" can really change the sound.
When are you gonna come down? When are you going to land? I should have stayed on the farm I should have listened to my old man You know you can't hold me forever I didn't sign up with you I'm not a present for your friends to open This boy's too young to be singing The blues, ah, ah So goodbye yellow brick road Where the dogs of society howl You can't plant me in your penthouse I'm going back to my plough Back to the howling old owl in the woods Hunting the horny back toad Oh, I've finally decided my future lies Beyond the yellow brick road Ah, ah What do you think you'll do then? I bet they'll shoot down the plane It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics To set you on your feet again Maybe you'll get a replacement There's plenty like me to be found Mongrels who ain't got a penny Sniffing for tidbits like you On the ground, ah, ah So goodbye yellow brick road Where the dogs of society howl You can't plant me in your penthouse I'm going back to my plough Back to the howling old owl in the woods Hunting the horny back toad Oh, I've finally decided my future lies Beyond the yellow brick road Ah, ah Songwriters: Bernie Taupin / Elton John
Listening to the raw vocal it's really clear why Elton struggled with his voice nearly a decade later. Songs like these (and others) have a lot of gear changes going from falsetto to full voice it would've put a lot of strain on his cords. Most notably singing the "You can't plant" section in the first chorus in falsetto, then in full voice the next time around. That's tough. Multiply that by thousands of performances (and the other vices that crept in) and that's where the nodules came from.
I agree one hundred percent. The amount of songs he wrote with the same kind of vocal gymnastics were numerous and he never held back during the live performances either. What talent and dedication!

@@matteodinenno He is mostly a pop artist that uses that mix of genres in a weird sort of piano potion
One of the finest songs ever written
Elton's falsetto ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Regg is one of those gifts to the world from the universe.
Just Elton and the piano. Absolutely the best.
Elton so young and a sweet sounding voice.😊
Oh gee I remember this picture much Love Sir Elton Your's Cherie
Vocal timbre from 1978 appears at 2:50! Shades of "Big Dipper".
This is the song which opened Eltonland to me many years ago. Thank Gawd!

it seems like you isolated those tracks, you can here the drums every now and then 1:17 you can here is on 1:19
His voice is so clear
you can really hear what Gus Dudgeon meant when he said it sounds like Elton decided to go out and sing this in a sped-up voice!
people forget what an amazing songwriter EJ is
Bernie wrote this i guess..
@@thecyberskeleton9589 Bernie wrote the lyrics, Elton wrote The tune.

Great job. I would love a remaster of "I'm still standing" and "Your song" or unpublished versions of Elton John's songs.
Sure, do you have those stems/tracks? Send em to me, I'll mix em

The phrasing it what gets me... Some lines have twice the length yet take up the same amount of beats.

This is the original song without other instruments. Why always fake informations?
That’s not a demo, it’s original song without the band
Change the title. The songs was recorded in may '73
Thanks Victor, I will
Can I get this version through Amazon or something like that?
Hi, I remixed, so this version is available here only, thanks for asking.
Does anybody know how to distort one’s voice like him(Elton)?))
he kept his vocal chords hydrated, that's it
