      I'm not CERTAIN, but I feel like the "out of bounds" alert is due to the fact that the TEXT that is added, as the project, is simply placed over the "work area" without it actually being added TO a specific workpiece. If you're familiar with Easel & how you have the work area (dimensions the machine will travel) and then you actually design a workpiece on a specific species of wood or other types of material such as acrylic/etc. Again, im not certain, but I feel like this could have something to do with it.

    Great video series! I'm doing my research on it now and plan on making the purchase this week, a birthday gift to myself! Quick question, do you need to change the settings back in Gsender when you go back to routing?

    • @SienciLabs
      @SienciLabs  Год назад +1

      Nope, you should be able to go back and forth without changing your settings. The only exception would be if you also have a PWM controlled spindle or external device that you are using the same pins as controlling the laser, but if you are using the Makita router, you won't need to switch settings to make it work.

    What is the Longmills MKII ”Resolution”?
    with this lasermodule, how small engraving can you actually ”burn” or is it mostly for cutting?
    Today i have a Neje Master 3 and can engrave very small text and patterns on stainless steel/knifes etc, and my thought was to mount the Neje module to a ”soon ordered MKII” 😎

    • @SienciLabs
      @SienciLabs  Год назад

      We won't be able to give you a very conclusive number. The theoretical resolution of the machine is the motors running at 200 steps/mm meaning discrete steps of 0.005mm. The reality though is much different since all hobby systems have inherent looseness to them (depending on how they're assembled and tuned by the user with still some remaining left over) as well as how quickly you run the machine since all motion systems have inertia. We do have posted numbers that can be expected when cutting but nothing regarding laser engraving, but with that said you can see past instances of our laser being used to do quite intricate raster engravings so perhaps it can do the job you're looking to do. If it does or doesn't - let us know either way 👍

  • @iwannaapple7190
    @iwannaapple7190 Год назад +1

    Does somebody know exactly what this means and how I can even look at my g-code to see line 18.
    I ran a simple text in Lightburn and burned it fine. However, when I try to burn a greyscale picture I keep getting this error code: G-code words consist of a letter and a value. Letter was not found.
    It was running just fine the day before cause I ran lots of test cards. Now I cant even burn a picture on my Sienci laser.
    My wife says burn another picture but I don't know if its worth trying that.
    By the way, it doesn't crash anymore from the outline button.

    Can you explain why the laser level during "focusing" was still intense enough to burn the wood. I have watched dozens of cnc laser reviews and and have never seen the laser burn the target during the focusing proceedure. This apears to be an unresolved safety issue.

    • @iwannaapple7190
      @iwannaapple7190 2 года назад

      Yeah, I'd like to know that too.
      Some videos I see the laser is not even on for focusing OR it has a very weak light for aiming purposes.

    • @SienciLabs
      @SienciLabs  2 года назад

      Thanks for the concern! We addressed that in the video. The dip switch on the driver was set to 5 not 1 which is why it burned so easily. For a safer method, please set your dip switch on the driver to 1. This should still give you the ability to focus, without so much power flowing. We hope you have fun with your new laser!

    • @dougpearce8019
      @dougpearce8019 2 года назад

      In the video the dip switch was set to 1 prior to focusing. The problem seems to be the preset power setting is set to high.

    Hello, I would like to make a request for a Macro / Video project
    Basically, I have my longmill setup with the X and Y as known entity because I have the inductive limit switches.
    So, when I home my machine, I am ready to go.
    However, because of the position of the laser, my Home of the laser is not the same as the router, it would be informative for you to do a video where you create a Macro, so I can click a button and it goes to the X0 and Y0 of where the router head is.
    The scenario I would give you is, Lets say I make a Cribbage board, I carve it, then rather then carving the lettering and some of the fancy lines. I could burn it using the laser.
    In my minds eye,
    1 - Do your design work in Vectric
    2 - You take a screenshot of the work in Vectric,
    3 - In lightburn you import the picture and use it as a reference for all the burning you want to do.
    4 - Open gSender, home the machine, mount the work. and carve
    (assuming you have created the above macro,)
    5 - Execute the macro, and the laser moves to the new X and Y. (macro should also reset the X and Y to zero once its done moving)
    6 - load the burn Gcode, and click start.

      Hey Stephen, in gSender we actually have a version of this feature if I understand correctly what you're saying. In the settings under 'Spindle/laser' you're able to set an offset between the two of them and then using the 'Spindle/laser' tab once you enable it, you can toggle between the two and that toggle will apply the offset to your zero point. If you have any other questions about it let us know!

      I have version 1.0.3.110
      Thats not the only thing it does either.
      That actually is the tip of the iceberg.
      I don't think so. I haven't actually been on the look out for that. I've been too worried about other things it does. But I will tell you the other day I surfaced my waste board (not using the surfacing program part of gsender.) For nothing better to do I ran it just using a 1/4 downcut bit. Worked great. I had time. Ran the same program 3 times. I was actually flattening out the bottom waste board so I can put a brand new one on top of that and very slightly surface that one too. Well, that didn't happen because The pen on the graph didn't know where it was at even though the zero was at the starting point. It started doing something crazy (it started surfacing at a completely different starting spot) even though I never closed out gsender or never did I start a new program. Even if I did it really keeps the same coordinates (which I like but I always check).
      I have programming experience. To me, it looks like there is a loop that has a mistake in it and thats why I could not rerun the same thing again.
      Sometimes mistakes don't reveal themselves unless it steps through a loop several times.
      My gsender just seems to have gotten worse lately.

    I don't understand why you set your feed rate in LB to mm/sec, and not mm/min, as recommended in LB for diode lasers. Since gcode machines cannot take feed rates in mm/sec, the actual rate in the gcode is multiplied by 60 to show the F command in mm/min. Also, since gSender cannot be set to show any rates in mm/sec, it seems odd to use that setting in LB.
    You talk about power and feed rate almost interchangeably. Changing the feed rate in LB does not change the power setting. I'm sure that you know this, but the video seems to confuse the two settings.
    You mention that you don't know what is causing the out of bounds error. You may want to check the size of your bed entered in the settings window.

    • @SienciLabs
      @SienciLabs  2 года назад

      The feed rate is simply user preference. It has no bearing on how the machine works. If you're comfy with mm/min, feel free to set your preferences up that way. Thanks for the question! We hope you love using your laser!

    • @SienciLabs
      @SienciLabs  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the comment. We send spacers with every laser for this very reason. All the lenses have a focus range, so if you are in the range you can get the lens to focus. It doesn't really matter if you're at the top of the range, bottom of the range or in-between you can set the range using either and the lens will focus. If you have any trouble reach out to us and we'll help!
