Considering PAUL SIMON's Global Success and profile, this sparse recording confirms his Songwriting and Vocal chops... He was destined to GREATNESS, and it's Awesome to hear his early start, like This. Thank You for sharing Brenda!
I absolutely love this song so much. My very favourite of all. I too spent time in England and in fact I hung out at a folk club in London at a club called Bunjies Folk Cellar. Paul Simon played there in about '64 or '65. I was there in the 1970's and 1980's.
This song just tears at my heart. The profound effect and beautiful lyrics; Paul's singing of this song is almost beyond belief. I feel totally spellbound and in awe of this song. It is definitely my very favorite of his songs. It also has a real reality for me. I too went to England for a long visit in 1985 and my new boyfriend was left back in America. At that early time of our relationship, I know that he felt the same away about me that Paul writes about in this song. Sadly, at 5 years into our relationship, he ended it without any words of farewell, just ended it forever....
I fell in love with & was enthralled with S&G music from the very first time I heard a song by them being sung by a senior in college in the late 60s. In Delhi. It was - The Dangling Conversation.. Getting records in India was so difficult, those days, as almost nothing they produced had reached or caught our youth generation here in India.. then. Then they caught on like wildfire.. But EMI brought out their The Sounds Of Silence album, that I saved up for & bought. Then came across one of their first albums ever - Wednesday Morning at 3 am... written mostly During their England sojourn, period..Kathy being the name of the girl Paul was much in love with, in London . Found It either in the University Ford Foundation library, or the USIS in Delhi. Bookends followed, since we were a close knit group of S&G lovers, who shared music - taught each other & learned to pick, finger plucking style, the guitar, played in the folk style that performers & singers used to play in the 60s & 70s. Esp Paul Simon's ... versions The movie The Graduate that came to cinemas then, had so many of their then current hits.. played beautifully, April, etc etc Followed BY their album we then got from the UK, Parsley Sage Rosemary & Thyme, played with intermittent lines interspersed with Canticle, an old English traditional song, that blended beautifully with PSR & Thyme. Then all their other music before & after they broke up..& reunited for... the Concert in the Park.. A magical growing up era.. that blended so beautifully with our Own growing up & our own formative young adult years.. and the issues we faced as young people growing up. Love, loneliness, friendship, separation, broken hearts, alienation etc etc Their music & songs were so poignant, sensitive & captured that era so beautifully.. As Someone sensitive once remarked /observed / wrote, a music critic or some observant soul - that their / Paul's early music albums, compositions - ESP before they went electronic, like Bob Dylan & others..- their early music was like church, choral music, in its tones, composition, 2 part harmonies and chordal progressions & themes. Deeply affected & inspired by them. And as one brought up in similar choirs, singing choral music in 4 part harmony, I concurred with that keen observation.. ESP the early S&G. They were blessed with Talent richly.. ___ Thank you so much for this evocative Eva Cassidy version, even though its a much shorter version, with just 3 or so verses, out of 6, I think.. I remember still the words of all their songs..after all these years..❗ Thank you. 🍀🎼🎵🎶🎙🎤🎧📻🎸🎹

Hearing a song like this, you wonder how his personal life could be as tortured & conflicted as it has always been. But... maybe... that is necessary. Maybe that's exactly where words & melodies like this come from. "Words that tear & strain to rhyme..."
I could not find the exact one on Spotify . Thr song was performed live on a radio show in 1965 . This version from the Paul Simon Songbook solo album is very similar. open.spotify.com/track/3omDcdGnhE6eqd6ZyMhHWZ

A great rendition of a beautiful love song.

Just beautiful ❤
Poetic beauty of a emotionally wrenching ballad.
It seems to be at a slightly slower tempo than the one that I normally listen to (greatest hits version). Love this version ❤️
I think so too Saugata. It is indeed lovely.

Beautiful song and splendid singer❤
Yes Pauline,. one of Paul's best songs and sang beautifully.
The pain in this song - it was a key song for me 30yrs back - and so I come to doubt - so important to me
Paul Simon is the musician I respect the most. I think it's wonderful that his songs are not only melodious but also have lyrics that are true poetry.
Stunning. Thank you for posting. England of my youth. Missing the times and the people!
The England of my youth too . they were great times . Living in Australia since 1976 but have such fond memories of those days.

Anyone have any idea what Garfunkels purpose was?
Great vocal interpretations of Paul's songs.
One listen to "Bridge Over Troubled Water" or maybe "For Emily Whenever I May Find Her" should answer your question.
To sing
Wtf kind of question is that?
