Two of my favorite things in the whole wide world are Game of Thrones and System of a Down...when I first heard it, I totally lost my ever-lovin mind! Serj's vocals hit my ear canals and fills me with gitters 🙂
@@FanAstraea it's a glorious version of an already glorious song 🙂 All of Ramin Djawadi's soundtracks for GoT is above and beyond the stuff most shows have. And he's doing House of the Dragon too ❤️
For musical analysis purposes, I would have to say Question! is probably one of the best songs from System of a Down. There's so much going on in rhythm, and instrumentation, vocals, lyrics...I recommend that most.
Serg is amazing. Great review. The kid is a “circus freak” always looking at the Aerials, the trapeze artists, wanting to be more. He realizes throughout the song that he is appreciated by people because he is a “freak” and that he will never gain the same acceptance as the aerial artists. In the end he is filled with disillusion and knows he has been used because he is different.
Agree - the kid tries to imagine himself in that fancy life, and that's why he gets the details wrong. That's why he's drinking milk, hanging out with models, photographers, etc. It's a kid's vision of the fancy life he doesn't have and feels he will never get.
I think the kid is an alien, that came down from an aerial craft and is being forced to be humanized, not liking it. Thats what the video says to me. But the actual song says something else. Its hard to get meaning from a song after a production company steps in and makes a music video that doesn't relate to the real meaning of a song. Or does it?
SOAD is one of the greatest bands of all time, My favorite song of theirs, another with fantastic vocals, is Hypnotize. The message behind it is so impactful as well.
the video is deep as heck, i first saw it at 12yo i think, but even then i understood the industry is using kid's face just for money and clout, he's from the freak circus and all alone, while having EVERYTHING that MOST want
If you like Serj forward placement, you should listen to “Empty Walls” from Serj Tankian (solo) or with a full orchestra playing with him. You’ve got choice ;)
G’day Ken from Perth, Australia 🇦🇺 I’ve been watching your stuff for a while having no vocal experience/appreciation for as long as I could remember. I’ve been a metal/hard rock lover since I was 10 years old and I love seeing a professional like you break down tracks like these into Laymen’s terms like you do. Props to you mate, keep it up ❤️
Just noticed within the music video for the first time even though I've watched the music video a couple of times. The one aerialist pulls their hands back leaving the other not holding onto anything at the end of "free your life" specifically at 5:57 in this video's timestamp.
Awesome analysis as always! Here's a criminally underrated suggestion: the Bass Gang. They're four bass singers from literally across the world from one another who came together to make incredible music together. Their covers of "Emperor's New Clothes" by Panic! At The Disco and "Centuries" by Fall Out Boy are absolutely jaw-dropping and I cannot believe more people haven't seen them. You'd enjoy the hell...o kitties out of them!
There is a hidden track after this on this album that serves like an outro to this song . If you're interested it's called Arto and it's a more middle eastern traditional song
Happened to see your show, 3 knights with a tenor. In interior BC a while back. Neat to see you continue with system as it doesn't at all seem you but goes to show the musical chops the band has. Uniquely styled! And oozing talent
a lot of people seem to misunderstand that about metal bands, especially numetal from this era specifically. Most of those guys had funny haircuts and beards/tattoos but deep down they were just huge music theory nerds lmao
The song is about how we all feel like freaks , and think now being rich and famous will change our lives.. when you lose small mind you free your life means keeping a closed mind means you are free to live your live for happiness… and the ending is how it’s so exhausting to have the rich and famous lifestyle
As a punk with social problems i tend to be alone alot and that gives me time to think. Analysis of the philosophy behind lyrics is something very important to me when i listen to music and therefore i only really want to listen to music where there is something to think about at all and system of a down has never failed to give me something to unpuzzle.
I’d love to hear your take on either Hypnotize or Lonely Day, since they’re more of a Daron songs, but also being way more chill than he usually is! Also I know this was 11 months ago kdjdjsnsns
This will probably get lost in the comments but you should definitely listen to Question! on SOAD's Mesmerize album! One of the most unique songs they have made in my opinion in regards to vocals and instrumentals!
"Aerials" by System of a Down is a song about life's deeper meanings, including unity, interconnectedness, and the desire for freedom. It encourages listeners to "wake up" and see the possibilities that lie beyond everyday life. Some lyric analysis includes "Life is a waterfall, we're one in the river, one again after the fall", which suggests that people start off the same and end up the same.
The pitched sound he makes when he finishes the lyrics is precious. I am not a vocal coach, however I detect when something is created with intelligence involved
I tell you again, you have to listen to Freak on a leash by Korn. Best Live Performance is together with Amy Lee from Evanescence. Many greets from Germany!
New to the page, I like that you aren’t afraid of heavier music. You should check out the band Protest The Hero. All songs reek of genius, but the video for “blindfolds aside” may be a fun review.
Could I suggest a song which Serj Tarkyan song with his father. It called Bari Arakeel, it's traditional armenian song, very beautiful. And emotions in father and son duet are such amazing
The song itself is about the handicap the bassist said in an interview to image a handicap boy going to a circus and he is sitting in his wheelchair watching the acrobats knowing that he will never be able to do what they do
Korn's Freak on a Leash please! Jonathan Davis has a really unique voice, at least I think so 😊 It would also be awesome to see you react to Matt Bellamy from Muse!
From what I understand from the visual, it's like a special kid (a bit like mutants of MCU) who seems to have some telekinetic powers. Because of all of this, he draws attention of a lot of interested people who only try to exploit him. As he is a kid, he does not have the wisdom to refuse them. At the end, he gets money and women accompany him constantly (kind of a satyric version of success). Though he is also harrassed by paparazzis and journalists. There we understand that he still is a kid, and even though he gets anything he wants, he also feels lonely and sad because of this unwanted attention (as a lot of young stars or stars' families do). At the end he falls on the ground, synonym that he had enough of all of this and threw it away, finally alone to stop feeling alone (irony) in this human sea. Anyway all pf what I said could very well be wrong as I am not sure I got the message of the song (it seems to me it is critic of our society and our contradictory wishes).
I feel it's a lot more plain. The face is the typical celeb plastic surgery look tuned straight into the uncanny valley. Imagine Julia Roberts. Strong baby-sized chin, high protruding cheekbones, eyelashes, the works. And the celeb theme goes into the action. Here's Roberts looking kewl in a music video with cholo cars and dolla dolla bills yo, all part for their culture fosho. Here's them standing still on the "red carpet" (cardboard box) getting snapped. SOAD performs in a literal circus, because subtlety is dead. There's no super- anything here. It's a warning to the naive (young) viewer that they shouldn't project themselves onto their broadcasts nor aspire to be in them, because it sucks for both parties. The chorus can then read as a plea for direct, literally unmediated life experience.
I've seen some comments on here interpreting the meaning of this song. I truly believe that the true genius behind SOAD is their ability to write songs that can have multiple interpretations to different people. Granted, songs like BYOB and Prison song are pretty obvious, but many others are not. Reminds me of Tool (who also like SOAD, are F'ing legends)
Serg is the man. But the thing that always made SOAD so amazing was the harmonies of Serg and the other dudes voice. Never heard anything like it before or since.
Would love to see you react to Sleep Token && their song Alkaline. They aren’t a very known band like System of a Down. But I really believe you’d be blown away by Vessle’s voice.
I love all of the video reactions. Especially to the bands with amazing vocalists. One of my favorite vocalists has to be Michael Poulsen in Volbeat. Nearly anything in their catalog should be worth a listen. Die to Live featuring Neal Fallon from clutch is one of my current favorites.
You want a song you've never heard before and has pleasing vocal stuff for you? Aidus (Official Video version) from Eluveitie (a swiss band of folk metal). That's their brand new single released ahead of a new album. Enjoy!
So hoping this gets seen but I wanna see a review of Volveat’s For Evigt (or the bliss, the English only version) or perhaps one of the other popular songs. Last day under the sun or seal the deal.
First off, love the channel. Second, id love to see your reaction to a band by the name of kimg diamond. You've done "invisible guests" yes, i know, but i would LOVE and i hope you would too, or at least find some interest in "tea" by the one and only king diamond. Its off the same album as the previous song youve reacted to titled "them". Very theatrical. Opreative. And lets not forget spooky (in honnor of Halloween season). Long story short (though ive already said the story haha, i think you'd like it. Its got the highs, the lows, and the story. Ps, it follows the story of the album, like you said in the previous video, "spooky grandma" lol the album is a story of a grandma who has returned home to a group of friends from beyond the grave.
