  • Hamilton, Ontario, Canada will be among the few places in North America to experience a total solar eclipse on April 8. This will be the first total solar eclipse in the city since Jan. 24, 1925. The next won’t happen until Oct. 26, 2144.
Dr. Kourosh Sabri, a professor in the Department of Surgery at McMaster University, says you should never stare directly at the sun. Staring at the sun without proper protection may cause damage to your retina (the tissue at the back of your eye) called solar retinopathy. This damage can occur without any sensation of pain. The injury can be temporary or permanent.
In this video, Sabri shares some potential symptoms of eye damage if you watch the solar eclipse.

Huh. Maybe this is why I had some strange headaches after the eclipse. I only caught it out of the corner of my eye a few times by accident, but still experienced a "burn-in" effect in my vision for a few days afterwards.

I looked for 10 seconds in the worst case scenario and felt laser type pain go through my left eye to brain. For 3 months the back of my eye burned constantly and headaches. Retina and vision ok. I’m on month 4. Nobody has answers for me. Been to 5 doctors. Could I lose vision still? What’s going on?

Is it safe to look at the eclips if the window is closed

No. I think viewing through a window could potentially make it worse. Unless the window is very tinted and includes some sort of UV protective coating. Even then, 'safer,' but not safe.
