Very cool. Great tension and vibes that makes it feel more lively (imo tension is essential to separating great catfights from lesser ones). Not a lot of animators can do that. As constructive criticism, I'd say to improve the lighting. The indoor scene is solid but I think the outdoor lighting could use a tint and less brightness. When you see outdoor fights in films, especially in the rain at night, it has a purple, blue, or green tint. Maybe play around with it until it starts to resemble the kind of lighting you see in a video game or movie. Obviously, I understand you probably don't want to enshroud the character's faces and bodies in darkness but there probably could be a way to do this without sacrificing that. Maybe, various light sources from different directions would help to counterbalance the "in your face lighting". Also, some of the editing and framing is a bit wonky. I get that you want to showcase your characters but sometimes if a character is getting up for example, just let her stand up without being obstructed. IRL, yes, they're next to each other close up but in movies, the cinematic magic has it where you see a character get up and they're distanced in one scene while close up in the next. Likewise, you also don't always need to show the full animation. I understand you worked hard at it and it's not like the animation goes to waste. It's just that if you're cutting back and forth between rapid strikes, it helps to create a sense of speed and continuity. This is why a lot of movies film multiple angles of one scene and maybe only use 15-30% of the entire choreography. That way, they can splice together different angles to make the continuity work. For example, 1:23 is good to showcase Natasha attacking quickly. However, after Black Cat punches in the next cut and Natasha ducks, we should immediately transition the camera on Natasha's face as she lowers herself. That way, it can cut next to the shot of the punch to the abdomen. Editing like this makes it so it doesn't mess with the continuity and flow of the fight. And then, if a certain segment feels too slow with the rest of the scene, one trick I learned from listening to martial arts choreographers is they speed up certain scenes (or even the entire fight) from 100% to 110%-125%. For example, look at this playful wing chun fight between a dad and his daughter. Just some thoughts there that I hope can help you out. You'll definitely get better as you continue. I feel it's one of those things you'll semi-consciously pick up as you get used to it. Sorry it took so long to formulate a response, thanks for being patient and bearing with me on this. We have a lot to cover though, so let’s jump right into it. Yeah, I’m glad you think this Fight scene holds up. Compared to what I can do now, yeah this is pretty shitty. There are so many times where the faces are animated poorly. Each shot is so awkward, and the lighting is absolutely abysmal. I don’t follow any traditional film making rules in terms of shot composition some of the movements are pretty janky. but I’m glad people seemed to enjoy this one for the most part. There was SO much room for improvement and the main difference is the time I could put into the project. I do like how the fight itself plays out though. I love the kick through the window, I wish more people talked about how awesome that transition was. The way that leads into the Sexy Black Widow leg flip, to the mask removal, to the low blow. The way the fight unfolds organically and gradually becomes more intense is something that I thought I did pretty well. I didn’t want to repeat myself with Black Widow vs Catwoman, but there are definitely references and allusions to this one. But there isn’t enough emotion or dialogue in this. Like those two lines aren’t really enough at the beginning of the animation to carry over for the whole 4 minutes. By the end they seemed more like barbie dolls being smashed together with occasional grunts. I think I made the characters feel more realized in Black Widow vs Catwoman. There’s a bit more banter between them in the middle of the fight, and they both get frustrated and desperate at times. It is much more dynamic and interesting. January…and I hate to say that, but we’ve all come to far, and waited too long for it not to be perfect. Especially changing the frame rate, or a single shot, and throw a lot of clips and audio out of balance. But I’m proud to say I’m using adobe premiere too! The transition with the mirror shatter is definitely the thing that lets the audience know “oh, now it’s really about to go down”. That I could honestly excuse at the end of the day, there’s not many choices of dialogue for these two. I’m really looking forward towards the dialogue in the next one, tho. There’s a lot to work with, the clash of personalities alone is what’s gonna make Selina and Nat seem more alive and at each other’s throats. Honestly, my favorite moment is probably the combo Felicia manages to land on Nat from 2:30-2:56. I like the way the her ferocity just comes out and she manages to make Nat look like she’s struggling to even land a hit. I think the climax is excellent however, seeing Nat come back from the brink of her loss and leave Felicia unconscious by the end of it with the great framing of her reaction to the final kick. I’m not gonna lie, tho…I kinda would have liked to see a version where Felicia won. Aw, man that’s terrible man. I’m glad you’re doing alright, I’m hoping you settled into your new job and house as well. TDKR Catwoman vs MCU Black Widow is just wrapped in so much potential and complex dynamics that perfectly play into their characters with the clash of personalities. When I first started with Blender, I immediately wanted to give up, it can be challenging but when you become comfortable, you can make anything you want! Speaking of which, your Computer can handle Blender... It just depends on what you make! My suggestion is to start small! Don't go head first into complex particle simulations! Start with basic lighting and rendering in Eevee and grab some free models online! Bring the sample and renders to something your computer can handle then see how it goes. Pesonally, I do use a laptop and I've used old computes with great results! Don't let anything hold you back, my friend!

Black Widow Vs Black Cat - One Year later. Whats up guys, not sure if people are still stumbling across this video, but today marks the anniversary of this animation. This goes for most artist, but it can be tough revisiting your old work. I did put my heart and soul into this animation a year ago, but I was still a total amature 3D animator. To say this video has room for improvement is an understatement. A year later, I'm nearing the end of my next project, Black Widow vs Catwoman. This animation had to walk, so Black Widow vs Catwoman could run. This animation only served as a stepping stone to ultimatley go in that direction and bring something truly special to life. Keep an eye out guys, that should be released in December!

I'm at the epic conclusion / Climax of the fight and I just want to be sure I got all the ideas out, that we've all imagined and fantasized. Its really meant to be the definitive Superheroine fight, cause there isn't really one. It's almost 10 mintues of pure action, and every single shot equated to about a full day of my life. ( We're looking at around 200+ Once I'm finished. ) Thankfully I have some time on my hands, for the next couple of weeks and it is my primary focus in life right now. Question - Is Black Widow an original 3D model for this video? I ask this because I know by the hairstyle that this is the Black Widow from The Avengers film in 2012, but I don't remember any tie-in games to base the model off of at that time. I could be wrong, but I'm just curious.

What's up Steve. Honestly, this video is about a year old, tons of the files that I used for the sound effects are long gone. I don't even have many versions of this video anymore...The good news? In terms of sound effects, don't underestimate what you can get from RUclips. All the sound I got for free by searching up sound files from video games and movies. Romanov's face looks a little too doll-like, creating an uncanny valley effect for me. For whatever reason this is not the case on Hardy's, except in the KO scene. Also some of the shoulder geometry like at 2:58 looks wrong. I know this is a characteristic of the models, but maybe don't feature bad bending effects in the middle of a shot...
Hey, Awesome comment! I really appreciate this type of feedback. There are a handful of shots I regret keeping in this and the one you mentioned at 2:58 is one of them. You know what's funny, there are a bunch of moments when Natasha's shoulder is gaping open, but because of the angle of the shot, you actually see through the model, and into the other side, but since her outfit is black, you don't even notice. Depending on the context and situation, I was able to get away with it, but that moment you mentioned, I definitely could of shot from a different angle. For what it's worth and given the time, I'd probably reshoot 30% of these shots, if I wanted to put in that kind of time, but this project already took long enough and I just wanted to get this out there. I didn't think either of facial rigs was working particularly well, but it was super ambitious to do these close-ups when I wasn't confident in how to animate expressions. It's a bummer it didn't pay off. One last thing from me, if you don't mind me asking, are you a Catfight Fan? are you an Animator? You got a really keen eye and I have to give you props, I'm curious how you're approaching this one.
@@monstermash1571 Animation is a hobby I guess you could say. I'm more of a writer and editor for fight sequences. These models probably weren't made for this kind of range of motion, which is why you're dealing with some rigging issues. Are you using facerig for the speech capture? One thing I might recommend is to not have such smooth camera transitions. Around 1:45 with the blur is pretty much perfect. and to increase the speed of the video mixing when a strike is being thrown. It seems like you did that at 1:35 for the window crash, but it could use a speed boost around 0:47 and 2:42. I think the use of slow-down should be saved for the very beginning and very end, that way you don't screw with the pacing.

Yes, so this was made entirely in Blender. Using motion capture from Mixamo. I did this after picking up 3D animation for only about 6 months. Not bad, but my project, Black Widow Vs. When I first started with Blender, I immediately wanted to give up, it can be challenging but when you become comfortable, you can make anything you want!
Speaking of which, your Computer can handle Blender... It just depends on what you make! My suggestion is to start small! Don't go head first into complex particle simulations! Start with basic lighting and rendering in Eevee and grab some free models online! Bring the sample and renders to something your computer can handle then see how it goes. Pesonally, I do use a laptop and I've used old computes with great results! Don't let anything hold you back, my friend!

Black Widow Vs Black Cat - One Year later.
Whats up guys, not sure if people are still stumbling across this video, but today marks the anniversary of this animation. This goes for most artist, but it can be tough revisiting your old work. I did put my heart and soul into this animation a year ago, but I was still a total amature 3D animator. To say this video has room for improvement is an understatement. A year later, I'm nearing the end of my next project, Black Widow vs Catwoman. This animation had to walk, so Black Widow vs Catwoman could run. This animation only served as a stepping stone to ultimatley go in that direction and bring something truly special to life. Keep an eye out guys, that should be released in December!

Pheonix!! Thank you so much, I really can't say how much the kind words mean to me, after all this time. Black Widow vs Catwoman is going to be incredible and I am very close to finishing! I'm at the epic conclusion / Climax of the fight and I just want to be sure I got all the ideas out, that we've all imagined and fantasized. Its really meant to be the definitive Superheroine fight, cause there isn't really one. It's almost 10 mintues of pure action, and every single shot equated to about a full day of my life. ( We're looking at around 200+ Once I'm finished. )
Thankfully I have some time on my hands, for the next couple of weeks and it is my primary focus in life right now. Looking for a Early or Mid December Release date! Can't wait to see you there when it finally hits the web! ;)

Question - Is Black Widow an original 3D model for this video? I ask this because I know by the hairstyle that this is the Black Widow from The Avengers film in 2012, but I don't remember any tie-in games to base the model off of at that time. I could be wrong, but I'm just curious.

Thank you! I actually really appreciate that! The glass shattering moment at 1:36 doesn't get commented on much, but it was the most challenging and most rewarding shot I did. Despite the nature of the content, a lot of time went in to making this look as good as I can. Im glad you enjoyed it

What's up Steve. Honestly, this video is about a year old, tons of the files that I used for the sound effects are long gone. I don't even have many versions of this video anymore...The good news? Black Widow vs Catwoman comes out next month and it's going to blow your fucking mind. Stay tuned and be sure to leave a comment when that video drops.
In terms of sound effects, don't underestimate what you can get from RUclips. All the sound I got for free by searching up sound files from video games and movies. I download the MP3 Files and throw them into the animation, and it's not any more complicated than that.

Romanov's face looks a little too doll-like, creating an uncanny valley effect for me. For whatever reason this is not the case on Hardy's, except in the KO scene.
Also some of the shoulder geometry like at 2:58 looks wrong. I know this is a characteristic of the models, but maybe don't feature bad bending effects in the middle of a shot...
Hey, Awesome comment! I really appreciate this type of feedback. There are a handful of shots I regret keeping in this and the one you mentioned at 2:58 is one of them. You know what's funny, there are a bunch of moments when Natasha's shoulder is gaping open, but because of the angle of the shot, you actually see through the model, and into the other side, but since her outfit is black, you don't even notice. Depending on the context and situation, I was able to get away with it, but that moment you mentioned, I definitely could of shot from a different angle.
For what it's worth and given the time, I'd probably reshoot 30% of these shots, if I wanted to put in that kind of time, but this project already took long enough and I just wanted to get this out there.
I didn't think either of facial rigs was working particularly well, but it was super ambitious to do these close-ups when I wasn't confident in how to animate expressions. It's a bummer it didn't pay off.
One last thing from me, if you don't mind me asking, are you a Catfight Fan? are you an Animator? You got a really keen eye and I have to give you props, I'm curious how you're approaching this one.
@@monstermash1571 Animation is a hobby I guess you could say. I'm more of a writer and editor for fight sequences. These models probably weren't made for this kind of range of motion, which is why you're dealing with some rigging issues. Are you using facerig for the speech capture? One thing I might recommend is to not have such smooth camera transitions. Around 1:45 with the blur is pretty much perfect. and to increase the speed of the video mixing when a strike is being thrown. It seems like you did that at 1:35 for the window crash, but it could use a speed boost around 0:47 and 2:42. I think the use of slow-down should be saved for the very beginning and very end, that way you don't screw with the pacing.
