I used to HATE westerns. My grandfather would watch them all the time, and they just bored me....until I watched Unforgiven. That changed everything.
I completely agree that’s the one that opened my eyes too. If your a fan of film you have to try everything because you just don’t know you might find something you love.
Unforgiven, My Name is Nobody along with McCabe and Mrs. Miller are my favourite westerns. I have to check them out on 4K.
I haven’t seen all those myself so i’ll have to check those out also. I’m sure they look beautiful!
How does the 4K digital stream compare to the 4K disc in terms of picture quality? Thx!
I actually think it’s a little bit of a jump to the disk just because it’s uncompressed. This 4k was one of the early 4ks so it’s not perfect but I still think it’s an improvement over the stream because I think the same scan and you don’t have to worry about a stream making it look just a little worse.
Westerns are a natural for 4K. I would love to see The Wild Bunch, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Open Range, My Name is Nobody (simply great), and I suspect we'll get the other Leone westerns. Unforgiven was one of my first 4ks and I suspect I'd double dip, as I've done on a number of other titles.
Yea i’m hoping we get once upon a time in the west soon because that’s in my top 3. We’ll have a review for High Plains Drifter when the 4k funnily arrives lol.
@@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia Rumor has it OUATIA in 2023.
That would be my most anticipated if they announce it!
What a cast, what a movie! My favorite western of all times! Got the DVD/Bluray/4K strelbook:)
It’s my favorite also but this is actually the only edition i’ve ever owned. I would love that steelbook loll -John
This would be an incredible criterion
I would pay too dollar for it!
@@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia
It would be an immediate pre order
Got to say, this is one of the few western movies that I watched and enjoyed. It isn't perfect, but still not bad and also awesome work on the review.
Thanks JFS I always appreciate you saying that! Yea I can’t say it’s a perfect film but I really do love it. Just the way it’s builds to the end and we see a glimpse of the man he used to be. The man we only heard about, I’m a sucker for that trope. John Wick made a whole franchise out of that trope and i’ll always love it.
it sure does. wb must redo or properly restore the film. the current 4k release is lacking as it's a transfer from an outdated master. while they're at it, wb should restore pale rider too.
Pale rider would make a great 4k! Yea this one needs an update but at least it’s not to bad but this year really would of been perfect for its 30th.
“You just shot an unarmed man”
“Well ….. he should have armed himself”
That ending is one of the best sequences in movie history.
@@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia
It’s an incredible movie.
I 100% agree it should get the criterion treatment
Filmed in beautiful Alberta.
It looks absolutely beautiful!!
The western that got me into westerns
Me to Freddy before this one I always thought of westerners as old slow boring films and man I was wrong and happy I was. -John
4:00 That is the most shallow take on it Ive ever heard. “I’m the best, doesn’t even matter”
5:42 comparing Unforgiven to Malcolm X is ridiculous and this brand of movie critic virtue signaling is everything that is wrong with todays professional movie critics. They look ridiculous, corrupt, and untrustworthy. You liked Unforgiven more but think it should have lost to Malcolm X? Yay, 10 imaginary points for you!
Like Samuel L Jackson said, (the two movies) they ain’t in the same ballpark, they ain’t even the same sport.
First negative comment on this video that’s been out over a year. I’ll take it for what it is though. A useless uneducated comment from someone who doesn’t know film criticism. Please though send me your reviews since you’re so educated on the matter? I’ve been doing this years buddy.
@@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia This is the first of your catalog of reviews I’ve seen, and while my tone may have sounded a little harsher than I intended, I stand by my remarks.
I am very familiar with both films, having seen Malcolm X and Unforgiven at the theater and having owned and watched both many many times in various formats over the years. Both deserved the awards and nominations they got, but they are vastly different movies. In all those years I have never thought that William Muny was saying “I’m the best” and I have never heard a single film critic, reviewer, or even casual viewer have that take on it.
Regarding your Malcolm X coronation, that sounded more like Kanye at the Grammys than an actual appraisal of the two films.
But this is just my critique on this particular Unforgiven 4K movie review video, and apparently I am the only one who has had that take on in in the year it was published
@AV84USA i’m not going to rewatch to know what I says but my take on william money is not that he’s the best but I think back in his day he was the best but it was fueled by the anger and alcohol and now he’s a shell of a man. You’re allowed to disagree. It’s film criticism. I don’t appreciate hostility. This is just my opinion. Maybe you don’t appreciate my time and energy but that’s fine. I stand by remarks as these are two of my favorite films and have seen both well over 10 times and have studied them. You can critique me just do it kindly. you don’t know me and i don’t know yo
I saw this at the movies and didn't like it. I saw it again twice on laserdisc and dvd and didn't like it. I don't see the love for this. DOLLARS TRIOLOGY, JOSEY WHALES, I see masterpieces not this.
I respect that. I love the dollars trilogy and the Outlaw Josey Whales but not as much as Unforgiven.
@@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia DOLLARS & JOSEY Soundtrack beats UNFORGIVEN. DOLLARS & JOSEY have more killing than UNFORGIVEN.
