    Thanks for the tutorial! Very helpful. Would have been even better to have mentioned what bolts you used to remove the rear rotors and also the torque specs for reinstalling the parts

    Good video but definitely wouldn't use anit seize on caliper bracket.. need lock tite. Learn that lesson a long time ago. I use to do that till i had 2 customers come back when their bolts wound up coming loose and fell out. So i quit doing that and lock tite them now. Haven't had a problem since. I recommend the blue type because the red just holds way too much and the next tech or next time you change can make it difficult to break loose. Go with the blue. Always use lock tite on things that have a high safety issue or things you definitely dont want coming loose. Otherwise awesome job. And also chock front tire! Saftey safety safety! 😁👍 Keep up the good vids!

      I used Toyota genuine pads and brembo rotors

    Anyone attempting to do brakes on the back make sure you don’t inadvertently depress the parking brake, people do that when they jack the car up and without thinking, they push the parking brake down which really pushes these drum brakes out and makes it hard to get the rotor off the back of the vehicle.

    Great instructional video! Was this done on a GX or 4Runner? Is it the exact same on each? I own a 2018 5th gen.

    Does parking brake only affect drivers side? Is it because parking brake was set before starting job, if don’t set it will I be good to not adjust? What happens if you don’t readjust parking brake instead just pop rotor off using the bolt to push out.

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  3 года назад

      Parking brake sets both sides. Everything depends on how tight the shoes are on the rotor when you pull them off, sometimes you don't to do anything and the rotors come off easy, other times they need persuasion. 👍

      Rear drivers side. I wasn’t able to get the dust cover back on as well as I would like. I didn’t want to risking tearing it using a flat head so I got it as well as could.

    How did pop the new pads in so easy? Mine are fighting me all the way..

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  Год назад

      You have to wire brush off the brake dust and put anti seize on the brake pad tabs

    PSA: " changing rear pads & rotors " - have a pair of chock/blocks securely on your front tires.
    Put car in "drive" & let the car coast then stop on the blocks. Now put it on Park. Put a another pair of blocks firmly on the inner.
    Now the important question: I have the vehicle blocked, I'm working on the rear brakes of a car with automatic transmission, is parking/emergency brake off ?
    Otherwise, you will have your rotored locked, won't spin, and you can't pull the rotor off.
    Lol ! Rookies ( like me ), do this boo boo all the time. It cost me a bent park shoe compression spring cup pin to fire out & never to be found. Two auto parts places & two dealerships didn't have the parking hardware kit in stock.

      I was doing this job last week, had it up in the air, everything apart. Had the parking brake off, but the vehicle was in park. Realized I needed to rotate the rotor around to line up the hole to access the adjuster, so I got in the vehicle to shift into neutral. Of course you need to step on the brake to do that, and I shot the piston right out of the caliper. Doh!

    I gotta ask - what was the size/thread of the bolt you used to pop the rotors free?

    Could you just take off the e-brake then slide the rotors off?

    • @PlatoonGarage
      @PlatoonGarage  3 года назад

      Generally when you disengage the ebrake the rotor should slide off, if it doesn't, that's when you have to try the other things
