  • Who is your audience? Did you just say 'all gamers' or 'hard core gamers?' To make the most of your limited resources you need to know who your audience is. Like REALLY know them. I am going to show you how.
You will learn the steps you need to take to have a better picture of your audience. You will learn how to figure out where they live, and what kind of games they are looking for so you can market in the right place with the right message. #gamedev #indiegamedev #gamedeveloper

It's valid take. Audience knows genre and games better than I do, specially as collective. What I did for years now is reading comments and review (specially negative ones) that many people upvote on steam for game genres I am interested in. I copy what resonates with me or many people find valuable, save and keep it. When time comes, I take all these comments, go through them, make bullet points, evaluate these points and apply to design principles. I really recommend doing that. You will see how many mistakes you could have avoid if you made these bullet points and made sure to check out some of them (for example no flashing/quickly moving images without warning or ability to turn it off for epilepsia players, no team grouping with red/green for color blinded people, make sure that your UI and controls are on point before creating a content. Very simple things that people value above anything else.

I think a lot of the stats stuff doesn't take into consideration art. That's much harder to record data on since some of the popular to make genres like platformers have terrible art. The games closest to one I am working on make a lot of money but they are the only ones in their field with good art.

Strategy game solds never be too much. And making of good strategy game is hard. Wishlist count is not equal sales count.
