    Watching this on November the 7th, 2022. Yesterday, on Sunday, I just finished my week by having read 13 books! 13 in a week. That's more than I've ever was able to read. I have been dedicating at least 1h of reading a day, plus dictionary reading for about 25mins. On some days of that week, I was able to read up to 6h! Going to start another week of reading and I'm pretty excited.

    I fell on your video back on juillet 2016, at that time there was no really frequency for my readings, I used to read sometime 3 or 4 books per month or only 1 a month depending on my schedule or mood. After discovering you, I decided to go for one book a week or may be two books per week base on the size of book. As a matter of fact, my goal was to end up with 50 or 52 books between december 2015 to december 2016, and I am glad to tell you that I did it, I read 52 books between December 2015 to 2016. I am from French speaking country, I have reading both French or English books. Through these lines, I just want to thank for inspiring me to go for one book a week, thanks a lot.
    Last thing I would to share with you, I got my first book published last October by l'Harmattan. The book is French, because my targeted audience was French speak coutries, nevertheless, I am about to translate it in English very soon.

    I have a thousand books. Mine are up in the cloud. I read a kindle. And you know what, they are cheap. Say ten bucks a book verses 30, 40 or so for current pop books.
    I work nights. Spend a lot of time sitting in the dark in my work. Love the kindle paperwhite

    Mortimer J. Adler's classic "How to read a book" is a great place to start, for those who might not have the higher level reading skills needed to get into the deeply involved books. (Tomes that might be slightly above our grasp) ... I find that it's encouraging me to read more in general, and with a lot more focus and finesse.

    This is an applicable, realistic and enjoyable method of how to do many things compacted in one:
    reading, time management, setting and achieving a great goal, aquire knowledge, and have a great fun time.
    When I search for "how to improve reading speed or efficiency", I find: how to read a book in 10 minutes; or how to read a book in a day, etc.
    and they are - as it is expected- turned out to be a disappointment. because I don't want to read a book in 10 minutes, I want to experience the whole journey that the book offers. I want to enjoy it as well as read it faster and comprehend the most of it better. This, is how to read a book faster and better. And we all know it really, consciously or subconsciously, that the best way is to put more effective time into it.
    Thank you.

    Another tip is to read the same amount each day, but from many books simultaneously. So it'll take you longer to get through a single book, but you'll be making progress in several books at the same time. This has benefits such as, a)when you get tired of your book, you can pick up another book and feel fresh and able to read for longer each day, b) because you'll be "in" each book over a longer period of time, you have longer to "be" with those characters, that story, and thus, long-term comprehension is greatly increased. Blast through a book in a week, and see how well you remember it in a year. But read that same book slowly, over several months (reading others concurrently), and you'll be amazed how much better you remember that book a year later.

    This is one of the best videos I have seen. A lot of good thoughts. I will have to try... do many of them. Reading 50 books a year will transform, and if you try but only read 30-40 books that will still have a very large impact. I will have to refer non book readers to this video, maybe that could start them on a good habit.

    Stephen King is a great proponent of taking advantage of those many, many snippets of "idle time" throughout the day to get in 5 minutes of reading here, 10 minutes of reading there, etc. It adds up! Keep a book with you at all times. Are you waiting in line? Read! Waiting for the bus? Read! A passenger in a car? Read! It adds up quickly and almost imperceptibly.

    I find 1 per week unrealisic. Some modern chart paperbacks are so quick I'll get through two. A play may take 2 hours. And then I read many very long (900) page books and classics that may take 2-3 wEeks. So most important for me is to make sure I read for at least 1hr a day (often more) I do get through roughly 50 per year but at a good pace.

  • @willowcandra
    @willowcandra 12 лет назад

    those are some really good tips though. (I think I average 2 hours a day, 5-6 at weekends.) Skipping nonsense tv and mindless surfing frees up so much reading time. I read when I cook.
    I read non fiction books at 1 chapter a day. It's amazing how they add up.

    • @jennyjenny3531
      @jennyjenny3531 6 лет назад +1

      I recommend reading from several different books simultaneously, spreading out your time in each book a bit more. Being in a book for only one week, those characters, that plot, those ideas don't have as much time to simmer in your mind. Whereas being in a book for, say, a month, or even longer, you really get a richer experience of that book, and will remember it far better a year or two later. Also, reading several books at the same time, if you get your fill of one book, you have a few others to choose from. I sometimes have 10 books going at once: fiction, non-fiction, detective story, classic, humour, etc. As far as which book, I'd recommend checking out goodreads. You can get ratings, reviews, etc. But because you asked, I will give a personal recommendation, (though I don't know your personal taste). A Tale of Two Cities (classic) by Dickens was eye-opening, enthralling, well-written, and the end was fantastic. Happy reading!

    • @lebronjames1741
      @lebronjames1741 6 лет назад

      Jenny Jenny thank you so much for ur reply !! U mean reading several books simultaneously would be better than just 1 book a week !! Okay !! • @lebronjames1741

      Jenny Jenny btw how much time do u spend in reading per day , and do you set specific target like completion of 4 books within a month or such ?

    • @jennyjenny3531
      @jennyjenny3531 6 лет назад

      Hi Alan, I do recommend reading from several different books, for the reasons above, and also, each book you're in is adding to the grand feast- ideas from each book bounce off eachother, you can compare similarities and differences, etc, and all of this happens without effort. But for me, the most important reason is that instead of being done with a book in one week ("wham, bam, thankyou mam"), you're really living in that book by stretching it out. A book you spent a week in will be like a fluff of memory compared to a book you simmered in for many weeks or even months.

    Cutting down on TV to read more is great advice - but the idea that you should fill every little break or pause in your day with a few pages would absolutely kill the pleasure I take in reading. Too much like a chore that has to get done. I'd much rather set aside a stretch of time at the end of the day that I can really get into reading - but I'm mostly a non-fiction reader. It's probably better advice for fiction readers who are looking for something to take them out of the moment.

    If we just want to read then it's okay ... But do u think that we ll nt forget the points or story of that book with a few months or years.... ???

    As cool as it may seem at first to read so many books Mike, i can't help but thinking that this fordism-like method can possibly destroy the pleasure of slow reading like imagining the scenes and getting the meaning and lessons from the book. What do you reckon? Cheers.

    I don't believe in those statistics, everyone I know, doesn't read any books. My mom, uncles, grandparents, etc, hasn't read a book since high school. Mostly everyone I know, hasn't read a book since school. I'll ask random people, some of which tell me they never read a book in their entire life, they passed test by going on spark notes. I talk to a TON of people. I met 1 girl who read maybe like 15 books in her life. Of course, being fictional, harry potter type books. Through my experience, the average person has not read 1 book on their own. I would say a good 50 percent of people, have not read 1 on their own. 30 percent of people read 1-5 books in a year. 15 percent read between 10-20. And 5 percent, or less read a book a week. I would say less than that. I think when people get surveyed, they don't like to seem dumb. Ask 10 random ass people, don't pressure them. Just be like "I haven't read a book since high school, it's so boring" how often do you guys read? That will not make them inflate their answer, because they'll feel comfortable others agree with them. And they'll tell you their real answers.

      Angeles Mena Yeah, I met a decent amount of who never read anything and took the failing grade for that. I don't know anyone who reads a book a week, besides me. And I only recently started that a couple months ago. You'll be lucky to find a person who read 1 book in the past year. I want to talk about books, but EVERYONE I talk too, doesn't read, ever. Sometimes I'll find a girl but it'll be like 5 books in the last year. All fiction bullshit non sense.

      Angeles Mena 1 book a month? Who do you surround yourself that reads that much? You said almost everybody around you does, do you go to an ivy league school or something? Are you involved in book clubs? Because that doesn't count. I'm talking on average, the average person.

      Ray Bradbury himself predicted in Fahrenheit 451(written in 1953) a society that have been plunged into materialism and cosumerism and doesn't read at all.

      @B9King937 , I agree with your statistics. Most people I know don't read at all. Here in Brazil it's even worse.

      Yeah, the statistics out there are definitely bullshit. They're so inflated it's ridiculous.

    I read so much books in a year I don't even bother to keep track any more. I literally don't know the exact amount a year.

    This almost makes me feel bad for only aiming for 26 books in 2017.

    I think you shouldnt do the "40 Pages a day"-Thing. Why push yourself? Do how you like. If you like the book you will probably read more then 40 just naturaly.

    I wanted to try something and I would like your opinion, Warren Buffett says to read 500 pages a day...is this possible? At least on days off, what do u think?
