I really think he could bring something to the team. Kane drops back and plays like a target man/number 10, deeney could play a similar role and be stronger in it. Kane could then be a proper number 9 or you could even play sterling off him. Should at least get a game or two.

Deeney's 30 years old, he'll be 32 by the time Euro 2020 rolls around. He wants to integrate young players who can play the way he wants to play. Deeney doesn't fit the mould simple as that. Kane and Rashford are the first two choice strikers. Welbeck is in ahead of him because of his work rate, versatility and his goal record for England is actually very good, as well as having the experience of several tournaments.

True. He's on the fringes and if Southgate needs to add a fringe player because of injuries or form then he's more likely to try to integrate a kid with potential to try to reap the future benefits rather than a 30 year old+. Deeney's best hope is he has a sparkling scoring run for a few months and breaks in late in his career like Rickie Lambert did. It's probably unlikely but not impossible.

When the rumours went around that he was maybe eligible to play for Northern Ireland a while back I was excited because his style of play would've been a perfect fit for us a club style team within the international game he'll never get a game under Southgate deferent styles.

Southgate likes his players to have integrity and be role models. Deeney has a criminal conviction for repeatedly kicking a teenager in the head whilst he was already on the ground. He will never play for Southgate, and rightly so.

Class interview from Mr Deeney back then but I'm sure a reckless incident put paid to his England chances. He looks to have had a life changing moment after his jaunt in prison and become a better person for it, I'm sure he realised what a privilege it is to be skillful enough to play in the EPL with the financial rewards it brings. Deeney has just left Watford, he had the chance to play for some big clubs but decided to sign for his boyhood and home town club Birmingham City; truth be known he could have earned twice as much at a bigger club but his heart is at Birmingham and he lives only 20 minutes from the Training ground....... Best of luck with your new venture Troy, I hope you and Lee Bowyer are the catalyst to wake up the underperforming Blues....

not a watford fan so i don't get to see him as much as others but, from what little i have seen, i feel like deeney did not give himself enough credit when asked what he would bring. he's not just a target man or just a leader - though he is great at both - he is just a damn fine football player, period.
