    3 men broke into my condo here in Chicago RIDGE, IL .
    I was forced to shoot & kill one of them with my Glock 17 gen 3 , loaded with Corbon 125 grain + p .
    As the first man broke down my door I shot him dead center in the chest - he immediately was incapacitated, forcing thee other 2 men to take flight before they ended up shot next .
    This round works , I’m living proof , I carry nothing but Corbon & so does my family , I pray you do as well .

    So glad to find you did this test of the CorBon 125gr out of a 3" Barrel!
    Every test I have seen (which are few and far between) of this round shows it's truly devastating .
    It's what I carry in my Hellcat!

    Both preformed well ,would love to see how each preform out a longer barrel or full size gun ! 9mm had a lil more boogie ,but the 38 still had enough boogie to get the job done!

    Carrying the Underwood 125 +P's in a Smith 342 Ti. It seems like I have made a good overall choice. Thanks for the review!

    So first of all, there is no way in hell the 38spl is more powerful than the 9x19 Parabellum, +P or not, I've been doing this for 58 years, and was a deputy sheriff back in the early 80s, my duty & EDC was and is the 357-Magnum, five years ago I picked up a compact 9x19, and most of my EDC in the 9mm are +P & +P+, In the 357 I use Remington 125gr SJHP and they get the job done period. I've been subbed to your channel for awhile, just don't reply often, THX for posting.🇺🇸

      You're not wrong, mostly. 9mm, being slightly younger than 38, was built to much higher chamber pressure specs. 38 has the case capacity advantage, but unless you know the secret powders used by Buffalo Bore and Underwood, you still can't load 38 (even +P) to anywhere near the muzzle energy of 9mm. However, the 158 grain +P hardcast loadings produced by Buffalo bore and Underwood will produce more muzzle energy than any 9mm +P load I'm personally aware of. The 158 grain +P lead semi-wadcutter hollow points are not far behind, but there are competitive 9mm +P loadings. That said, I do not like shooting those high end +P loads from my little LCR.

    I carry either the underwood 125 grain XTP rounds in my 442 smith or the Corbon 110 grain DPX rounds, and of course a crimson trace laser boot grip on it.

    Any chance you could do some tests on the underwood 125 grain plus p XTP 38 special load from the lcr? I haven’t been able to find the gold dot loading for awhile and bought a couple boxes of the xtp loading but it would be nice to see you do a video test with chronograph and denim and gel on them. Thanks!

      Thanks for the request. I'll look for some. Right now Underwood is only selling the XTP loaded version of their super-hot 38+P, but if you only want he Hornady I'll try and locate some.

  • @Fudmottin

    I'm by no means knowledgeable on terminal ballistics. But that 8/7ths energy advantage of the Corbon didn't seem all that helpful. Yes, it expanded a little larger. But it lost penetration doing it. I imagine the Corbon had a larger temporary wound cavity. It obviously had more power. How much of a difference does that make?

    • @GeographyCzar
      @GeographyCzar  2 года назад +1

      Zero difference, IMHO. I'd take the .38s in this case. Thanks for stopping by, Fudmottin! It's always nice to see a fellow "guntuber" who is a regular fan.

    Fine job of testing as always, thanks.
    If Underwood ever had the bonded 125gr (Gold Dot) load in stock I’d order the hell out of it, Lol.
    They pretty much always have the corresponding load that uses the XTP bullet which doesn’t like to expand nearly as well, especially out of a snub nose barrel.

    Great thing about that .38 Special is it's pretty available. I am ordering some more soon for my 3" Taurus, but that batch says XTP instead of bonded.

    • @Fudmottin
      @Fudmottin 2 года назад

      Underwood makes both XTP and Bonded. The 127 is XTP and the 128 is Bonded. Otherwise, I think both loads are identical. Certainly the velocities are the same on the box. I haven't had a chance to run them head to head. It would be a good bullet construction comparison.

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam 2 года назад

      @@Fudmottin What I have seen is that Bonded Gold Dot bullets are varying on their bullet toughness. The hollow point Gold Dot, sometimes called the short barrel Gold Dot...or regular Gold Dot in 9mm, .45 ACP .40 S&W etc is a pretty light duty bullet, expands easily. Then the original Gold Dot, that weird one that's sometimes called a hollow cup, with the indented tip that's not really a hollow point - that one is tough and won't expand a 158 gr .357 at even 1,100 FPS. The XTP is sort of in the middle, not expanding as easily as a hollow point Gold Dot but easier than a hollow cup Gold Dot.

    • @Fudmottin
      @Fudmottin 2 года назад

      @@GunSam The underwood loading seems to be using "short barrel" Gold Dots. Apart from bullet weight (and length hidden in the case), I can't tell them apart. They are definitely NOT the deep curl nonsense.
      I see XTPs fail to open well in a lot of tests There are exceptions of course. So they do penetrate more. It would be interesting to see the Underwood loadings side by side. The XTPs are a bit cheaper for a box of 20. I think the price split was $5, IRRC. The only thing I can make of that is that the Speer bullet costs more than the Hornady one.
      Anyway, what I was feeling was that the Speer and Underwood had what seemed to be about the same felt recoil. Obviously that is subjective. But I fired both loadings from the same gun inside a one hour time frame. I think there was a point of impact shift, but I'm not really sure.

    • @GeographyCzar

    The answer to which is more powerful 9mm VS 38 SPL has been raging on for years. Many 9mm loads are hotter than 38 SPL. However, some 38 SPL +P rounds are as powerful and sometimes more powerful than 9mm even in the 9mm +P or +P+. The Buffalo Bore 158 grain hard cast Outdoorsman +P 38 SPL is the most powerful load I know of at 1250 fps with its 158 grain hard cast bullet. No 9mm loading regardless of the amount of ++s on the +P can compete with this load. With a proper load for the purpose at hand, both are excellent cartridges.

      Needs a 6” barrel to get those velocities.
      When fired from a 4” barrel, it’s basically the same ballistic performance as Underwood or Buffalo Bore’s fastest 147gr 9mm

    The two can’t be compared no matter the ammo! Always find out the barrel length the manufacture is testing, the chronograph the bullet they are putting on the box. Buffalo boy usually is pretty true to using a 4-6inch barrel in their hand gun ammo. That 38 ammo was most likely tested out of a 6 to 8 inch barrel

      Not really. The LCR has a 1.9" barrel, and the GX4 has a 3.06" barrel, but... it's not fair to compare because they measure autos differently than revolvers. I match up overall gun size, because I feel that's what really counts in concealed carry.
