A lot of great shows struggle to stick the landing on their ending but this show definitely succeeded on that front. What a show.

This show delivered what Game of Thrones failed to do. It started under the radar, and was largely overlooked until Season 3 when it really gathered momentum. It followed that up with 2 very strong seasons to close off the series. Lets hope 7 Kings must die will give it the glorious conclusion.

@@lk5388 i think the fact that Last Kingdom was niche and under the radar is what allowed the show to start great and continue to be great from start to finish. one of the many factors and reasons for why Game of thrones and so many shows suffer in the end is because they blow up and get so popular. the Last Kingdom gained a large audience but it was never aiming for those Game of thrones level numbers. it also had a finished Source martial to adapt as well. the final 3 books came out while the show was being made and they are getting adapted in a special.

hey Keiran - modern advances in medicine do extend the lifespans of those that have the means to afford it, but unless i am mistaken, the median lifespan of adults then and now is not too much different. the historical number looks a lot lower when comparing the average lifespans since a lot of people died in their youth back in the day (take this with a grain of salt, but im fairly confident that the "significantly increased lifespan" thing is a misconception)

To be honest i never really cared for osferth. He seemed really underdeveloped and underused in earlier seasons and didn't really seem well executed for me. That said i started wondering what the reasoning behind this was: could it be the writers did not have time to give him a bit more screen time and to better explore his feelings towards being a bastard? Could it be the actor wasn't as good as he should have been? I didn't know what the problem was, and i didn't really care for him or like him until i shaw him die in season five.
I just tore up inside with the actor's performance, he just delivered it so well and showed that in a world of battle hardened warriors who fear nothing and go to death with strength, there are still pretty normal humans who prefer living to dying. "Don't let me die Finan" was a lot more touching than the "I don't wanna die" delivered by Ivar ragnarsson in vikings. Hands of to the actor of Osferth, be did a great job.

I find this season so hard to watch. I simply cannot binge it and have to put a couple of days aside before I watch another. So far 5 episodes and I can understand why the author left Brida somewhat adrift. The show bringing her back as some female viking warrior, abusing her child in the process, only to fail and loose that child when Uhtred could have saved her. In Brida's one and only battle, she failed. I confess the show's take on Brida could have had a satisfying conclusion last season with the birth of a child that meant more than vengeance.
Each episode packs a punch, the scheming and politics are engaging. The show makes it clear that it takes time for "real" news to travel and the consequences of planted of misinformation are dire and heart breaking for all.

What would have happened to Sigtrygger if Uhtred had just told him, "You know, I've been baptized twice. It's just a little water on the head and it doesn't mean anything if you don't want it to mean anything?" but before Ubba threatened to kill him, Ubba was busy interrogating the King Edmund of East Anglia. Edmund told him that he wanted Ubba to get baptized. Ubba looked back at Uhtred for a translation, and Uhtred said: "You must stand in a barrel of water, and they pour more water over you." and in a confused state, Ubba responded, "They want to wash me?!?" lolol
