I am thinking the "snap t face" function is handy in a lot of cases where the material can be made very precisely formed, like steel, which can be worked to a precision of few thousands of a milimeter. But I am also thinking, that with materials that aren't perfect, maybe it doesn't ruin everything that it's a little bit off, becaue that's how it would be in reality.
I am a furniture designer currently migrating from CAD into Blender and this is exactly what i needed! I am forever grateful for this and the chair, please go on with these product series and the archviz tutorials. Thanks again!
I am not a beginner, i have been working in the industry for 20 yrs now. One thing i like to do is to relax and follow tutorials like you know nothing. It is almost like trying to be a noob. The good thing about that it will bring you down to the earth and you will learn a lot of a things. So for this i restarted to work on this with the new blender 4, and guess what the new snap features came in handy a lot. Anyways Guru, thanks for these tutorials you put out into the world which is helping a lot of people including me improve their knowledge and workflow. For newbies how to use the snap feature is for eg if you need to move and you press g and then press the alphabet relative to the axis you want to move, if it is x axis press x on your keyboard. Now press B and you will be able to select either a corner or vertex point or and edge and then move that to snap it to another object vertex or edge.
ooh he did something called back-formation! it's when you make a new word out of an existing word by analogy by removing a supposed affix. he took the plural form of "vertex", "vertices" /ˈvəɹtɪsiz/, (subconsciously) assumed the /-z/ at the end was a plural suffix, and removed it to get the supposed singular form that is "verticee" /ˈvəɹtɪsi/
I really dont think the modeling part is boring, I think is actually relaxing, it's like colouring those mandala things, but more rewarding. And watching you do it, I always learn something. Thank you for your teachings.
Andrew's tutorials are so refreshingly good compared to all the other stuff that try to model things you don't need or try to model a most complicated scene in 60 seconds or tell us for the hundredth time to become a patreon and click the bell icon and so on. This here is how tutorials should be. Thanks a lot!
First the doughnut, then the chair, and now a couch. Thank you for making these tutorials and explaining them so effectively. Normally I would get bored to death and lose attention, but you're so engaging by the way you're describing each step and restating the shortcut keys as you go. Your stories are also great to listen to- It gives me a chance to take a breather and stay motivated!
If you click "display only axis aligned" in the image properties, the reference images will only show up when you hit the numpad keys. It's so nice to not have them in the way when you're just looking around the model (they're essentially worse than useless anyway since nothing lines up outside of the direct side, front or top views), but pop up when you need them. Also when your reference has both a front and a back elevation, you can choose which side it shows up from. Which is super handy
Eyy! Hope you're doing well with your child and all :) Would just like to thank you for being THE main contributor for me switching to Blender, transferring from Maya has been an absolute breeze thanks to you and a few other youtubers. I'ts actually helped my career in a big way and I just wanted to thank you for that.
Really appreciate you taking the slow and informative approach to your tutorials. The more detail about the process the better as far as I am concerned. It may seem slow as far as you are concerned when it comes to making he tutorials but from the learning end it pays off in the long run. Thanks.
I am enjoying these next-stage tutorials. Unlike the donut tutorial, I’m not following the. step by step but I am watching them in full. I’ve been doing a few post-donut projects if my own and these modelling tutorials are really helping show me tips, shortcuts and corrections to improve my results. Thanks for all the hard work!
If you have problems when you add the mirror to the back part of the sofa because it makes your back part not as long as the bottom part of the sofa, put the origin point to the geometry (with bottom part selected, click right boton-->Set origin-->Origin to Geometry). The center point of your bottom part of the sofa wasn't in the middle.
I am on the video before the last one on the donut and I appreciate your work. Thanks a lot! I started learning blender with this series and I've learn so much. I created two plates(one by myself), a donut, a cup, a counter top, a wall, coffee, and I made an animation and some days ago I couldn't even move the blender interface . I will surely check that video after completimg the light series you made. So yeah! Continue with the amazing job!!! I am so so so glad I came across your channel!
as always im so grateful for having this tutorial for free! I somehow managed to mess this up so much, i had to redo so many times, but i feel like i finally made something sofa-like.
I don't think I ever commented but damn you made me find a new hobby in life, thank you Andrew, even just watching your tutorials is fun. Also someone mentioned a weapon tutorial next time so that would be cool
Your voice and your accent and your way of teaching is clear and easy to understand even for elementary class which i love it so much because i can't learn fast, so i like to listen carefully and try it again and again until i can do it. It feels so good that first time in my life i actually designed a 3D. i dunno how to explain my feeling but you are the hero of Blender!
If you have rotated the Couch feet (11:20) in Edit mode you wont be able to double tap X (11:50) to get the local axis because when you transform in edit mode the object origin is not transformed
i completed the donut tutorial, and ive been using blender for over a month and now its getting easier and easier, thanks for the awsome tutorials mate
I'm so exited. Just began using blender. Literally, I just ended the chair tutorial few hours ago, my donut is done and I'm also making the ice cream! Now a couch! Dude Tha ks for ur tutorials, really
Whenever he laughed sarcasticly he managed to predict with precision ,things that I didn't do correctly while following the tutorial. He is a legend ! 😇
heya! I learned a lot from you, and this time, I am doing following the tutorial for 2nd time after 6 months since I didn't half of it the first time... anyways... few things, since you like recommendations... Alt+R and Alt+G will set the image to the origin... Aaand... Make a cube, bring it above the axis, select Vertice, snap 3D cursor to it change Transform Pivot to 3d, align the image and ZAP! scale the image in 1 singe go... thanks again!
6:00 for select only the line press number 3 and press E then u can expand the box, u can also press number 1 and 2 to select the line. thank me later. (sorry bad english)
Don’t even have blender because I’m away from my computer but I still love watching your videos. When I saw you in my inbox I instantly clicked. Great tutorial, keep up the good work :)
Thanks for take the time to share with us your knowledge. I don't know why exist people that hate all the things (for yours dislikes). I really appreciate that be so specific with your videos. Thanks a lot and go ahead.👏
I actually really got addicted to watching you time lapse model the couch in what was it, 2.5 or 2.6? This is great to share that again! I think that original video was when you promoted the architecture academy but now that course is closed. So it’s great to see this!
for the snap it to face function there is an alternative which after you select all three faces of the right side of the couch in edit mode then press that. not y or z but x only
For me, the sofa legs worked better to first apply the scale, *before* extruding, etc. Then, *before* rotating it 45 degrees, I modeled the shape according to the blueprint, rather than trying to model the taper after rotating it. Also, not sure if Andrew will get to this in a later tutorial, but the legs are actually two parts: the main chrome section plus a black leveler (not sure if that's what it is, but that's what it looks like in the reference photos), which is cylindrical. For us nitpicky perfectionists. ☺
8:10 I did not want to use the loop cut(don't know why), so i used knife tool to create an edge and extruded it out. Is there a reason why loop cuts should be used over creating edges with knife ???
If you guys have trouble mirroring those couch legs ( 9:50 ) i.e., those legs are away from the mirrored object (the first couch layer), just make sure that its SET ORIGIN TYPE is ORGIN TO GEOMETRY. Hope this is helpful :)
I always struggled with mirror modifier because I didn't know that you can select object and mirror. whenever I used mirror I would just have to manually set object origin and then after trial and errors, I may or may not get the desired result. Thanks to you now i can work alot easily with mirror modifier now
Thanks for another great tutorial. It would be great if you can tell us a bit more about how you find those reference images and blueprints. I find myself too reliant on the reference you provided, and when I try to build something on my own I just can't find any useful blueprints to work with.
The DropBox Link is down ... FYI But acctually - There is a PDF on the Website - just took a Screenshot an adjusted a bit ... never mind ... Thanks for the tutorial!
Just want to say your videos are amazing! I've learnt much more from them like the double tapping x, y or z for local instead of world has helped a lot! Thanks brother!
In previous tutorials , you explained to us how to do in many ways, and how to solve in many many many ways too, regardless of what you are modeling Whether a chair or dounat. I don't really blame you, many viewers don't know that you are basically not modeling just a chair before. Now you are explaining only couch :P
Thank you for NOT speeding over the 'simple' and 'dull' modelling parts of the tutorial series. It's incredibly useful for Blender beginners
Yes and it took me 2 hours

13:00 If anyone having a problem with mirroring the legs which I did. Check the geometry's origin point and F3, set origin, origin to geometry. bye
I knew I'll find a solution in comments. Thx.

you have only thousands? You clearly missed the tutorial with the millions ;-)

Try the Donut tutorial first...

no no it's ok you guys I'm sure he meant to say "Vertex" mode instead of "Verticee" mode.
Accept the fact he said it man its ok
ooh he did something called back-formation! it's when you make a new word out of an existing word by analogy by removing a supposed affix. he took the plural form of "vertex", "vertices" /ˈvəɹtɪsiz/, (subconsciously) assumed the /-z/ at the end was a plural suffix, and removed it to get the supposed singular form that is "verticee" /ˈvəɹtɪsi/
While it's technically “vertex”, Andrew is still the GOAT for Blender tuts. So he can call it whatever he wants as far as I'm concerned.
verticie is "face" old name
i'd rather call it edit mode
I really dont think the modeling part is boring, I think is actually relaxing, it's like colouring those mandala things, but more rewarding. And watching you do it, I always learn something. Thank you for your teachings.
