Personally I'd prefer to see the enchantment table and anvil systems be reworked. The villager tied to the biome seems to be a "fix" without a real fix.

    • @Nephelangelo
      @Nephelangelo Месяц назад +4

Yeah, the problem is that the villager trading system has been used as a sloppy fix for the problems of the enchantment system and the durability system, forcing players to rely on trading for enchantments, especially Mending, rather than use the enchantment system or repair system. I think a better solution would be to fix the enchantment system so players didn’t have to rely on trading. For example, instead of having all enchantment use lapis lazuli, you would have to use the game’s full variety of material to obtain specific enchantments, similar to brewing. For example, phantom membrane combined with spider’s web could be used as a chance to get Mending or Silk Touch. Something along those lines. This would reduce the players’ desperate reliance on villager trading. I also think reworking the durability system by lowering material costs of repair, and no longer having items disappear when broken but instead take on a “broken” state and be unusable until repaired, would eliminate players’ desperate reliance on Mending. Because villager trading has been calibrated to make up for enchantment and repair systems being broken, I don’t think it can be fixed until the others are fixed as well.

Anvild dont break from proper use... maybe if one was left outside in the rain, there would be a degridation process like aging copper, but it would eventually rust and be unuseable. I certainly hope they've dropped these ideas for villager rebalancing. While well intentioned, I think these biome specific trades would be highly detrimental to player creativity.
It's the equivalent of saying, "Hey, player! You know that amazing idea you had for Mediterranean city built in a savanna biome? Or that grand library you wanted to build in your city? They're useless now, because we're going to give those biomes limited and garbage trades for being too common."
It creates multiple levels of negative reinforcement that discourages players from building and creating things that could be amazing.

Out of the proposed changes, I think Mojang could still use some of their ideas...... they just needed to weed out the bits that were a REALLY bad idea. The big thing I've said since the beginning of this nurf idea is that they needed to think about the players who didn't have the confidence to roam thousands of blocks from spawn as well as the people who just didn't have the time. They were the ones who would ultimately suffer the most. There were still a couple of bits that would definitely be a good idea to look into.
The first was actually the Wandering Trader..... you know, the guy who keeps leaving you free leads.... which is what most people used him for. Being able to buy a wider range of items from the Trader as well as being able to sell items to the Trader would be a huge benefit to the game, and it would mean that people are actually excited to see the Trader arrive.
The second thing I thought was going to be great was adding more maps for the Cartographer. I know they've added the Trial Chambers map to the maps that would be available, but I think that adding the maps to other villagers would be really helpful to the people I mentioned above. This would mean that people who don't have the confidence or time to look for other villages would be able to explore further with the conference that they would still be able to get home again afterwards. This would be awesome even without the rest of the nurfs that were suggested.
The only other point that I would like to see is something from the Fletchers station...... ANYTHING!!! Please, I'm really begging here!!!!! 🥺🥺🥺

Its not just the villager nerfs ... its the focus on such meaningless early/mid game stuff & still zero investment into a better "end game"
Its this Mojang philosophy of reigning in people to play for two weeks before quitting of exhausting themselves of everything new & old instead of wanting people to create long-term worlds like Dallasmed65 where they're adding things that are useful to those who've already seen it all & just want more ways of making MASSIVE builds easier.
Does the villager nerfing hurt? Yes. But imo its their update formula of letting people "preview" (aka spoil everything early), slow progress updates (with solo modders putting out more effort) & the direction of those updates (mainly discovery things that are underwelming & not very rewarding at all especially for those who already had existing worlds)
How about special charms that allow me to levitate when building (like in creative but obviously not in creative) or have a cape that gives me unlimited beacon ability range?
How about new enchantments that make sense (like LavaWalker or Shock or other very basic equivolents to already existing enchantments)?
How about new crops that offer aesthetic & food options (new two tall crops like Corn to better food options like Steak & Eggs, Bacon Potatos, Popcorn, etc.)?
How about basic peices that should already exist (from concrete slabs/stairs to copper lanterns to iron rods)?
Idk maybe its me but I just wish they did more for people who are invested in the long term. The people who actually care about the updates & watch these types of videos.

I really hope the enchantment system works more like the trim system. Like instead of being frustratingly rng you can somewhat control the outcome with what extra material you put into the enchantment table? Spider web for a increased chance of silk touch, actual feathers for feather falling, obsidian for blast resistance, amethyst for fortune, etc.
Maybe you are still not guaranteed to get exactly what you want, but you can at least better weed out what you don't want. Maybe putting haybales in the table raises the projectile protection by a small percentage, but mostly importantly prevents the other types of protection from rolling at all.
So say like I have a chest plate I want to enchant with blast resistance and unbreaking, I can put in some obsidian and it'll either be one or the other, with a slight chance of both.
That would make everything better instantly, and it'll still be interesting to figure out what material to use for which gear.

The let-them-forget strat is just a natural result of the way the community has reacted. Unfortunate, but that's just the situation. I just hope they pull the wandering trader changes out from the experimental datapack. That's such a change for the better.
And yeah, new omen system effectively nerfs raid farms, which in part rebalances villagers. A core flaw that made villagers so busted is how cheap trades became due to how simple and efficient the process of raid farms made getting emeralds and the villager rebalances never addressed any of that.

6:09 this is incorrect, it did come to the game, but the change was experimented on bedrock/pocket/console versions.
the most annoying change was the removal of blocking with a sword, that was made to enforce using a shield, and changes to how timing your crouches no longer mitigates knockback, among many other changes. the removal of these made a bit of a fuss, but only on the console/pocket/bedrock communities and thus, mojang decided not to impliment it into java edition.

The problems with the villager trading system are very much intertwined with the problems of the game’s other systems, like enchanting and durability. I’ve thought about these problems a lot and these are some of my suggested solutions:
    1. Items are no longer destroyed when broken, but take on a “broken” item state and can’t be used again until repaired. This lessens player’s reliance on villager trading for Mending and is far more fun to collect and restore broken items.
    2. It now costs less material to fully repair an item than it costs to craft a new item. This also lessens player reliance on Mending enchantment and no longer discourages players from using the repair system due to insanely high costs.
    3. Enchantment system is redesigned to use the game’s full variety of materials, similar to the brewing system, in order to achieve specific enchantments, not just lapis lazuli. This would also lessen players’ reliance on villager trading to obtain Mending and give players much greater involvement in obtaining specific enchantments, while still keeping certain enchantments rare due to rarity of materials, as well as give the game’s enormous variety of items new purpose and value. For example, a unique combo like phantom membrane combined with spiders’ web could be used to achieve Mending, or another enchantment.
    4. Villager trading discount now has a maximum of 50% reduction in cost. This is more than enough of a benefit, having everything priced at 1 emerald is obviously overpowered and broken. This higher cost would also preserve the value of emeralds.
    5. Diamond gear is no longer available in villager trading at all, due to the fact that renewable diamond gear is insanely overpowered and completely devalues diamonds.
    6. Villager trading now only works with naturally generated workstations. This is meant to discourage the dreadfully de-immersive villager trading halls, which have no resemblance to the gameplay experience of actually trading with a villager. Now you have to go find a villager with the enchantment you want by exploring.
    7. Villagers can now be armed with swords and defend themselves against zombies and other mobs. This would reduce the need to trap them to keep them safe, thereby enabling more natural, less player-controlled, behavior.

I like 1, 2 and 3, agree that 4 is better, but strongly disagree with 5 and 6... 7 is iffy... there are free range systems that are safe for the Villagers, but I also remember a time I tried this sort of thing and could never find the Villager I wanted because they all look alike (it was Version 1 Villagers, bred with Doors).
To 'fix' player reliance on Villagers the Devs should go back to the beginning of Enchantment and make the changes to the Enchantment Table, Anvil and Grindstone (I know it is newer, but it fits here and could be better used - maybe to take Enchants off of Gear and onto Books?).
The Anvil needs to never say "Too Expensive" again. I like your idea with the Enchantment Table, and there are other changes that could be made as well.
Villager Trading is the only real way to get Diamond Gear in a Sky Block map. Yes, it is niche, but so are most things.
What I found distasteful about the proposed Villager changes is that it was mostly "The Devs don't want you to play like this, they want you to play like that" which ruins the sandbox " infinite wonders, endless possibilities" idea that built Minecraft to begin with.
Also, if they had really wanted Players to travel, then they would have made it so Horses fit in Boats on Java instead of taking away Horses in Boats in Bedrock. They could not figure out how to do so, therefore they do not need to try and force the player base into traveling which is painfully slow, dangerous and annoying.
The Wolf changes are a much better idea to get Players moving around their worlds (inviting corruption as well, oh what fun!!) to collect them all, or at least their favourites.

I think villager trading is one of those things that simply shouldn’t be subject to player manipulation at all, the player should have to adapt to the limits of the trading system. The fact that it can be manipulated illustrates that it is a broken system. Villager trading halls are not some curiously repurposed redstone exploit that produces fascinating gameplay mechanics, they are simply broken gameplay, an exploit, a cheat basically, that produces nothing but dull menu clicking activity and an over abundance of cheap resources, which disincentivizes participation in actual gameplay. Not only should villager trading halls not be incentivized by the game, they should not be possible, whatsoever. It’s an abomination of failed game design. @@d4r4butler74

    1) the anvil either increase the experience cap or remove it.
    2) buff the enchantment table so higher tier results and multiple enchants are more likely.
Notice how underutilized the enchantment table is rn… I don’t mind the villager rework cause it’s still somewhat overpowered (if you’re near the right biomes) unlike spamming lecterns it’s a CONFIRMED master trade. I do agree that the enchantment level for unbreaking etc should me max, but if they remove the experience cap on the anvil it wouldn’t be that big of a deal

In a friends world I play in some, There is no swamp for at least 3000 blocks. I don't have the seed to his world so I'm just going on what I've explored for a few maps. I think a better way to handle librarians is to have them sell the same type enchantment but increasing the value as they unlock. I.E. if they have efficiency 1 at novice, you know they will have efficiency 4 or 5 at master. I also think mending should be taken off trading (stay with me) and added to structure loot tables. Makes it a bit rarer and gives you a reason to actually go in a woodland mansion

The server I play on has implemented the villager nerf… my opinion is that it is terrible, but on my server it has mixed opinions!
The TLDR is: I hope they don’t include the villager nerf in the next official update, but it won’t ruin the game. (And will actually benefit those willing to do the leg work to obtain the villagers for a book shop).
Not ONLY do librarians need to be “Biom specific”, but in fact they limit the levels of the books (My team mate insisted on selling books, so we have bank in diamonds), but for like efficiency V it required 4 books (as max trade level is eff III… III + III X2 IS 4) and that I’d rediculously expensive and then requires any player looking for max enchantment armor, you MUST use the enchanting table to maximize your ability to prevent a “Too Expensive “ situation (so the grind goes from swapping lectures to grinding the enchanting table at speed farms). Other players try to charge a lot for books, but once you’ve established a decent trading setup with access to leather and paper for books… it’s still easy to corner a market a 1 diamond per book.
For armorers, it’s not even really worth it anymore except to trade iron for ingots (but also I maxed a taiga villager not knowing the biom specific was changing them either). I have jungle tool and weapon smiths and they’re still kinda worth it.
On my server, lots of people are looking forward to the raid farm nerfs (as some think that the totem drops are over powered, I just think newer farms will include just a potion filter and use some gunpowder to make splash for dispensers to splash healing and ominous splash potions onto the player. (To continue with ongoing raids. Also the ability to stop a raid and return without a need to seek out an outpost)
My server is only on the 1.20.4 release and not doing snapshots at the moment, so we have trial chambers and trial keys, but nothing else afterwards (so I’ve been mainly stripping all the copper and tuff stuff out of them, as it’s better than a copper farm or mining for copper ore to smelt for blocks).

    THE MENDING PROBLEM
I called it the mending problem, but in reality enchanting sistem and anvil are the real problem. how to fix them? I will describe a few changes from the easiest to implement to the harder ones:
    1) remove "too expensive" and the incremental cost for every repair on the anvil. Make the anvil never break.
    2) make the anvil only cost material and not exp, or make it cost only one material for every full repair and keep exp cost. (Trident would use prismarine shars)
    3) make the anvil only cost one material for every full repair and remove exp cost. (Trident would use prismarine shars)
With every step, the nerf of mending, or the nerf of its accessibility, becomes more doable, but there still is a problem, the fricking rng in the enchanting system. So more steps:
    4) the feature of adding enchants to an already enchanted tool is now an enchanting table feature. Now enchanting is not rng, and both enchant a new tool and adding a new enchant costs some material, the materials needed depends on the enchant you want and the level of the enchant. Now this can be balanced in a lot of ways so I'll give you my take on it with a few examples: All enchants would require lapis, then you add two different material one to determine the level of the enchant and one for the type, the material for the type would be something common (at least for most enchant), for the level my idea is nothing for lv1, amethyst for lv2, quarz for lv3, ??? for lv4, and dragon breath (or diamonds??) for lv5, enchant that do not reach lv5 will scale differently following the same materials (unbreaking would follow lv1 to lv3, protection can go from lv2 to lv5). Enchanted books can be used instead of the materials in the enchanting table and you can enchant books using materials. (The materials used here are just an example and I would be happy anyway if changed). Exp would still be needed and would depend on the enchant, bookshelves would be either needed for higher level enchants or to reduce exp cost.
    5) finally, you can implement the experimental features for villagers that mojang showed us, but make the mending book either relatively common loot of ancient cities or a loot for end cities.
    6) bonus cool but maybe controversial idea, to add some more progression to the enchanting table itself, too obtain mid level enchants you would need something from the nether, for high level enchants something from the end (even something craftable with just netherrack and endstone just to temporary lock higher level enchants to progression). This could be in the form of an upgraded enchanting table or bookshelf.
    7) another idea, make even the enchanting table not require exp. Exp would be ONLY gained when you complete an advancement and would be useless, just a way to tell "how good you are". (Exp would not be lost on death anymore).
With all those fixes mending would be both less needed and there would be two reliable way of finding it (the shorter in the correct structure, if it has to be ancient city maybe add an explorer map for it, the longer using swamp villager). Enchanting table would be way more viable than villager trading in the short term, villager trading would be more a long term option for not spending material and since the enchants are sold depending on the biome would be incredibly reliable to obtain what you want.
Now there is one last problem, netherite tools would still be hard to repair, there are a few options (described from easiest to implement to hardest):
    1) boost netherite tools durability a lot (like more than 5 times) especially for armor (10 times? More?)
    2) netherite tools require only diamonds to repair. (an alternative is using only scraps and not the ingot, but its an half solution imo)
    3) make netherite easier to find, my idea is to add a mining potion that allows to see ores (and netherite) through blocks in a range (off course in a range that needs to be defined and to brew the potion maybe something from the end), this would make mining actually scale with progression.
    4) make netherite tools actually unbreakable BUT netherite would only be found in bastion in a locked vault as ingots, so no more netherite mining. The key for the vault is either dropped by brutes, that need to respawn every once in a while, or is a bartering trade (makes less sense imo). You would need to explore 4-5 bastion to complete a set but they would be unbreakable. This would make netherite tool super precious and losing them would be a pain, so there is the need to add a a SUPER RARE treasure enchantment to solve this, soulbound when you die the item stays with you. Going for the full set would be the real final goal.

I've never really liked how people have been super reliant on villagers, I feel people have been too lazy with how overpowered villagers are. Minecraft is a sandbox game, and grinding for emeralds and enchantments by being afk at a farm is just boring. (In my opinion)
The structures having exclusive enchants is super cool in my opinion, which seems to be what everyone forgot about. It actually makes you know what you're gonna get when you go to a specific structure. I feel this will make people finally stop being lazy and actually explore.

I personally would change Mending so that you would need Diamonds to repair in Diamond item (idk about Netherite) but with Mending it would never be destroyed but be broken and there will no end to repair it. Mending is too powerful.
And maybe change the Enchanting Table so you got more control over it? Maybe link Minecraft items with enchantments so you could better the chance for the one you want.

The problem with villager trading is not simply that it’s completely broken and overpowered (diamond gear should NOT be renewable), but that it’s simply a dreadfully dull mechanic to have to rely on. It drags the player out of the game and traps them in a menu system, which is not real gameplay, it’s the absence of gameplay. This becomes an especially tedious system when it’s the only way to get something like Mending, which is itself just a way to completely evade the tedious durability system, which also needs to be redesigned (items should not disappear when broken, but become “broken” and unusable until repaired, and should also cost less material to repair than to create a new item). The problems of the villager trading system is very much intertwined with the shortcomings of the game’s other systems. What we need is an Enchant system redesign, which should involve using the game’s full variety of materials, not just lapis lazuli, and preferably not rely on being stuck in a menu interface, but take place within the physics of the game.

    • @RohesYT

I really like the trading system to be honest. Getting diamond armor and tools from them is much better because you can literally save your diamonds for other things. There is still other uses for diamonds. Decorations, trims, etc. Villager trading is honestly the best system since it helps you a TON. It's just my opinion really. I don't mind it being too overpowered at all. Minecraft is a sandbox game after all. Choose how you play and have creativity is all it matters.

That’s exactly why you shouldn’t be able to buy renewable diamond gear, because it inflates the volume of diamonds you have, thereby reducing the value. Diamonds should be a rare flex, not the standard. Currently diamond is so overly abundant that it’s considered a waste to even bother enchanting iron gear. And when a precious gem material is so overly abundant that it’s considered the standard material to use, it ceases to be a precious gem. @@RohesYT

It's one thing to tell people you don't like the way they're playing, it's another to try and force them to play the way you want them to. Nerfs and rebalances happen in all sorts of games, but bad nerfs and rebalances have destroyed a lot of games. "People are relying too much on Mending." Then why did you put it in the game? It's THE most useful enchantment ever. It means you don't need to keep making new armor and tools. What, do you want everything to be even more temporary than they already are? Dude, people are playing your game, A LOT, stop monkeying with minutiae. "It's too easy!" Is the point of the game to make tools and armor or is it to build and have fun?

I get why you're using the clickbait keyword "nerf" here, it feels kind of dirty though. Many veteran players used to the villager system would be displaced if these changes were implemented so I get why there's a strong negative association.
That said, the rebalancing of villager trades would establish some healthy new norms that Minecraft has shown to bear fruit. For example, finding specific items by going to specific biomes or points of interest is satisfying due to knowing what you're looking for has a high chance to be there. The villager update does this to villages. Furthermore, one of the biggest reasons diamonds lost value was because of how villager trading was implemented prior, so this rebalancing also brings value back to mining [for diamonds] instead of trading.
If the game was called Tradecraft I'd be on the side of calling these changes a nerf, but the overall ideas are beneficial to the game.
All that being said, the travel "cost" is extensive through all this, which both makes sense in an explorative open-world game but also doesn't make sense in the vastness of generation. I agree the implementation of this villager trading overhaul requires some significant adjustments to experience, enchanting tables, and enchantment costs in order to compensate and balance out all of the added travel. It is very difficult - if not impossible - for a player to enchant everything the way they wish without villagers. So, if we see development turn towards the enchanting table and enchantment costs, then the whole villager trade update would become far more appealing to the masses as well as standardize more integral systems aiding players of Minecraft. Guess we'll see what happens in the future.

Nerf is accurate, it does make villager trading harder for most players. Sometimes nerfs can be a needed thing though, to bring things back into balance.

Remember guys, these changes to trading were, according to Mojang, because 1) *some* players complained about trading being "too random", and 2) the enchanting table being too weak compared to buying books. None of the changes will fix those issues. I hope Prowl is right about the radio silence on this topic in particular.

I would really like if this Nerf was implemented into 1.21, so all of the Tryhard people that want to get maxed out in just a couple of days can't anymore
