I am so happy that great skincare advice is now available for younger generations. If they follow your suggestions, they will be able to keep beautiful, soft, unwrinkled, tan-free, skin into their later years. It is possible! Hi dr Idriss, I am a 74 year old French woman living in the US. I’ve just discovered your channel and I have been binging on yourvideos. I found this episode very interesting: My mother had beautiful skin up to her 80’s. When I grew up, she never had disposable income to spend on expensive skin care. Our family doctor advised to do use glycerin instead. This was in the early 50s, and she did so all her life on face and hands. Some years ago, I bought some glycerin at CVS but it was not like it. It was very thick and syrupy and unpleasant on the skin. I discovered recently the Now brand on Amazon. It is still quite thick but I use it on my legs and arms as my skin is very dry and dehydrated. Nowdays I have the luxury of having time for it to be absorbed. I will try some of the products you suggested. I have over the years tried the Norwegian cream . It is very efficatious on the hands in winter, but I hate the feel. Can’t wait to see what you are coming with with your new formula. Keep up with ‘Shereen University”. Besides being very enjoyable, it is useful in making wiser choices and better use of our products. A big thank you!
I feel the same way.. i hate the feeling of glycerin on my skin and glycerin based products 😑 I guess i could water it down but doesn’t that beat the purpose? I would be watering everything else down… and if i have hard water…. I also heard from a reputable dr i personally know, that glycerin feeds bacteria. He recommends against antibacterial hand gels, specially the ones with glycerin bc not only do they not actually work to kill bacteria, the glycerin actually feeds the bacteria. Nothing beats your good ol’ warm water and soap hand wash. I still stay away from glycerin. I do put an occlusive oil over my HA containing products. I prefer oil to sticky glycerin. It feels more natural.
Not gonna lie, while watching some dermatologists I zone out and have trouble understanding the medical terms but I love how you make everything so easy to understand
The great thing about glycerin is that it's affordable and pretty easy to obtain. I can buy a bottle of plain glycerin on the shelf at the pharmacy for $3 and I live in a rural area.
I bought a bottle of 100% glycerin on a whim once too but...how do you use it 😳 I was thinking to use a dropper and mix some of it in my body moisturizer but idk? Are we supposed to be using 100% pure glycerin on our skin 😂
@@montiellopezbeatriz4796 No, apparently it's not advised to use 100% glycerin on your skin! I've just been adding like a drop or 2 to my moisturizer and apply it like that.
When I was in my 20s, I was told by an old Chinese lady in a store that she sprays her face with water and pats on glycerin every day. Her skin was one of the most radiant I’ve ever seen. I have been using glycerin along with Rose Water ever since!
I've seen your video about Hyalauric Acid. Haha. Started to do a checklist of ingredients that I need to put into my face. Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid), Retinoid (Retinoic Acid or the RetinAL), since retinol I guess I am not fan of base on your video as well (Efficacy issue). Your videos are very educational and I guess you can prescribe us by just watching your videos. Lol. Keep it up, Dr. Shereene.
Glycerin is an ingredient so popular in Indian skincare and so underrated and under-appreciated. I remember when I first bought the ordinary hyaluronic acid serum and was like WOW. But lol my Indian roots were correct all this while and I shouldn't have undermined my grandmother's tried and tested glycerin ointment which she swore would have cured my dry winter hands.
Wait, hold the phone! A Dr Idriss line? I'm not one to blindly buy in the slightest but if you were to come out with an affordable range I would be all over that stuff in a heartbeat

I started out with hyaluronic acid (HA) and sooo wanted it to work on my dry skin, since everyone seemed to be hyped on HA. After a few days using HA during the very dry air conditions of German winter I realized that HA is basically sucking out water from my skin, leaving it dry and flaky. pls do one of these for face oils next!
Yees pleeaasee 💜💜
Yes please. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on almond oil for the face... I've been using it as my face oil for the past year.
Yes please!!!
omg I have been meaning to post that exact comment for like a month! lol
please do 🙏🏽 🥰
I’m wondering what do you think about DIY rose water + glycerine toner? It seems like it was used for a long time in Indian beauty.
Love that mix
Ohh yeah I love it
How to use it together?
I dilute glycerin with water to get rid of the stickiness. Works for me.
I feel the same way.. i hate the feeling of glycerin on my skin and glycerin based products 😑
I guess i could water it down but doesn’t that beat the purpose? I would be watering everything else down… and if i have hard water….
I also heard from a reputable dr i personally know, that glycerin feeds bacteria. He recommends against antibacterial hand gels, specially the ones with glycerin bc not only do they not actually work to kill bacteria, the glycerin actually feeds the bacteria.
Nothing beats your good ol’ warm water and soap hand wash.
I still stay away from glycerin. I do put an occlusive oil over my HA containing products.
I prefer oil to sticky glycerin. It feels more natural.
Apply glycerine on drenching wet skin .just one or two drops.
You can mix it with any basic cream
I mix it with rose water, and fresh aleovera gel then apply it on my skin.
Not gonna lie, while watching some dermatologists I zone out and have trouble understanding the medical terms but I love how you make everything so easy to understand
I finally found someone who gets as excited and loves Glycerin just as much as my mother! 😍
Women in sub continent been using glycerin rose water and lemon mixture for ages
The great thing about glycerin is that it's affordable and pretty easy to obtain. I can buy a bottle of plain glycerin on the shelf at the pharmacy for $3 and I live in a rural area.
I have a bottle on my dresser - bout to go use it now 🤣😃
I bought a bottle of 100% glycerin on a whim once too but...how do you use it 😳 I was thinking to use a dropper and mix some of it in my body moisturizer but idk? Are we supposed to be using 100% pure glycerin on our skin 😂
@@skinthusiastic me too , did you use it like that?
@@montiellopezbeatriz4796 No, apparently it's not advised to use 100% glycerin on your skin! I've just been adding like a drop or 2 to my moisturizer and apply it like that.
same in India. Cheap and affordable is glycerin 👍
When I was in my 20s, I was told by an old Chinese lady in a store that she sprays her face with water and pats on glycerin every day. Her skin was one of the most radiant I’ve ever seen. I have been using glycerin along with Rose Water ever since!
Where do you buy these products please?
@@tamarapomerantz8303 any drugstore, Amazon or health food store
@@roxanaphi plain glycerin in a bottle?
@@Alfakkin yes
What proportions do you use?
Product name pls
Glycerin is very popular in the Middle East as well.
my also
@@lanaofficiel4042is it really gud i have oily skin n use niacinemide .....I wanna use glycerine but don't k🙄🙄
What is the receipe of your grandmother glycerin ointment? Plz share it. Thanks
My daughter was beside me while watching, and she went into the cutest laughs ever , she was amazed and amused by your explanation, she’s just 2.5
Awwww 🥰 that’s sooo cute ❤️❤️❤️
Youre probs the most entertaining but educational person here on youtube and i fuckin love you!
Wait, hold the phone! A Dr Idriss line? I'm not one to blindly buy in the slightest but if you were to come out with an affordable range I would be all over that stuff in a heartbeat
YESS!!!!!
Me too...and I'm from Italy
Ditto!
She's a NYC dermatologist. Don't hold your breath. Love her, and I'd buy it, but it's not going to be "affordable"
@@blackeyedsusan727 ywah thats a sad part. I am from india so lol i can only dream to have her prosucts
Unfortunately Vanicream isn't easily as accessible in Australia but QV have similar products that are glycerin-based ❤
Im use qv baby moisturizing and its the best moisturizer i ever use. Very hydrating and have niacinamide
I can’t get it here either 🏴
I’m in Australia! Which ones do you use!
@@SwanTheQueen I use the QV gentle face wash and the intensive with ceramides moisturiser!
I second this! And their facial skincare range is great too. Simple formulations that contain glycerin, niacinimide, panthenol, and colloidal oatmeal extract.
Can I just say, I only found your channel about 2 days ago, and OH. MY. GOODNESS. you have taught/helped me so much already!! I am a beginner skin nerd, and a person with VARY bad anxiety. skincare is a growing interest, but fear mongering advertising has taken advantage of my impressionable nature and made me a nervous wreck! You have practically single-handedly calmed and treated my cosmetic anxiety, within two days.....
Thank you.💕
Saaame here!!!!
Would love to hear about in-office procedures like lasers and peels vs at-home products
Ahh the tease of your own formulation.
LOL still have a ways to go but 💥💥💥💥
I'm not a dermatologist but I knew about 20 years ago that glycerin is a better humectant and moisturizer than hyaluronic acid based solely from my own experience
I can't recall where I heard it but indeed, HA is all around and people seem to forget that the all rounder, well known and very common but commonly ignored cheaper but proven effective alt version (wow that was so long actually): Glycerin.
Edit: and imma call good ol Glycerin now my friendly "skinny little b**ch" 😂
Looooool she isssss
I've learned today that June is the month when people burn their foreheads with curling iron 😀
OMG, I can't wait to see your line. I'll be all over it! ❤️
Still early in development but 🙏🙌🙌🙏🙌 thank you!!
And please make it affordable 🙏 😭
And please send it to Europe as well!!!!!!!!
Ohh and India too😊
@@shereeneidriss please make them also available in Europe 🌸 maybe Sephora or cult beauty ? Because they deliver to Germany! I will buy all of them blind fully
Love the way this lady explains the Science "simply and concisely" and....with the good humour thrown in😂😂, Thankyou Dr S !!! Really enjoyed this video and I personally love when products have that tacky feeling on the skin as I know that's what is keeping the moisture locked in and I wake up hydrated!
GLYCERINE, the quiet hero (PANTHENOL is also a soothing gem!)😇
I'd love a clogged pores video (please talk about sebaceous filaments which I have on my nose and chin) and your product recommendations to treat them ! Adore your videos ❤️
Olay retinol24 cleared up the sebaceous filaments around my nose. I was pleasantly surprised! That's not why I bought it 🙂 but it worked!
@@ineedabeachnow7205 really? had you tried salicylic acid beforehand?
@@adrianacannizzaro I've used SA before when I used to get under the skin bumps around my chin and jawline and it worked well. I don't get those much anymore. The seb filament thing started a couple years ago and nothing I used really fixed that. Bought the olay for fine lines and bam the nose stuff cleared quickly. Like within a week. I think the retinol controls sebum production.

If you were my professor at uni, I would be ahead of time for each lecture! I love your social media work but you equally belong into education!!! You have a gift!
I guess at least during winter time HA is just not working for me. However, glycerin works super well as a humcetant for me, I love it. On top, it's so much easier to purchase :)
i was shocked when she said
i am almost 40!!!!
she look waaaaaaaay younger
for real! I thought she was in her late 20s
How old is she??
I'm usually not shocked a about these people's ages online. They always look their age...they just look better than others their age because they take care of their skin. However, I'm shocked about this one 🤭🤭🤭

My great great mother a Greek refugee from Constantinople (Istanbul at Turkish), always was using a mix of glycerin and rose water as hand cream. The history of that ingredient is very old!
Happy that you refer to that!
As always a very informative video! Love the view from your window!😊💕
My grandmother added lemon juice to the glycerin and rose water
@@shwetanaik3646 I'm interested in this mixture too. Are there differences in glycerine? Is one type of straight glycerine more effective than another?
I bought that pink bottle with glycerin and rose water from the US. Forgot the name but it's an old American product. I loved it and when I used it up I made it myself with vegetable glycerin and rosewater. Unfortenately I don't have rose oil which is also used in that pink bottle. I spray it almost every night before sleeping.
@@reenakazmann9183 we bought glycerin and rose water from pharmacy. I don’t know if there are different types of glycerin.
@@shwetanaik3646 usually 1 part of glycerin and 3 parts of rose water. But you can lower or increase the quantity of rose water and make your own recipe. But I recommend to not use less than 2 parts of it. Hope that’s helpful.
I have a concealer with glycerin and it's amazing. Sits on top of the skin and doesn't get drank up by my dry skin I might start mixing glycerin into my foundation.
Would you mind making a video about cleansers and whether or not the obsession with a low pH is justified? Is pH in a facial cleanser THAT important, or is it the harshness of the surfactants?
