  • Trying to keep my stock MY00 S2000 straight on Buttonwillow 13 CCW. Stiff sway bar and high-speed lift on the rear lead to an adventurous ride. No spinouts on track yet!

    From all the S2000 videos that I saw - the key to handle oversteer is to not lift the throttle. Once you lift the throttle, it's over :)

      Hence “lift off oversteer”

      so once you enter a corner too fast you're fucked essentially

      @@liblib89 slap some ps4s on and you’ll be good, im in the middle of hunting for a gt wing for mine to stick the arse of the car down even further

      You can lift but you simultaneously have to decrease your steering angle to keep the ass end in check

      And sadly the first reaction of the people is fear...and the common response is brake

    Probably one of the best videos on how to handle AP1 over steer. Well done 👍🏾

      To catch oversteer that's already developed, yes, but it's not the best video on how to avoid it.

    That's why Porsche always makes super cars with the weight distribution ratio of 40 to 60 to avoid the lift off over steer.

    Really great driving !! Seems like the tires aren't helping you out much though !
    Rare when someone can push a car beyond it's limits consistently over and over !

  • @Sunny-s1de
    @Sunny-s1de 5 лет назад +5

    Which tires were you running? Looks like you have rather forgiving tires who slide first instead of brake loose.

      On Conti DW ExtremeContact in this video. Not great for track usage--quite mushy and get greasy with heat--but fairly forgiving

    I know this video is old, but I had a question about your track experience. Have you ever driven a s2000 with a wing? And if yes, how did the oversteer characteristics change (if at all)?

    • @konascrap888
      @konascrap888  7 лет назад +23

      StiffWood I haven't but I know people who have wings and they certainly do help. Stock s2000's generate a fair amount of rear lift at high speed so wings helps keep them planted. However, I recommend learning how to drive a non-aero car fast first. Even pulling .9 g at 80 mph takes seat time and a lot of guys with aero don't use it. It's fun setting faster last times than dudes with $3k+ voltex kits

      John Culliton thanks for the answer. Yes you seem to have a firm grip on the limits of the performance of that car. Great video.

    Question: I noticed your shifter rotating when under some g-forces. Ie, it sways left when you turn right. Is this a sign the motor mounts are going or is that amount of movement normal?

    • @1tdiaudi
      @1tdiaudi 6 лет назад +1

      I'm not OP, but my opinion is that is likely motor mount. I have an ap1 that was seeing a lot of shifter movement. I upgraded motor/transmission mounts and it cut the movement almost completely out.

    • @MrTchen13

      I felt it is very normal as in the video shows if drivers handling the high speed and keep the grip at the edge. :)

    S2000 and Lotus got the worst oversteering problem due to weight issues

    • @mrjohnnyk
      @mrjohnnyk 2 года назад

      Yeah they are notorious for lift off oversteer, the opposite of what I usually like.

    • @RobManser77
      @RobManser77 Год назад

      Only if you drive them in a way which provokes it. In any car, if you change one control, for example lifting the throttle, you need to change another, in this case the steering, to keep the car happy. It's like bending over to tie your shoelaces - you need to stick your bum out at the same time, otherwise you fall on your face. This problem is often exacerbated by having too much steering angle in the first place. In addition to that, if you're on the limit then as you go over bumps in the car it will move around a bit, and you just have to react to the car's changing balance with steering and throttle (and brakes, if you're trailbraking or LFB).

    Definitely a big part of AP1 ownership. Proper tires seem to be the #1 fix, but OEM sway bars can be swapped from year to year to adjust.
