I’m so glad that you added time stamps. There are so many lists out there but they only provide a description of the scene not the specific time stamps.
Two great examples that I've rarely seen mentioned are from 1 All Quiet On The Western Front: All of the action packed scenes really make great use of the height channels, but there's one sequence around the 24 minute mark that is demo material. 2 Roma: This one proves that even mellow movies can benefit from a distinct Atmos mix. Whether it's the opening sequence of a maid mopping the floor (yes, I'm serious) or just the birds chirping in trees, all the effects are well-placed and have a huge impact on the whole atmosphere.
Re: Roma - I really enjoy scenes like this that use Atmos to create ambiance. The Visiting the Queen scene in The Greatest Showman is particularly effective at creating Atmos ambiance as the main conversation is center whilst others are spread throughout the room with echoes of all bouncing from the ceiling.

The movie Unbroken I can only find it on Blu Ray and in 5.1 audio Gene says to use this one to test your Dolby Atmos system Is it done in Dolby Atoms 5.1?
This was cool to see. I need to buy more 4k Blu-rays... Still, my favorites of the ones I have are Blade Runner (the original!), its sequel 2049, and 1917. In 1917, there's a relatively quiet scene where flares are being shot overhead and I thought that was minimal but impressive.
Fright Night on 4K would have to be the most underrated Atmos movie. The scene where Jerry Dandrige lands on Charlie's roof is one of the best scenes I've heard for height channel use. It actually sounds like someone is walking on your roof with awesome separation through the height channels.
By far the best purchase for testing Dolby Atmos systems has been the Dolby Atmos Demo September 2016 disc. Tons of great material on one disc, including my all time favorites which include Battlefront 2 and Unbroken. Surprised no one mentioned it here. Do yourselves a favor and order it.
Transformers. Any of them. Black hawk down. Everyone talks about the race scene in ready player One but I really like the scene where they're at the dance club and the bad guys show up. As it's about to go off you can hear a rocket coming in from the back rear up channel and then boom it pops off.
question about Gravity - since the physical BlueRay disc w/ the Atmos track is so hard to find (and pricey) is the streamed version an equal performer? Or are there any lossy/compression differences that should be noted?
Yes, unfortunately that is the case. For the lucky people with a Kaleidescape movie server, you can own the Atmos version for $9.99, but streaming on HBO Max, which is the only free one is in 5.1 not Atmos. The Atmos version on the disc is awesome though. Thanks for watching
For heights, i choose: War of the Worlds 10 cloverfield lane Prince of egypt Netflix has a lot of good atmos height effects in movies, totally underrated
Great selections! Too bad Ready Player One is a static mix (heights) utilizing only top middle when using 6 height channels. Otherwise the bed layer is amazing!
A lot of great recommendations in here - one I would add is the opening car chase scene from No Time to Die. There is a lot happening as they race through the city and the moment when the car is being shot from multiple sides created one of the most immersive Atmos experience I've had.
You're right, it will totally depend. Harrison here from the video, and I personally had my audio at about 55 dB in a rather large dedicated home theater. Hope that helps!
Downside of all this, is unless the movies are on 4K Blu-ray they're limited to 7.1 channel output to your receiver that processes it into the multiple Atmos channels. Check your input output screen on your AV receiver. My Yamaha RX-A6A receives 7.1 48 kHZ from Streaming source, outputs to 7.2.4 channels. Hopefully there will be one day where streaming services do a full lossless audio stream but it's doubtful.
The Infinite with Mark Wahlberg has a few good Atmos scenes and will give your Sub a work out as well. It has lots of bombs, bullets helicopter and planes in it.
I think a good scene for low low bass that is extensive is in the movie Aquaman, when he is a kid in front of the aquarium when the kids were picking at him and he turns around and his eyes turns colors and all those fish gather behind him in the aquarium that low bass was really deep.
Off course atmos can be great. These examples almost all example heavy cicumstances. What maybe should have more attention is when DA is used with ambient sounds.
This is a great list of Atmos scenes. But I'm also amazed at how good Tron Legacy sounds without Atmos. The movie sounds awesome from start to finish and it perfectly matches the visuals. But the games, light cycle, and night club scenes take the cake. And to top it all off...Daft Punk? Couldn't ask for a better sounding movie!
Thank you and thanks for sharing. Yes- some 5.1 movies can sound really good too, especially if you have a system that does a good job of up converting.
Honestly the entire Moonfall movie is awesome for Dolby Atmos. It is also 4K Native and has Dolby Vision. I watched it again recently while wearing my PSVR 2 and not seeing anything in my peripheral vision made the movie even more epic. Have also watched Mad Max Fury Road and Ford V. Ferrari with the headset on and that's another amazing experience. #MadMaxFuryRoad #Moonfall #PSVR2 #PlayStation5 #FordVFerrari

What about DTSX mixes?
People sleep on DTS X
Some of the beat effect are DTS-X.
We chose Dolby Atmos as it is the most prevalent format, but DTS:X is also very good
DEEP WATER HORIZON EXPLOSION 💥 SCENE
