I recently watched inside the yellow cocoon shell. Nothing tested my audio quite like this movie. There were moments where i genuinely thought my dogs were barking, someone was in my house, someone knocked on my door. It was a trippy experience. It didn't drive the base a whole lot, but damn did it draw out every little detail. Even if your not into the movie, just watch the first 15min or so for the ultimate test of how much detail your speakers can pick up.
Very very good!! Your honorable mention of The Batman was spot on. First appearance of the Batmobile (I saw it in IMAX) drew applause!!! The low end bass response with LFE support was truly exceptional! These films truly work well experienced in ATMOS!
The Equalizer has a really cool Atmos demo at 1:51:00. It sounds like a piece of plastic bounces behind the listener from the left rear to right rear. Subtle, but it sounds so realistic.
Gravity, at 11:00 min. I have a 7.2.4 klipsch, and you can hear that when she's being spun round in space, it goes from speaker to speaker. When Clooney is yelling Dr Stone do you read me ? Goes from LBS to LS to FL
I always appreciate reviewers that give time stamps for Dolby Atmos scenes for movies reviewed. These three categories are great markers for judging atmos effectiveness. Keep up the good work.
Ready Player One? Its a good (great) sound mix, but not a particularly good Atmos mix. Its static. The objects dont move. Watch RPO with an object viewer and you'll see what I mean. The best Atmos scene I have ever heard is from Jupiter Ascending. The dogfight over Chicago at night. Absolute saturation in the entire sound bubble including heights. And this goes on for about 7 minutes or so. Everyone I have shown this to has been absolutely blown away. This is the type of scene that will convince people still on the fence about atmos. There's absolutely no denying its effectiveness here.
Saving private ryan, midaway,man of steel, planet of apes,aquaman are also incredible for atmos as for dtsx my favs are battleship fast and furious 1-8 harry potter jurrasic park . They are all demo worthy.
Do all these movies have to be physical copy’s and played on a 4Kuhd player or can I use my PlayStation 5 and a 4Kuhd disk to get the best atmos and can I get the same effect if I use front height speakers ? Thanks so much
The very first blu ray movie to have Dolby Atmos ..Transformer Age of Extinction and then released later on 4k ..both sound excellent for everything up top low end side to side back to front front to back it just keeps getting better and better as the movie goes on until the ending where it really out does itself I do prefer the 4k version tho for picture quality and the sound does sound better But the blu ray version is no slouch either and served me well til the 4k came out Well worth a look and feel ! lol ( on a side note if some of the systems out there are not hearing to much up top Increase those levels by about 3 db ...each set up is different with the rooms they are in so this adjustment could help if not hearing to much up top ) Thanks for you picks I have all of them except 3 and agree with your analyst!
Ready player one is a great sonic mix that I demo all the time but aside from Kong, it not the best for channel separation. There's too much going on in all the channels all at once to be great Atmos demo. They were playing the opening scene of Unbroken in a local A/V store and that is my new Atmos demo scene.
Hello everyone, how do I take movies with Dolby Atmos with more than 7 channels? Most blue-ray is 5.1 or 7.1, the same with what you can watch digital. I have a denon x3800 and I can't find content with more than 7 channels? thank you for help !.
Leave the World Behind on netflix have incredible dolby atmos experience. Sky thunder and airplane moving around head are just experience great on dolby atmos ceiling speakers on denon receiver. But this experience is minimum in Lg s95qr top firing speakers.
Yes! There is a Dolby Atmos version of Gravity. It’s called the Diamond Luxe Edition and costs around $69.00. It’s hard to find, expensive, and the only version available with Atmos.. but it’s worth it if you have the right gear!

Good list but it's getting a little old now. How about something a little bit more obscure. Maybe 5.1 rendered movies, taking into account the options of upscaling with various different sound modes or how height channels adds to a 5.1 rendered movie in itself 🤔 Just thinking out loud!

Blade Runner 2049 is an incredible 4K Atmos release, from start to finish your neighbors will hate you :)
The only problem with BR 2049 is that it is not and it will never will be Blade Runner at all
Atmos is mildly used in READY PLAYER ONE race scene
The train tunnel scene in MI dead reckoning part 1 makes great use of the height speakers
Guillermo Del Toro Pinocchio' sound is wonderful. Very immersive!
Apocalypse Now (4k edition, director’s cut) has the best dolby atmos I’ve listened to.

During the movie, press the start button, 3 dots, i think settings, change audio priority to bitstream to ensure Dolby Atmos is on.

GRAVITY does not have bolby atmos sound as far as I know. It only has 5.1 DTS-HD. It was only released in bluray and has no Dolby Atmos sound.
