  • Clemson vs Notre Dame was one of the headline games in College Football's week 10, and on Late Kick Live Ep 325 Josh Pate spoke about the Irish running all over Dabo Swinney's Tigers. The upset itself wasn't the most shocking result in the world, but the manner with which Notre Dame controlled the line of scrimmage certainly was to a lot of people. Can Marcus Freeman and the Irish continue to surge towards the finish line? Where will Clemson take things from here with a very green staff? Same here man. He really needs to look outside of the program for coordinators. Offense play calling was just pathetic. Offense has been bad for several years. Streeter is not better than Elliot. Need to get the offense up to date. Wes Goodwin is not the answer for the defense either. Venables would of never allowed the defense to play this way. If nothing else, it's because he can scramble because the Clemson o-line is still poor. DJ has cement the shoes and if his first option is covered, he looks totally lost. They cater to his emotions so much, that the play calling stops being smart and starts being obvious. They ran those screens to get him in a rhythm. Problem is, the rhythm never came, therefore the offense never developed. Jeff Scott is back on the market. Sure they're 8-1 but even before this blow up they had real scares against Wake, Florida State, and Syracuse so just one possession goes the other way in each of those games and they could easily be 4-4 right now. One of the, more than obvious things that you pundits get wrong each week about Notre Dame is you say they don't have a lot of talent. They have big time talent all over the field and they're getting much more if the recruiting holds up as it likely will. You assume ND who doesn't have a decent QB hasn't good players anywhere else on the field. And you people are always wrong. When BK was at ND, he had a lot of talent but never had or coached a QB who was better than a backup. He frightened away all the top QB talent he recruited in lieu of his favorite QB and did the same with many of the WR's. ND just needs a coach who is willing to put the best talent on the field and they did that last week and this week. Ha, a big surprise. The ND OLine can match up anywhere in the nation - Surprise. ND has some darned good RB's - surprise. ND has some very good TE's - surprise. When I hear your baloney each week (the proverbial your) It comes across as you're more about the hype than the knowing. Many fans are very happy Kelly has moved on though we realize he did make great and positive changes to ND's culture during his time, and we thank him for that and know he will likely never win a NC because of who he is, but we do hope he has a good life wherever he goes.

To buy them out of the ACC contract though would be extreme money because the ACC knows those are their two football money makers so they are holding onto them as tight as they can. Don't blame it on Clemson, blame it on the ACC. The only thing Clemson can do is schedule out of conference opponents and they ALWAYS schedule top level programs in that slot.

I don’t think UNC will ever be a complete team. And Syracuse, wake forest and nc state are normally solid but they will never have the talent to be elite. @zacharyscott6779 Год назад

@@camerondodge3633 sorry if my comment came off as aggressive haha. Just this is something I see people post often and I honestly can't figure it out. But for the sake of argument, the two years Clemson won CFP titles, 2016: they beat more ranked opponents than anyone else. 2018: destroyed every opponent they played against when Trevor Lawrence was in the entire game. Could there have been a slip up along the way? Sure. But we've seen the SEC champ be excused with a loss, and even be excused without being in the conference title game. So it's kind of difficult to go off of ya know? Because Clemson is in the ACC they almost have to be perfect. In the Big 10 or SEC, they get a pass as we've seen before. This 2022 team, I will admit probably would have 2 or 3 losses if they were in the SEC. They are good but not great like years past.

Dude, Clemson was surely outplayed in all phases of the game but this game ain’t on the defense. Those rushing yards are simply our D being on the field the entire game.
This offense has major major issues. It ain’t just DJ. I still do not understand the game plan. It seemed to be to just keep throwing it short and outside the hash marks the entire game.
As bad as Clemsons offense played and as big a clusterfuck as this whole thing was we are going into the 4th only down 14 points and our offense has yet to cross midfield.
There was a lot of things to be upset about as a Clemson fan but the biggest for me was was how the QB position was handled. DJ has obviously gotten back into his head and has no sauce but If he is our guy he is our guy even if he is going to play such uninspired ball. If you are going to bring Cade in then do it much earlier but I cannot image them bringing him in when and how they did.
True freshman, own his own 1 yardline, down by 21, in a very hostile environment. I would have been shocked if he has not thrown a pick six. It’s really the worse coaching decision I have seen Dabo make. Not only for the result but now a true freshman has to overcome that mental bullet while sitting on the bench.

OSU has 3 Heisman candidates on that offensive roster, btw what's OSU points per game average since only dropping 21 on ND... Like almost 40 a game.

With the recruiting over the last 2 yrs, with MF and that staff all being recruiting Dawgs ND will be a top 5 class every yr. All they gotta do is get a top QB what they did to Clemson will be what happens to most others.
ND has done what they've done over the last 10yrs with mostly only a 10-15 recruiting class and then the academic standards of ND. You give them top 5 recruiting classes every yr, it'll be a wrap.

Can’t stand this guy he’s not a good commentator and a hater. He leaves so much things out of context. Notre dame always had a shot, they dropped the ball two games but besides that been on point. Nobody thought we’d win with 85 passing yards but DJ didn’t go crazy, but one thing he doesn’t talk about the wind was a strong as the wind In that spongbob episode when they delivered pizza. So nobody wanted to live by the pass. He epitomizes so many times how we lost to two bad teams. But doesn’t talk about us being the only team to beat NC, staying in the game vs osu till the end of the 4th. Beating a tough Syracuse team this year. When the chips are down people like to go all in and quit but freemen kept his cool and is back in the game. It’s nice seeing he knows all the down falls but doesn’t talk about the highs we’ve hit this season.. I forgot why I stopped watching this guy. Give credit to where it’s due. Bama doesn’t look like the bama from before but everyone’s giving Kelly his flowers while Clemson lost one game and everyone saying they lost it more then notre dame dominated them. Nothing new as a Irish fan.

First year OC & DC having serious problems. Dabo was inside hire. He won 2 NC with inside hires (people forget that Jeff S and Tony E were former players turned GA turn position coach turn co-OCs for Dabo). So he believes in inside-hire to a fault. Also good-not-great WR get no separation. QBs with fragile confidence & inconsistent. Defense hasn't been full strength yet this year. Even when they are, they can be lazy and inconsistent. As a Clemson fan, we were waiting on this - we knew we weren't Top 4. Even if we did have 3 Top 25 wins. Our hope now is win ACC (us and UNC already clinched) and look decent in Orange Bowl. Keeping 10-game winning streak alive and beating USuCk would be nice too.

The defense is fine, wes goodman has done a good job and has alot of potential. Defense has been good all year up until this point and id say 14 of NDs points were more so the fault of clemson turning it over than the clemson defense. The problem is the offense and QB. Clemson brought in chad morris a long time ago and he did well in building up clemsons offense. After that elliot and scott who had no OC experience were made the coordinators and they just continued running Morrises offense, although their play calling was quite a bit worse. Then those 2 left and are currently failing miserably as head coaches and now Streeter who was the QB coach is the OC. He also has no play calling experience and failed to develop DJ so hes a bad canidate but dabo is so blindly loyal it doesnt seem to matter. Dabos blind loyalty is also hurting the QB spot as it was clear last yeare DJ wasnt the guy and yet hes still starting this year. I dont think hes even thrown for 10 TDs yet. Streeter is also still running Morries old offense from 10 years ago and sucking at play calling. Clemson needs to get an experienced OC with a new offense from the outside, as well as a new QB coach, and make klubnik the starter. Atleast get him experience in hopes he can develop into something good cause we all know DJ aint it.

Bottom line? QB issues. It's real complicated. This isn't a case where a QB just isn't performing, or is performing erratically. It is much deeper than that. Right off the bat, I believe Dabo on some level feels bad over what happened to Kelly Bryant. He had to bench the QB starter from the previous season to go with his star. I believe that is why he is being so fiercely loyal to DJ. He understands that benching DJ means his career in football is done and Dabo is the kind of man who wants to avoid that if he can. Dabo always wants to build up his young mean rather than tossing them aside to win. He can't always... that's how you become a good coach.
DJ has issues, and again, not your typical inconsistent play that most QBs run into. None of this is proven, but I believe DJ is broken. In 2020 when he had to fill in Lawrence, he played really well. And then we played Georgia, and he made an ill advised shuttle pass that was turned into a pick six. To me, that tripped a switch. From that point on, he was completely inept in all facets. He made terrible decisions. He kept eating sacks like they were the breakfast of champions. He had some moments of brilliance, but for the most part, he couldn't do anything right. Fast forward to the start of this season and somehow they turned the switch back off, and DJ was playing very well again... until Syracuse. He gets strip sacked that gets returned for 6. Click the switch again. He is now the completely inept QB we saw last year. Here is where it goes from bad to worse. Offensive play calling. Whether they did it on purpose but won't admit it, or they did it subconsciously, they called plays to protect DJ from having the wheels come off the bus. They called numerous screens, zero throws to the middle of the field in any manner, and the one throw he went downfield, he overthrew him by 10 yards. They brought in Cade in desperation in a spot where he was set up for failure, then went back to DJ and turned him loose finally because they had nothing to lose. The problem is he was still broke and threw a pick six... from their 7 yard line.
DJ's switch is on for the rest of the season. And Dabo is still going to be fiercely loyal to him if he can. We need to first team reps Cade and hope for the best going forward, otherwise, it's going to be a long rest of the season.
If we had any kind of offense at all, yeah, ND still runs all over us, but 21 of the 35 pts we handed them on a platter. If we had offense, maybe we overcome our lack of the ability to stop the run. Maybe if we are scoring too, they feel more pressured to throw the ball, which we defended well. Maybe ND still stomps us. But there was no hope that we win that game with zero offense led by a mentally broken QB.
