My starter was drawing super high amps(and very slow starting) on my John Deere and I took apart the starter(aftermarket gear reduction that is awesome) to find out what was wrong. Usually this starter spins the engine pretty good. I found rust in the brush area and one of the brushes was seized. I freed everything up and lubed the brush guides and put it back together after cleaning everything else inside. It started like it was new. Everything you are showing is correct.

Hey Great video! Can you share where you got the rebuild kit from with a part #?

Technically, thats the armature, not the stator. But who's keeping track? Thumbs up.

Good job on that Pete. Nothing like doing your own work to fix something. Enjoyed the video.

One thing...I'm not sure that "finicky" is the word we want when talking about getting the brushes and the new spring back into the bracket. Just sayin'. That's where I'm at.

Your starter came off easier then mine, questioning if i have the wrong starter on to begin with 😂. And now the new one won’t go on at all. Tight to clear the distributor coming off, new one won’t clear it enough to slide in.

If don’t have Emory cloth use a green scratch pad or fine steel wool. Do not use heavy grade sand paper on the armature for you are not doing your brushes any good and you are reducing the life of the armature.

Great video! I've got an MF20C and the starter went out today. Water had leaked into it and frozen up the brush holder. Your video gave me the courage to dig into it and repair it. The brushes were fine. It just needed cleaning and lubricating. Saved me about $300 for a new starter. Thanks!

Great video Pete. Happy you got it started. Good to see old tractors still running and doing the work we need them to do. Have a Blessed Day Friend!

It's always great to save a bundle while doing your own repairs. Need to do some electrical work on my International 444. Love my snow blower on the back. Works great. Take Care Pete !

Thanks man you definitely can save a lot of money doing a lot of the work yourself. Hope you get your wiring all done nothing worse than a bunch of bad wiring in a tractor. It always seems to give you problems when you need to use it. Have a good one man

Machinery needs to be used once in a while. bought a old tractor a month ago that the previous owner did not use at all. I had some sentimental reason for buying it so it came home with me. It had been left to rot since 1996. Just got 1000 hous on it and i got it "cheap" But i had to spend a whole lot in parts since every thing was leaking and or stuck. Finaly got the old UTB back in running order and it will be my primary logging tractor, since it it small and have 4x4.

Tractors need to be ran regularly or they just start to deteriorate. Seals and leaks. My old tractor needs a bit of work yet the hydraulics are week the pump is not what it used to be. Thanks for watching
