The difference between the likes of Hamilton/Alonso and Vettel/Rosberg/Button is that while all are good drivers, the latter don't actually have wheel to wheel intimidation! Lewis and Fernando actually make other drivers uncomfortable on the track, and it definitely shows. That's why they're the best.
***** Everyone does it when they know they can. Hamilton and Alonso are always prepared to put it on the line no matter what. They've paid for it on a number of occasions, but damn they make F1 so entertaining.
***** He's won a race in every season since he started in F1. Monaco was 100% the team's fault, no two ways about it. And given the circumstances of his loss, I think he acted very professionally, and it shows how far he's come. The drivers who win the most do so, because that's how much they hate losing. That's what makes him a true contender.
***** No, I'm fairly sure Fernando can. It's easy to forget the ability of a driver who hasn't driven for a front runner team in a while. Putting Lewis and Seb in the same team would be RIGHT out of Seb's comfort zone. I don't think he'd handle the pressure. Also by 'can', I don't mean 'would', but he is definitely capable of besting Lewis.

Thank you very much Boris, really apreciate this video. I was pretty damn emotional come Abu Dhabi when Lewis crossed the finish line. So many ups and downs, and overall I was a little dissapointed in Nico the way he presented this entire season. Inly positive plus side for Rosberg is him wanting to go to the finish in Abu Dhabi. I hope for Nico that this season has thaught him a few lessons, and that fan support is important. He should have matured by the time we hit for 2015.

What a fantastic video (especially the ending), and a great year this year between these two! Well deserved World Champion, Lewis Hamilton. Rosberg drove brilliantly though all year and maybe next year will be his year. The last race he really fought to get that car to finish, and massive credit to him for that.

with so many f1 fans complaining currently (2019) about Mercedes winning races need to remember the Nico years when Mercedes team mates were the main ones racing. but then its been a masterclass from the team great engineering from a great team. but we desperately need audi/vw/porche to joining the racing in f1

As far as I'm concerned, these drivers are all in the same league in terms of their ability to drive an F1 car: Prost, Senna, Schumacher, Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel. I think Schumacher was brilliant but has unusually prolific results due to entering F1 during a vacuum era where in a short space of time we lost Senna, Prost and Mansell. He met his match in Alonso (Hakkinen is a bit behind all the other listed folk). Alonso, Vettel and Hamilton have been waging a three-way war so it's unlikely that they can reach 7 championships while getting in each other's way. Senna may have won further championships (at the cost of Schumacher) without the accident, and Senna and Prost got in each other's way even more directly than Alonso-Hamilton-Vettel and so neither of them could have ever been expected to win the WDC 7 times either. So, in more recent years, that is my Sensational Six. Of those 6, just some further opinions with the listed players always coming in chronological order... Best race-craft: Alonso, Hamilton (No Senna? Too many highly dubious incidents.) Best race management: Prost, Schumacher, Vettel Best qualifying: Senna Best at consistently driving on the limit (best sprinter): Schumacher Most magical performer: Senna
Might be too early to say, but In 10 years time verstappen might be up there. Two 4th place finishes in a toro rosso is amazing, his overtaking even more. Expecting at least one podium place finish from him this season.
I am fully agree with your comments (about schumi) but not your ranking, i have followed almost every Senna /Prost races and Ayrton was the best no discutions, this is amazing because Prost was probably one of top 5 pilotes of the history i think. Overall : 1) Ayrton 2) Lewis 3) Prost Shumi Lewis Alonso (same league). Lewis is still racing but this guy is amazing and has always been the best versus his time mates, he faced competition with Nico but obviously was faster. don't forget Nico was a great pilot as well, look at what he did to Schumi after his come back... Tel me if i am wrong but Schumi never face top pilotes during his carrer, only Alonso at the end and Alonso won. I think Vettel and Schumi when they are very confident with the best car are almost impossible to beat but once something is going wrong they are not the same at all. (look at Vettel now...)
in all my years of watching formula 1 i have never seen cars as dominant as the ones mercedes have produced in 2014 and 2015. they are consistently 1 second faster than the next non-mercedes car in qualifying. not even dumb mistakes by both drivers at austria prevented a front row lockout. in normal circumstances they will most certainly go on to take every pole for the rest of the season. without mechanical failures they would have won 27 of the last 28 races. absolutely ridiculous car.
MrShadowinko yea brawn was extremely dominant in the 1st half of 2009. but they lost some pace in the 2nd half. it helped that red bull and others were extremely inconsistent so brawn kept a good advantage throughout the rest of the season. the 2nd half of 2009 were the tightest qualifying times i've ever seen across the grid. people in good cars would get eliminated because they did their lap at the wrong time or didn't do an extra lap. the mercs are almost always ~1 second faster than ferrari/williams/red bull every single qualifying session, and it's been true since the beginning of last year. merc have produced 2 of the most dominant cars in history. and what's baffling is that nothing is being done to negate their advantage like the FIA tried to do to red bull (2010-2013) and ferrari (2000-2004) with constant rule changes, sometimes mid season.
WIlliams cars in 1992, 1993, and even 1996 had a bigger advantage in qualifying than the Mercedes cars of 2014-15. Ferrari in 2002 had comparable race pace advantage, although it was obviously not as strong in qualifying.
The Undisputed - well i started watching f1 in 2000 so i can't be sure about years prior to that. i do think the williamses of 92-93 were incredibly dominant though from the stats i have seen. but in the modern era, such an advantage mercedes has had was unheard of prior to 2014. 2002 ferrari was only dominant in races because michelin tyres were pathetic over long distances that year. in qualifying they were fast but not at all as fast as the mercs are nowadays.
Hamilton is showcasing Schumacher like dominance.. Two consecutive seasons of winning at least 10 races, but we'll go by percentage also to make things more clear. 2014 - 11 of 19 races won (58%) 2015 - 10 of 16 races won to date, with 3 more races to go (currently at 62.5%) For example, Schumacher managed... 1994 - 8 of 16 races won (50%) 1995 - 9 of 17 races won (53%) AND... 2000 - 9 of 17 (53%) 2001 - 9 of 17 (53%) 2002 - 11 of 17 (65%) Schumacher managed 3 seasons on the trot in which he won at least 50% of the races in a season. Hamilton is currently on 2 consecutive seasons, which Schumacher achieved twice and Vettel didn't achieve. Just FYI.
+TheOriginalGankstar - difference is 2014-2015 mercedes cars were completely dominant and out of reach of anybody else. schumacher did not even have the best car in the field in 1994, 1995, and 2000.

Hamilton is an Awesome driver on par with Senna if not greater than Senna himself . Hes a true racing driver he takes chances like no other driver dare and thats why hes on his way to becoming a 4 time world champion. Rosberg to be fair i would like to see him win and become world champion . That would make him more hungry for it next season and Hamilton too. The rivalry between these two at the moment is tremendous just what the sport needs and what the fans want to see.
Nico used to be an alright guy towards the beginning of 2014 season, i think the change came when he pulled that bullshit move coming up to Mirabeau corner during Q3 in Monaco back in 2014, after that he changed for the worse. Nico is a better comedian than he is a race car driver. Nico needs to practice what he preaches, case in point @ 6:48 he's talking about Lewis can do something which is he can drive cleanly himself. this season ended the way it should have. Nico cant beat Lewis wheel to wheel but he does have the speed to take pole position. With all the reliability issues Lewis had all year long and Spa incident, and still be able to keep up in terms of points is quite something. Dont get me wrong, Nico is a skilled driver as well, unlike Red Bull last year and the years before. i think Nico has what it takes to win next year but he does have to keep it clean to avoid any conspiracies. Lewis just performed like no other, especially in Hungary and Austria. he deserved it this year. i hope the likes of Williams and Honda coming in next year will be able to challenge next season. although the drivers were never held back with team orders, having more than two drivers going at it for the championship is better.
Completely agree, apart from Nico Rosbergs quali speed. Dont get me wrong, Rosberg is fast. But Lewis did seem to start setting his car up for the race and sacrificing some speed in quali. This helped Rosberg get pole. Thats not to say Rosberg couldnt get pole without Lewis doing this, but it did seem that suddenly Lewis lost his quali speed - which i dont think was true.
What are you talking about? Firstly we're comparing Lewis to rosberg not the next fastest competitor the. Secondly the merc isn't 2 seconds a lap faster. There isn't half some bitter "f1 fans" out there.
+Gareth Wood yes but I think it also had to do with Hamilton not being comfortable with the brakes last year. I just knew he had more speed in him not just in quali but also in the race. He just wasn't comfortable with the car and he did mention that throughout last year. This year is proof of that. But God what a year was last year. It was awesome! with so many f1 fans complaining currently (2019) about Mercedes winning races need to remember the Nico years when Mercedes team mates were the main ones racing. but then its been a masterclass from the team great engineering from a great team. but we desperately need audi/vw/porche to joining the racing in f1

As far as I'm concerned, these drivers are all in the same league in terms of their ability to drive an F1 car: Prost, Senna, Schumacher, Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel.
I think Schumacher was brilliant but has unusually prolific results due to entering F1 during a vacuum era where in a short space of time we lost Senna, Prost and Mansell. He met his match in Alonso (Hakkinen is a bit behind all the other listed folk). Alonso, Vettel and Hamilton have been waging a three-way war so it's unlikely that they can reach 7 championships while getting in each other's way. Senna may have won further championships (at the cost of Schumacher) without the accident, and Senna and Prost got in each other's way even more directly than Alonso-Hamilton-Vettel and so neither of them could have ever been expected to win the WDC 7 times either.
So, in more recent years, that is my Sensational Six.
Of those 6, just some further opinions with the listed players always coming in chronological order...
Best race-craft: Alonso, Hamilton (No Senna? Too many highly dubious incidents.)
Best race management: Prost, Schumacher, Vettel
Best qualifying: Senna
Best at consistently driving on the limit (best sprinter): Schumacher
Most magical performer: Senna
Might be too early to say, but In 10 years time verstappen might be up there. Two 4th place finishes in a toro rosso is amazing, his overtaking even more. Expecting at least one podium place finish from him this season.

I am fully agree with your comments (about schumi) but not your ranking, i have followed almost every Senna /Prost races and Ayrton was the best no discutions, this is amazing because Prost was probably one of top 5 pilotes of the history i think.
Overall : 1) Ayrton 2) Lewis 3) Prost Shumi Lewis Alonso (same league).
Lewis is still racing but this guy is amazing and has always been the best versus his time mates, he faced competition with Nico but obviously was faster. don't forget Nico was a great pilot as well, look at what he did to Schumi after his come back...
Tel me if i am wrong but Schumi never face top pilotes during his carrer, only Alonso at the end and Alonso won. I think Vettel and Schumi when they are very confident with the best car are almost impossible to beat but once something is going wrong they are not the same at all. (look at Vettel now...)

There is no versus with these two. It's just Lewis taking a dump on Nico for 80-90% of the time.
in all my years of watching formula 1 i have never seen cars as dominant as the ones mercedes have produced in 2014 and 2015. they are consistently 1 second faster than the next non-mercedes car in qualifying. not even dumb mistakes by both drivers at austria prevented a front row lockout. in normal circumstances they will most certainly go on to take every pole for the rest of the season. without mechanical failures they would have won 27 of the last 28 races. absolutely ridiculous car.
MrShadowinko yea brawn was extremely dominant in the 1st half of 2009. but they lost some pace in the 2nd half. it helped that red bull and others were extremely inconsistent so brawn kept a good advantage throughout the rest of the season. the 2nd half of 2009 were the tightest qualifying times i've ever seen across the grid. people in good cars would get eliminated because they did their lap at the wrong time or didn't do an extra lap.
the mercs are almost always ~1 second faster than ferrari/williams/red bull every single qualifying session, and it's been true since the beginning of last year. merc have produced 2 of the most dominant cars in history. and what's baffling is that nothing is being done to negate their advantage like the FIA tried to do to red bull (2010-2013) and ferrari (2000-2004) with constant rule changes, sometimes mid season.

WIlliams cars in 1992, 1993, and even 1996 had a bigger advantage in qualifying than the Mercedes cars of 2014-15.
Ferrari in 2002 had comparable race pace advantage, although it was obviously not as strong in qualifying.
The Undisputed - well i started watching f1 in 2000 so i can't be sure about years prior to that. i do think the williamses of 92-93 were incredibly dominant though from the stats i have seen. but in the modern era, such an advantage mercedes has had was unheard of prior to 2014. 2002 ferrari was only dominant in races because michelin tyres were pathetic over long distances that year. in qualifying they were fast but not at all as fast as the mercs are nowadays.

2014 - 11 of 19 races won (58%)
2015 - 10 of 16 races won to date, with 3 more races to go (currently at 62.5%)
For example, Schumacher managed...
1994 - 8 of 16 races won (50%)
1995 - 9 of 17 races won (53%)
AND...
2000 - 9 of 17 (53%)
2001 - 9 of 17 (53%)
2002 - 11 of 17 (65%)
Schumacher managed 3 seasons on the trot in which he won at least 50% of the races in a season.
Hamilton is currently on 2 consecutive seasons, which Schumacher achieved twice and Vettel didn't achieve.

This seems like the Lewis fanboy page, so this comment might piss people off. Lewis is a child. He's damn good and probably better than Rosberg, but he has excuses for everything that doesn't go his way. For example, in monoco, he said he couldn't see out of his right. When the team told him that they have a doc on standby to check him out, he was like oh no its better now. Just sack up, accept that you lost and take it like a man, not a child. Anyone saying that Rosberg is dirty b/c of the incident in Spa is delusional. They were both turning into each other. Lewis was making a wide turn and rosberg was trying to turn in. The only reason why I like Rosberg more than Hamilton is because he has far more class and is a better person in general. At the end of the season, Rosberg said that Lewis deserved to win, he congratulated him immediately. Hamilton is an Awesome driver on par with Senna if not greater than Senna himself . Hes a true racing driver he takes chances like no other driver dare and thats why hes on his way to becoming a 4 time world champion. Rosberg to be fair i would like to see him win and become world champion . That would make him more hungry for it next season and Hamilton too. The rivalry between these two at the moment is tremendous just what the sport needs and what the fans want to see.

Nico used to be an alright guy towards the beginning of 2014 season, i think the change came when he pulled that bullshit move coming up to Mirabeau corner during Q3 in Monaco back in 2014, after that he changed for the worse. Nico is a better comedian than he is a race car driver. Nico needs to practice what he preaches, case in point @ 6:48 he's talking about Lewis can do something which is he can drive cleanly himself. this season ended the way it should have. Nico cant beat Lewis wheel to wheel but he does have the speed to take pole position. With all the reliability issues Lewis had all year long and Spa incident, and still be able to keep up in terms of points is quite something. Dont get me wrong, Nico is a skilled driver as well, unlike Red Bull last year and the years before. i think Nico has what it takes to win next year but he does have to keep it clean to avoid any conspiracies. Lewis just performed like no other, especially in Hungary and Austria. he deserved it this year. i hope the likes of Williams and Honda coming in next year will be able to challenge next season. although the drivers were never held back with team orders, having more than two drivers going at it for the championship is better.
Completely agree, apart from Nico Rosbergs quali speed. Dont get me wrong, Rosberg is fast. But Lewis did seem to start setting his car up for the race and sacrificing some speed in quali. This helped Rosberg get pole. Thats not to say Rosberg couldnt get pole without Lewis doing this, but it did seem that suddenly Lewis lost his quali speed - which i dont think was true.

He just wasn't comfortable with the car and he did mention that throughout last year.
