Imitation of Life, Madame X, Holiday Inn and Guess Whos Coming to Dinner are some of my most favorite Hollywood sets from the Golden Age. Laura and The Parent Trap have some of the most beautiful rooms ever. The most magnificent and lavish sets in old Hollywood's Golden Age are Gone With The Wind and Marie Antionette 1938. In Marie Antionette the set decorator and art directors bought actual fireplaces, chairs, beds, chandeliers, etc. that had belonged to Marie Antionette. The same thing was done in GWTW. Maybe you can explore a few of these someday. Thank you for sharing some of them and thank you for your wonderful work!!
Excellent video. Thanks for all your hard work on this. I am watching it in my bedroom where I can see into the hallway which is painted a special color just because when we were renovating, I had recently seen your video on cinematically inspired design where you explained the concept of color beyond. I love seeing this hall color beyond each of the rooms that lead to it and which it leads to. I consider it my cinematically (and Marina Coats) inspired paint color choice which gives me a smile.
Marina Coates, I am binge watching all of your video's completely and utterly bewitched of how wonderful you are explaining cinematic design. I am immediately enthralled in your work. I feel like I have been throwing things together after watching many of your video teachings. I feel like I just may be able to now quite sequentially structured and perfect for me and my hubby put our home and property together. Please keep doing what you are doing and sharing with us your innate talent to help us to conceptualize our personal authenticity in our homes. BTW, you could not have captured me more once I saw your work on the house in Carmel from the original Parent Trap.
Outside the box, flow, and color are my favorites! I wish the shops would stop having all these shortages. Everything is on back order for months now. Great video! Cheers 👍
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane The plot and the visual aesthetic of Send Me No Flowers makes it my favorite Doris Day movie. A lighthearted story line in a visually light and airy setting is my kind of movie, I guess.

@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane , yes, I went back and watched parts 1& 2. Will watch again in correct order. Also watched a few others on this channel. Very good ideas on this channel.
The only one that comes to mind is the vacation home in Mr. Hobbs takes a vacation. In my mind it felt like it needed a good scrubbing, but it was most likely meant to be dark and dingy. I'll have to watch it again to see if that was the point. I loved all the set design in the rest of that movie. I liked this question. I had to think awhile.
Do you actally design? I've seen alot of computer animated versions and replications, just curious. I looked for some examples of work you actually did but didn't see anything
Yes. I have a degree in architecture and have done commercial, residential and public spaces. I even designed a chimp village and several other buildings for the LA Wildlife Waystation. I actually designed the home shown in this video. I didn't show the real life finished version because many of the items are still on backorder due to the pandemic.
Thanks for your reply. I also have a degree and background in design, and usually you see both. Good for you. When I was in design school many disciplines where still converting to computer vs hand drawing. I got on the cusp but didn't master some of visual programs. Well I wasn't fast enough. What program do you use predominately? Thanks
Beautiful. I love what you are teaching us. I'm starting to notice more details everywhere. Thanks for a great video.
Thank you. Great to hear.

Very interesting information about the Marie Antionette set. I have never seen that movie, but that is about to change. Thank you.
Very good, thank you. I look forward, very much, to more. You explain very well.

Thank you. Yes, almost everything is on a long backorder. Takes some patience now to finish a room.
I love how you often feature Doris Day, would love to look round her apartment in Pillow Talk. X🌹
It's funny how often I love the set design in movies she's in.

Yay for you. Keep me updated.
Has there been a movie set you didn’t care for? That’d be interesting to know and why! ❤️
