Shaun - please do a wee video telling off these tourists that swamped us this year. They treated our tourist areas so damn disrespectfully by tossing their rubbish about on the roadsides, walking paths and beauty spots. I think next year a warning should be issued that littering will be punished by a swift boot in the baws.
“30 degrees C is not hot” ignores the fact that we are not used to this type of heat in Scotland. In fact, in these temperatures our death rates spike considerably and public warnings are issued.
Absolutely Shaun!.....When I was in Scotland, I kept thinking, what on earth will these people do when it really gets hot? We in the southern U.S. are NOT equipped to handle snow. So the once in a blue moon it does snow, we are literally stuck wherever we're at.....People from the northern States make fun of us because 2" of snow wreaks such havoc.....Well, we DON"T have snow plows or any other kind of snow equipment. Us buying snow plows makes about as much sense as the folks in Scotland buying air conditioners. Why would you for something that may only occur every 10 years?
Stay cool, and remember that at least you’ll get some relief when the sun goes down (unlike us near the Gulf of Mexico when night time temperatures are still in the 80s).
OMG! Heat index in Dallas today was 112 degrees. 87 sounds SOO good. If that’s really hot, what is cold for y’all? How in the world did you tolerate your trip to Florida and Texas!?! I think I’d have to wear a few pair of long johns to be able to try to deal with the temp there.
True. We all get used to our own climate, and then when we travel, we're wearing all the wrong clothing. A friend from Minnesota would come down to Santa Fe in the spring and wear shorts while the rest of us had coats and scarves, still. They get - 51°C there sometimes in the winter (I'd die), so it's all what you're used to, right? I thought I'd feel colder in Scotland, and brought all kinds of sweaters (jumpers), but I felt fine. Surprise! Maybe the humidity makes a difference?

Come to Virginia you can have a week long heat wave with 95+ degree temps with a heat index of 102 when you factor in the humidity then have a cold front come in bringing heavy rain and temps in the low 50's. Seriously we've been known to have all four seasons in the space of a week. It's like somebody said you can't squeeze all the seasons into one week and Virginia stood up and said "Hold my beer".
Hi Shaun!!! I’m a nurse practitioner in the US. You are right, water is so important for us. It will definitely help your skin condition the more hydrated you stay...just a wee bit of info for ya. I’m glad you’re ok from suffering heat stroke. That is very serious. I drink bottled water as well and I make sure to recycle! It’s so important. I love your videos and thank you for them! They are amazing and I’m hoping to get to Scotland next year. My dad was there with the US Navy in Edinburgh in 1966. He loved it! God bless!
My husband and I just got back from Scotland and we're sitting in Texas with a temperature of 104 Fahrenheit or 40 degrees Celsius. We absolutely loved it there and loved everyone that we met. I miss it so.

@Kathleen Henson eww yes, La. Is a booger, too. I spend about 3 weeks out west every year and love that there is no humidity. Still so very hot but at least when I go outside there, I won't break into a sweat just by sitting there. I'm pretty sure the south is the devil's doormat.

You ought to come to Turkey Creek in Pinson, Alabama, US. We're experiecing 90° to 100°F (33° to 38°C). Our air conditioners are struggling to keep up and working out side with 60 to 80% humidity is brutal.
If you divide what you weigh in 1/2, (ounces) that's how much water you should be drinking. Let's say I weigh 140 lb or 63.5 kg,/drink roughly 70 oz. of water per day) I read it in a magazine & it works, I feel much better when I drink my quota. I love you video's & Thanks for sharing. Very interesting and enjoyable, the trip to the Highland Spring facility. If I lived in Scotland, most likely I would be buying their water. It is a beautiful area they are located at. Thanks for taking us there! Greetings from Texas, where we have 100F+ temps pretty much all summer. It's like a blast furnace here....you wouldn't like it at all, and I don't either! The rest of the year is pretty nice here...just wish we could skip past June-September.
Agree we need to add a deposit price on each bottle to encourage people to return them. Years ago they did it when they only had glass bottles in stores.

Grew up in Midwestern US without central air conditioning. Our 1920s home had one window unit in the dining room and one in the master bedroom which were only used as necessary during summer (temperatures anywhere from 70-100° F.) When the air conditioning was off, we moved air using fans and opening the right windows to get cross-breezes, and keeping the drapes closed on the other windows. Keeping the air moving, wearing lightweight clothing, staying hydrated with chilled drinks, and eating frozen treats was enough to keep us cool in the cooler (70-85° F) weeks of summer.

Aw Shaun, the Glen of Alva was a delight to watch the water fall from the dam wall. Small and neat and clean. But the moving part of the video is the green of the shade as you walk through the old trees at Bracklann (sp.?) Falls. It is walking through a green mansion with old Roman column. The new camera is a far cry from when you first started the vlog. I pray we don't lose your skills to the film industry anytime soon.
Great video Shaun! I need to live in Scotland! With Multiple Sclerosis the heat is a killer. So I have grown to hate summer. It's dry heat here, so that's better I've heard. We use swamp coolers to stay cool. I'm lucky to live in a place where we have great water from a private well. Any water bottles I buy, I just reuse with my tap water and place in the fridge. Take them to recycle bin when they're too worn out. I drink 12 bottles or more a day. Have recently bought metal Yeti brand water bottles. Keep cold things cold and hot things hot for 16 hours. Such beautiful scenery! I would love it there! Thanks to you I get to visit once a week! Great photography! Hoping your heatwave is gone soon! I can't imagine doing that without air conditioning. Wow! Sorry about your heat wave! I am always concerned about folks here in the northern US when it gets hot there. So many don’t have air conditioning. It was so hot here yesterday that we spent most of the day in the house with the blinds shut and the desk fans on, and in the evening we went for a cooling swim in Loch Long surrounded by the mountains. A perfect evening.

So many Americans fail to understand how much farther north Scotland is. A person born and raised in Florida or any southern state probably couldn’t handle a winter in the Great Lakes area not to mention Canada which is closer to your latitude
Thanks. They want to try our winters LOL. Then they will know what cold really feels like. A couple of years it got as far as -27C in 1895 and 1982 at Braemar, Aberdeen. 🥶🥶
Just beautiful countryside! I would love to go to the Highlands. The wet area you walked in looks a lot like my home state. I hope you will be able to keep your water. My state of Washington is known as a rainy place, much like Scotland. But it's been getting warmer and drier every year, and even having droughts and wildfires in the rainforest!
I completely understand the need for water, and know how hard it is to replace the delicious tap water with bottled. My parents have a well that taps into the Ogalala Aquifer, so when I go to visit, that's all I drink. So good!

It's about a quarter to 5 local here in Albuquerque New Mexico. About 10 degrees F warmer than usual at 95. Humidity is only 12% though, so it's really nice. So-called swamp coolers work well in this part of the world.

As an Australia with Scottish Heritage I find Scotland & it’s weather so interesting. In Australia our heat waves are like 45° & it’s common summer time temp to be in the 35-40° daily. We are currently in a really bad drought though. And have just started having restrictions on our water usage. & spring isn’t here yet 😬

When we traveled, to Scotland, 22 or so years ago, we drove through the Highlands, and would stop along the road to refill our water bottle from the springs gushing out of the roadside hills. BEST WATER EVER! And coldest, too. Also drank right from Loch Ness, which was delicious too. Not even a hint of Nessie poo. 😉

You are so lucky to have so many clean streams and rivers there. I have been e joying pictures and videos of my favorite dog the Bearded Collie. My beardie was my heart dog. I miss Seumas so much. When I visited in 2000 we had warm weather also temperatures most days 28C to 32C.The poor Scots we were with were really suffering from the heat. Here in most of the US we are used to warmer temperatures in the summer. Have the Salmon recovered from the drought ?
In Georgia, U.S.A, it got down to 71 Fahrenheit/ 22ish Celsius today, and it felt amazing! For the past month it's been around 95 Fahrenheit/ 35 Celsius every day.
Oy--hopefully it cools down for you--I myself am quite adverse to heat/high humidity. So naturally, I live in Iowa, where during the summers it can reach a 45 degree Celsius/113 degree Fahrenheit "heat index", which is what it "feels like", even if the actual temperature is a little lower. Blech. Getting excited for autumn---crisp days, cool nights, low humidity, apple and pumpkin everything...
It's a matter of what you are used to. If we make the mid 60s in summer, we think we are doing well. Anything above that is a bonus or classified as "too hot".
We've actually have had some unusual cool temps. here in the lower Ohio River valley (closer to the Mississippi) last few days, at mid-afternoon it's 83*F (28.3 C) with lower humidity, which is quite nice since we've been in the mid to upper 90's (35 to 37 C) and very humid most of the summer (we haven't yet officially hit 100, 37.7 C, which usually happens during the summer months, unfortunately a very normal summer temp.). Get out and enjoy your warm weather, won't be long before winter raises it's ugly head.
I am not in Scotland and though I plan to go in a couple of years, I have no experience with your area. I grew up deep in the Rockies (Rocky Mountains), right at the NW corner of New Mexico where it borders Colorado. Our water came from Colorado, from the mountains. We had acreage and though we had water about 8 feet and 30something feet, we went about 240 feet for our well water. It was good clean water and though we filtered it, the only other thing we did was soften it. Sometimes, when mom was seeing alkali build up on the pipes. But I went into medicine and moved far away from where I lived. For reasons I don’t remember, I did some digging into city water about 20-30 years ago and was appalled. Now I drink bottled purified water, which is not clean enough but it is purified and comes out of the Appalachian Mountains. I thought I was recycling my bottles but am hearing rumors that the city where I am is tossing out plastic and mostly recycling paper products. So I have contributed a lot of plastic bottles to the local landfill. And where you are, there is high demand for the bottles? I can’t get Highland Spring water here, but I surely would buy only that if I could (and WELL DONE for the steps they take and have taken and want to do even more!!!). It is unfortunate that you guys want for bottles and here they are sneaking them into landfills. Shipping them is another big footprint on the planet but I wish there was some kind of incentive for shipping companies to reserve a corner of the ship for transporting recyclables to a place that would reuse them if they had them. Would I drive an hour or so out of my way to drop my garbage off at a responsible recycling processing center where recyclables are distributed to the places that would use them? I would, absolutely! And borrow my son’s hybrid to do so. Which still uses fuel but will an all electric drive 4 hours with a single charge? Only one of the Tesla models will. It makes me want to come out of retirement to arrange some kind of system that creates the incentives to insure recyclables really are (recyclable and recycled). And convince a few cities in each state to work towards model cities and buy a few electric vehicles that have room to haul ‘stuff’ and would pay a couple of someones to transport recyclables to a responsible recyclables processing center that will then transfer the goods to those who will really reuse them. But I wonder if reading this post is as much of a headache as thinking about the avenues to create a system while typing it out in a legible way to give you a headache reading it. And what do I know about arranging things ? Well, that is from teaching and deciding to make the information available to everyone and not just medical students and my staff and arranging programs and discovering that I have a talent for that kind of thing. But it is past time to stop talking, I just think that there is a tragedy of sorts in the making and thinking it should be turned around while still being fussy about the water I drink. Sorry Shaun. 🤐
The Scottish government has announced that legislation will be past later this year and a bottle return scheme will be introduced nation wide, that will include glass bottles, plastic bottles and metal cans. All retailers will have to take back the empty bottles and cans. There will also be vending machines that will accept the bottles and cans. The customers will receive 20p per bottle or can returned. The aim is to capture 90% of drinking containers for recycling within 3 years.
I've heard that most places in the UK don't have a/c. What the old timers here in the US used to do is get a bucket or big bowl of ice and put the fan behind it so it can blow the cold air on you. It's surprisingly refreshing.
It was 111 degrees yesterday in Odessa Texas. But actually, my opinion, we’ve had months where every day , the temp was above 100, so, I think , this year , so far , has been slightly cooler. We don’t get much rain, cactus is encouraged as yard plant. I have No idea why my ancestors decided to move here. They must have been nuts cause I would have been living north

Carl Kurtz 24-26 isn’t average for us, that’s a pretty intense heatwave. Our summer average would be about 17-20 haha! Above 30 degrees here our death rate increases significantly
I have several insulated steel glasses with sealing lids and steel straws. Use them and wash them. Whataburger even lets me bring in my own steel drinking glass when I drop by there. A few other of the older regular customers do the same thing.

Microclimates is what you climbed down to. I like to garden and even around homes are different where different plants thrive and some never will. Looks like you have different ferns that have to be pretty hardy.
I’m from Hawaii and I was in Inverary and Loch Lomond a month ago and I did get pretty sweaty! Not as much humidity as where I live which was nice. I thoroughly enjoyed Scotland but I’m sad I missed the heather bloom by a month😩 Also I loved the Highland Spring Water! It has such a fresh taste😋
We had a day at 33.66 last week in Virginia, but that is normal or even a bit cool for this time of year for us. Today it was 20, and I feel quite cold.
I relocated to the Phoenix Desert about 6 years the average heat not a heatwave but the average Heat on average around 110 to 115 Imperial what Arizona considered a heatwave is 120+ imperial.
I'm lucky I live in a place with good tap water, but I'm awful for not drinking enough water. I really should pay more attention to that. We had a similar heat wave here, too! I loved it but sometimes it's a bit much

@Kathleen Henson eww yes, La. Is a booger, too. I spend about 3 weeks out west every year and love that there is no humidity. Still so very hot but at least when I go outside there, I won't break into a sweat just by sitting there. I'm pretty sure the south is the devil's doormat.

This summer has been great in Scotland. Whilst Europe suffered 35+ degrees we have had a steady 14 ..bloody glorious!
In my American town, for the five months of summer, the temp starts at 70 F at sunrise and rises up to 90 F or higher by late afternoon. It gets cooler in October.
You ought to come to Turkey Creek in Pinson, Alabama, US. We're experiecing 90° to 100°F (33° to 38°C). Our air conditioners are struggling to keep up and working out side with 60 to 80% humidity is brutal.
If you divide what you weigh in 1/2, (ounces) that's how much water you should be drinking. Let's say I weigh 140 lb or 63.5 kg,/drink roughly 70 oz. of water per day) I read it in a magazine & it works, I feel much better when I drink my quota. I love you video's & Thanks for sharing. Very interesting and enjoyable, the trip to the Highland Spring facility. If I lived in Scotland, most likely I would be buying their water. It is a beautiful area they are located at. Thanks for taking us there! Greetings from Texas, where we have 100F+ temps pretty much all summer. It's like a blast furnace here....you wouldn't like it at all, and I don't either! The rest of the year is pretty nice here...just wish we could skip past June-September.

Glad it wasn’t that hot when I was there earlier this summer. In Speyside I was surprised how brown the water was from all the peat. Looks clear where you’re at.

Grew up in Midwestern US without central air conditioning. Our 1920s home had one window unit in the dining room and one in the master bedroom which were only used as necessary during summer (temperatures anywhere from 70-100° F.) When the air conditioning was off, we moved air using fans and opening the right windows to get cross-breezes, and keeping the drapes closed on the other windows. Keeping the air moving, wearing lightweight clothing, staying hydrated with chilled drinks, and eating frozen treats was enough to keep us cool in the cooler (70-85° F) weeks of summer.

Aw Shaun, the Glen of Alva was a delight to watch the water fall from the dam wall. Small and neat and clean. But the moving part of the video is the green of the shade as you walk through the old trees at Bracklann (sp.?) Falls. It is walking through a green mansion with old Roman column. The new camera is a far cry from when you first started the vlog. I pray we don't lose your skills to the film industry anytime soon.

Great video Shaun! I need to live in Scotland! With Multiple Sclerosis the heat is a killer. So I have grown to hate summer. It's dry heat here, so that's better I've heard. We use swamp coolers to stay cool. I'm lucky to live in a place where we have great water from a private well. Any water bottles I buy, I just reuse with my tap water and place in the fridge. Take them to recycle bin when they're too worn out. I drink 12 bottles or more a day. Have recently bought metal Yeti brand water bottles. Keep cold things cold and hot things hot for 16 hours.

Wow! Sorry about your heat wave! I am always concerned about folks here in the northern US when it gets hot there. So many don’t have air conditioning. It was so hot here yesterday that we spent most of the day in the house with the blinds shut and the desk fans on, and in the evening we went for a cooling swim in Loch Long surrounded by the mountains. A perfect evening.

So many Americans fail to understand how much farther north Scotland is. A person born and raised in Florida or any southern state probably couldn’t handle a winter in the Great Lakes area not to mention Canada which is closer to your latitude
Thanks. They want to try our winters LOL. Then they will know what cold really feels like. A couple of years it got as far as -27C in 1895 and 1982 at Braemar, Aberdeen. 🥶🥶

Just beautiful countryside! I would love to go to the Highlands. The wet area you walked in looks a lot like my home state. I hope you will be able to keep your water. My state of Washington is known as a rainy place, much like Scotland. But it's been getting warmer and drier every year, and even having droughts and wildfires in the rainforest!
I completely understand the need for water, and know how hard it is to replace the delicious tap water with bottled. My parents have a well that taps into the Ogalala Aquifer, so when I go to visit, that's all I drink. So good!

Loved the water during our visit in June. I carry a bottle with a filter when I travel. Didn’t even need it.
I envy you there in Scotland. You’ll be back to comfortable weather soon. The weather here in Virginia is unbearable all summer from May to mid September. Today we’re getting an unusual break and got to turn off the A/C for a welcome change. It won’t last long though. :(

It's about a quarter to 5 local here in Albuquerque New Mexico. About 10 degrees F warmer than usual at 95. Humidity is only 12% though, so it's really nice. So-called swamp coolers work well in this part of the world.

As an Australia with Scottish Heritage I find Scotland & it’s weather so interesting. In Australia our heat waves are like 45° & it’s common summer time temp to be in the 35-40° daily. We are currently in a really bad drought though. And have just started having restrictions on our water usage. & spring isn’t here yet 😬

When we traveled, to Scotland, 22 or so years ago, we drove through the Highlands, and would stop along the road to refill our water bottle from the springs gushing out of the roadside hills. BEST WATER EVER! And coldest, too. Also drank right from Loch Ness, which was delicious too. Not even a hint of Nessie poo. 😉

However with global warming renewables and keeping hydrated are important but I wonder how long until the UK or anywhere else in Europe starts using A/C out of necessity and what environmental impacts that will have in the long run. You are so lucky to have so many clean streams and rivers there. I have been e joying pictures and videos of my favorite dog the Bearded Collie. My beardie was my heart dog. I miss Seumas so much. When I visited in 2000 we had warm weather also temperatures most days 28C to 32C.The poor Scots we were with were really suffering from the heat. Here in most of the US we are used to warmer temperatures in the summer. Have the Salmon recovered from the drought ?

In Georgia, U.S.A, it got down to 71 Fahrenheit/ 22ish Celsius today, and it felt amazing! For the past month it's been around 95 Fahrenheit/ 35 Celsius every day.

Oy--hopefully it cools down for you--I myself am quite adverse to heat/high humidity. So naturally, I live in Iowa, where during the summers it can reach a 45 degree Celsius/113 degree Fahrenheit "heat index", which is what it "feels like", even if the actual temperature is a little lower. Blech. Getting excited for autumn---crisp days, cool nights, low humidity, apple and pumpkin everything...

It's a matter of what you are used to. If we make the mid 60s in summer, we think we are doing well. Anything above that is a bonus or classified as "too hot".

We've actually have had some unusual cool temps. here in the lower Ohio River valley (closer to the Mississippi) last few days, at mid-afternoon it's 83*F (28.3 C) with lower humidity, which is quite nice since we've been in the mid to upper 90's (35 to 37 C) and very humid most of the summer (we haven't yet officially hit 100, 37.7 C, which usually happens during the summer months, unfortunately a very normal summer temp.). Get out and enjoy your warm weather, won't be long before winter raises it's ugly head.
I am not in Scotland and though I plan to go in a couple of years, I have no experience with your area. I grew up deep in the Rockies (Rocky Mountains), right at the NW corner of New Mexico where it borders Colorado. Our water came from Colorado, from the mountains. We had acreage and though we had water about 8 feet and 30something feet, we went about 240 feet for our well water. It was good clean water and though we filtered it, the only other thing we did was soften it. Sometimes, when mom was seeing alkali build up on the pipes. But I went into medicine and moved far away from where I lived. For reasons I don’t remember, I did some digging into city water about 20-30 years ago and was appalled. Now I drink bottled purified water, which is not clean enough but it is purified and comes out of the Appalachian Mountains. I thought I was recycling my bottles but am hearing rumors that the city where I am is tossing out plastic and mostly recycling paper products. So I have contributed a lot of plastic bottles to the local landfill. And where you are, there is high demand for the bottles? I can’t get Highland Spring water here, but I surely would buy only that if I could (and WELL DONE for the steps they take and have taken and want to do even more!!!). It is unfortunate that you guys want for bottles and here they are sneaking them into landfills. Shipping them is another big footprint on the planet but I wish there was some kind of incentive for shipping companies to reserve a corner of the ship for transporting recyclables to a place that would reuse them if they had them. Would I drive an hour or so out of my way to drop my garbage off at a responsible recycling processing center where recyclables are distributed to the places that would use them? I would, absolutely! And borrow my son’s hybrid to do so. Which still uses fuel but will an all electric drive 4 hours with a single charge? Only one of the Tesla models will. It makes me want to come out of retirement to arrange some kind of system that creates the incentives to insure recyclables really are (recyclable and recycled). And convince a few cities in each state to work towards model cities and buy a few electric vehicles that have room to haul ‘stuff’ and would pay a couple of someones to transport recyclables to a responsible recyclables processing center that will then transfer the goods to those who will really reuse them. But I wonder if reading this post is as much of a headache as thinking about the avenues to create a system while typing it out in a legible way to give you a headache reading it. And what do I know about arranging things ? Well, that is from teaching and deciding to make the information available to everyone and not just medical students and my staff and arranging programs and discovering that I have a talent for that kind of thing. But it is past time to stop talking, I just think that there is a tragedy of sorts in the making and thinking it should be turned around while still being fussy about the water I drink. Sorry Shaun. 🤐
The Scottish government has announced that legislation will be past later this year and a bottle return scheme will be introduced nation wide, that will include glass bottles, plastic bottles and metal cans. All retailers will have to take back the empty bottles and cans. There will also be vending machines that will accept the bottles and cans. The customers will receive 20p per bottle or can returned.
The aim is to capture 90% of drinking containers for recycling within 3 years.

I've heard that most places in the UK don't have a/c. What the old timers here in the US used to do is get a bucket or big bowl of ice and put the fan behind it so it can blow the cold air on you. It's surprisingly refreshing.

It was 111 degrees yesterday in Odessa Texas. But actually, my opinion, we’ve had months where every day , the temp was above 100, so, I think , this year , so far , has been slightly cooler. We don’t get much rain, cactus is encouraged as yard plant. I have No idea why my ancestors decided to move here. They must have been nuts cause I would have been living north

Carl Kurtz 24-26 isn’t average for us, that’s a pretty intense heatwave. Our summer average would be about 17-20 haha! Above 30 degrees here our death rate increases significantly

This is the exact reason why I didn't go back home to Scotland to retire. I'm just starting to get comfortable at 31 C
I have several insulated steel glasses with sealing lids and steel straws. Use them and wash them. Whataburger even lets me bring in my own steel drinking glass when I drop by there. A few other of the older regular customers do the same thing.

Microclimates is what you climbed down to. I like to garden and even around homes are different where different plants thrive and some never will. Looks like you have different ferns that have to be pretty hardy.
I’m from Hawaii and I was in Inverary and Loch Lomond a month ago and I did get pretty sweaty! Not as much humidity as where I live which was nice. I thoroughly enjoyed Scotland but I’m sad I missed the heather bloom by a month😩
Also I loved the Highland Spring Water! It has such a fresh taste😋

I relocated to the Phoenix Desert about 6 years the average heat not a heatwave but the average Heat on average around 110 to 115 Imperial what Arizona considered a heatwave is 120+ imperial.

I'm lucky I live in a place with good tap water, but I'm awful for not drinking enough water. I really should pay more attention to that. We had a similar heat wave here, too! I loved it but sometimes it's a bit much
