I think guitar players like Hendrix, Page, Joe, have raised the bar over the years each taking it to the next level. Each of them were what you can call as milestones in the evolution of rock guitar techniques and playing. I have loved Joe's work ever since I first heard him almost 2 decades ago and keep coming back to him after listening to other guitar greats. That speaks a lot I guess.. I think you are probably right about SRV too.. he was awesome :)
So glad I got the Best + Live CD set. Great to hear all members sound presented equally. M.A's Bass and backing vocals were are dubbed down with VH. What a great sound when talent is allowed to outshine Egos.

I love how Joe's axe paint is a smack to EVH's axe. Eddie has to hate this success. Glad it happened personally. I always wished Joe could find the right singer for some of his creativity. Sammy has been my favorite singer since 5150. Just now listening to Montrose. So Glad Michael Anthony made the trip too.....the songs would be so much less without him.

@LaunShivingston I think all of the delay Satch uses, along with the fact that on this stuff he's a bit more loose in his playing and gets a lot more string noise and messy notes and whatnot (which I love, it makes him seem a bit more...human lol) makes it fill up...
that list had Kurt Cobain!.I mean he was a good composer, song writer and all, but I would hardly say great guitarist. It looks like a list of their favorite musicians who held/played a guitar on stage.
