24 years sober and just went through the worst "emotional sobriety relapse" ever! It was in the making for at least 2 years. I didn't drink but I was still very - very ill. All because I DID NOT CHOOSE GOD! Oh, I love God, I talk to Him and seek Him. But I was so out there in FEAR that He was pushed out. Honestly, it was being in a sober blackout! I don't know if you can relate but I am on the mend and looking to re-work my steps on ALL those fears. They were ALL fear based. There is a reason we do a fears list in our 4th step. I am ready to look again... work again... change again.
Thanks for the inspiration Marsha. I’m also looking to do my steps again. Having a great life in sobriety, but find myself drifting away from God a day at a time. 😌
I know exactly what you mean. This is something we don't talk about enough, openly. And it happens to all of us. I struggle with the same place. Your doing great. I promise
This is a great message. When he talks about the fact there’s no point to regretting mistakes he’s talking about how free will is an illusion. You did what you did because in that moment it’s all you could do. It’s very freeing to understand this. I love Sandy. One of the best AA speakers ever.
Sandy really knows how to fire up my spirit and imagination, he has such a great way of putting the program into practical terms, so much to learn from him, We only know a little..
Next month I'll get my year chip. My last relapse the next day I was at a meeting and I did 90 in 90. Some days I went to two meetings. I gave it my all and it paid off!
Eternally grateful to this man and his work ..... If only people knew how much we had to lose to come to the table with god .... And how truly far we had to go ... Thank you god ... Please never under any circumstances think its futile You can recover on all we lost and all we have i know this to be true
I wish I could have met this man. Been in and out of the rooms for a few years now, when times get tough Sandy B gives me a reprieve before anything else does
We learned we are powerless over people places and things. All we can change is what we do. Our reactions and our attitudes towards life and others. I'm sure your Dad is proud of you and is working on himself on the other side. It's quite a journey
I would love to find a meeting or group like this where they apply the steps and principles but it's not alcohol or drug or codependent or whatever focused ... just God focused if that makes sense. Listening to this makes me want to find a group like that. There has to be one out there somewhere.
Spiritual life works, which breeds illusion you don't need it. It's only a theory until you pass some tests. So ask for MORE help. Work the 6th n 7th on loop. Problems Not resolved, removed by perspective shift
This man obviously has a tremendous amount of both sobriety and serenity and surely lives in conscious contact with his Higher Power (G-d). I just with he, and a lot of other speakers for that matter, would not share there philosophy about reality and or the nature of G-d.
He was referencing non AA literature I believe. I think AAs often are intellectually incurious and don't look beyond the horizon of their official literature. Bill W himself is a perfect argument against this sort of attitude, one glance at the titles in his library and you can see that he read widely from a variety of authors and sources. There is a reference in one of the books, I think maybe as bill sees it, that refers to AA as a spiritual kindergarten of sorts. It gives us our orientation and a toolkit but we are meant to search more fully and resolutely for God and to grow in our understanding and love of him
Need a sponsor I need sponsee, how convenient...the fear you can break down by writing it down each fear is stemming from another eventually you'll find all your fears are originated from 1 single fear of death. You have to get to a place where it's 2nd nature to depend on God you don't have to ask him to do songs he's already gonna do this will reduce your praying for certain things but you'll always find comfort in prayer. I need out of my comfort zone to grow my character therefore I simply understand everything is God's will and do the next right thing

All-time great. A disease speaks through thoughts and judgments about things. Yes!
God
Alcoholism is a disease of perception. Or as my first sponsor told me, 'alcoholism is a disease of the thinking'.
The main problem centers in his mind rather than his body.
Pms, physical mental and spiritual.

isnt this like the power of now? living in the present moment. being present?
Exactly so!!! This is all about: we are learning to live our lives in HERE and NOW!!!
Just do alot of listening.
I FOUND THAT I HAD TO LEARN TO LISTEN.
